A gentle sea breeze tousled her flowing auburn hair, causing it to fan out behind her, a brilliant display of colour against the deep blue green of the ocean. Her eyes were closed against the early evening glare – the slowly dying light casting a pale pink backdrop across the sky, wisps of blue purple cloud drifting lazily across the horizon. But for the sound of waves lapping at the shoreline, softly crashing into one another, swaying and bobbing in never ceasing motion, the beach was near enough silent, the few tourists lucky enough to find the secluded cove having long since departed.
It was Kori's favourite time of day – the short gap between day and night, the transition from light to dark, where everything changed and yet everything was still. It had an odd serenity to it, should it be caught just right – the hues and brilliant colours of sunset lighting the world up one last time before sinking and letting the night take it's hold – drawing the eyes of those watching, freezing them in time to gaze the recurrent and natural spectacle as old as civilization itself. She herself had watched the sun go down near every evening she had been on Earth, first with friends, then with lovers, and soon after, alone. It was one of the things that had made her want to stay upon the planet not her own, for there were feelings and memories it evoked that she couldn't recall feeling anywhere else in the universe.
Starfire found watching sunsets with companions, with friends, brought a warm feeling to all those gathered. It created a sense of unity, moulding unbreakable bonds that could only be formed through joint experience. It had been how she'd spent some of her first evenings with her former Titan team mates – those who had been among the first to welcome her to Earth.
With a lover, Kori had found watching sunsets had set her and her partner's hearts aflame. She had found herself feeling closer to the men who'd sat at her side, who'd wrapped their arms around her shoulders, who'd shielded her from the chill left when darkness drew in, keeping her safe with the warmth of their bodies. That sense of togetherness was something she had experienced a few times in her life – and she cherished it, even though those she'd shared it with were no longer beside her.
And alone, Korind'r felt the dying light of the day brought with it an air of reflection; offered her long, whimsical moments; a pause from her hectic daily life filled with faces and people. It gave her time to get lost in the labyrinth of her thoughts, to surrender herself to memories. Images flashed behind her closed eyelids – images of her former family, of her sister, of the lost Tamaran. She saw her first hours on the continent, the face of Dick Grayson – the man she'd once believe she'd loved unconditionally. She saw the Titans, watched as her friends smiled and cried. And when she did – she felt special...blessed...an outcast a world away from home who had luckily stumbled across more joy than most could hope to come across in a lifetime. No matter what had changed, no matter the dark spots that still blanked some of her memories – she could be nothing but grateful for many of the experiences she could still recall.
The sound of two distant voices caught her attention, pulling her from her silent reverie, and she turned her head a little, eyes fluttering open. Her green pupils gazed off along the secluded cove, searching for the source of said noise. Along the sands walked a pair of figures, one taller, the other much smaller, although they were too far from her to make out their features. Even raising a hand to cover her brow, long slender fingers shading her eyes from the sun, the glare blanked much of the figures from view, causing them to look like shadowed mirages – their outlines flickering across the sand.
Tilting her head, she found herself chewing absently at her lower lip, before her features raised with a slight smile. If they continued their course, they would see her before long – and a sudden social vibe was struck within the Tamaranian. She knew what it was like to watch sunsets with friends, with lovers, and alone. Yet she had never experienced one with complete strangers...

“Daddy look, look there is someone over there too. You should go say hi, she’s so pretty, and look she looks like she’s glowing, is she an alien Daddy? If she is she’s a pretty alien go introduce us go on, go on!” the young girl coursed from her place at his side, her hand held in the callused larger one than her own as she rapidly pointed in the direction they were going with her free hand. The young girl was only about five or six in human years still very much a small child but she seemed excited and courageous not hiding behind her father like some children that age did, but standing at his side as though she was afraid of nothing. The child’s blue black hair fell down to her shoulders and her blue eyes matched the man who stood beside her holding her hand, although they looked quite the sight, Roy’s red in some cases wild hair with his baseball cap turned around, he looked every bit the beach bum that people often pegged him for, but their was a vast definition of muscles on his arms and his body was toned as though he did work out quite a bit and there was that watchful blue eyes of his that signified there was far more to this man then meets the eye.
Roy’s hand tightened a little bit more on his daughters hand and he pulled her slightly closer a step as they approached the figure he couldn’t quite see from this distance the sun blocked their view and it was only as they drew closer that the sun’s glare died and he was able to fully view the woman in front of them, she had orange skin and glowing green eyes and their was a fire in her hair, she was gorgeous in a very ethereal sort of way, and he found himself intrigued, he wasn’t afraid of her, captivated yes, but not enough that he’d forgo his daughters safety. She looked familiar as though he’d seen her somewhere, but he was a little stuck on figuring out just where that had happened to be.
The red head slide his eyes up her body as though looking for something imposing, and his other hand tightened on the strap of a bag that hung off his left shoulder. There was definitely something more to the man. “Hi, I hope we aren’t imposing on you, if we are we can leave, just let me know,” he let the words hang there a moment and when she didn’t immediately answer he decided to tell her just why they were here, she didn’t seem threatening, quite the opposite actually. “Lian likes to swim when the crowds are thinner and watch the sunset, she thinks it’s pretty,” he told her his lips pulling at the edges and giving her a roguish smile.
“No I don’t Daddy, you’re the one who thinks the sunsets are pretty!” The young girl countered and jabbed a finger into his leg as she shook off her Father’s hand and ran up to woman without a hint of fear in those blue eyes, although Roy watched the pair closely his eyes watch the green eyed goddess’s movements far more closely than most usually did. “My names Lian are you an alien? If so what are you? You’re so pretty, what’s your name? Can you fly? Do you have magic powers like Superman and Supergirl? Are you a hero, do you help people too?” Lian shot off questions at her without giving her time to answer and only stopped abruptly when her father put a heavy hand on her shoulder.
“You aren’t giving her a chance to answer a single one of your questions Lian, we talked about this remember your manners,” Roy scolded his daughter gently and flashed the lovely lady a charming grin. “She gets carried away sometimes, don’t feel obligated to answer…that might be more than you’re willing to share,” he was giving her an out, if she didn’t want to answer anything that was completely her choice and he knew Lian wouldn’t take it personally. He stood just to the right of the young girl as though ready to interject if anything happened, but he hoped not, he was curious to know just what this lovely ladies name was as well, but Lian was just like her mother sometimes reckless and stubborn, or maybe she got that from him.

The closer they came, the louder the noise that accompanied them, and the Tamaranean was able to pick out a wider range of sounds as they spoke between themselves. Their silhouettes told her they were a duo – two people next to one another – and from the different pitches and tones of their voices, she picked out a distinct divide between male and female, between old and young. One voice was small, lively and squeaky, the unbroken chorus of a n inexperienced, inquisitive and excitable child. The other was more stern, gravelly, cautious – the careful voice of a loving father. It warmed her heart a little, hearing them discuss their surroundings, their conversation endearing due to it's open and honest nature – the teaching only parents can provide their children.
Tilting her head a little, it took only minutes for both to finally be fully visible, at which point they were but a few feet from her. She scanned them over quickly, barely moving at all – her eyes darting while her relaxed, prone body remained still, bronzing and glowing a soft, radiant ochre. Her gaze found the shortest first, coming to rest upon a little girl no older than ten, possessed of chubby cheeks, brilliant sea blue eyes, and long flowing black hair – locks like silken ebony. Despite her young age, it was clear she would grown to be beautiful beyond words – and Kori's lips spread into a little smile.
Her smile only continued to broaden as she flicked her glances toward the male the girl was clinging to; a tall, lithe man – lightly muscled and toned, with pale, marked, scarred skin. Fiery red hair hung unkempt about his shoulders, and his jaw was lined with rough stubble. At first he merely looked dishevelled, but the longer she focused, the more she found herself drawn to something about him – perhaps his eyes, the same sea blue as his daughter, or the way he carried himself. Indeed, it could have been numerous elements of all of the above – but despite looking more than a little untidy – Kori found it somehow suited him – a human stooped in implacability.
Captivated by both for a heartbeat too long, the Tamaranean near completely overlooked the fact they had turned their attentions to her. The attractive male was speaking – offering an explanation as to their presence, and asking if she would feel imposed upon should they stay. Blinking, Kori quickly shook her head, a cascade of auburn locks falling about her face, framing her perfectly angular features. ”Of course you are not imposing upon me. It is a public place.” She continued to smile, hoping to show that their presence wasn't an imposition at all. Deep within her, she felt glad for some company. Since her return to Earth, she had found very few people had time for her – things having changed greatly during her time away. It was not their fault their lives were busier, more full of everyday chores - but she couldn't, at times, help feeling more than a little lonesome.
She listened to the pair argue about whom believed sunsets to be pretty, her head inclining a little as the younger girl suggested that it was indeed her father who liked to watch the sky streak with colour before the light died. Kori couldn't help but look at him again – eyeing him from head to toe. He didn't seem the kind to be fond of sunsets – but then, if her time on Earth had taught Kori anything – it would be to never judge a human by appearances alone. She had done so on a number of occasions, and it often caused her a great deal of trouble. It only added to the air of quiet mystery surrounding him – and the Tamaranean found herself near instantly physically attracted to him, her heart fluttering in her chest upon his offering her a roguish smile.
Before Koriand'r could quite prepare herself for the onslaught that was to follow, the attractive male's daughter rushed forward, reaching her side and demanding near all her attention. A rush of questions spilled from the child's mouth, asking if she was alien, asking her to name herself, asking her of supernatural abilities – and it was all Kori could do to keep up, although she noted being called pretty, and her skin flushed accordingly. She nodded where she could – although found it remarkably hard to fit a word in edgeways – that was until the father stepped in.
The tall, red haired male put a gentle hand on the girls shoulder, pulling her away from the Tamaranean a little, reminding her to slow down – and that pause was all that was needed for Kori to collect her thoughts. Rolling from her back onto her side – she again took up a modelesque lounging pose – her body facing the pair, her head propped up on her palm, her elbow in the sand. Her free arm and hand gently rested about her waist, her fingers splayed on her tummy. “Lian...now that is a beautiful name,” Koriand'r began, as it was how the child had introduced herself, “My name is Koriand'r. Please...Kori for short. It can be...difficult to pronounce.”
She smiled broadly, winking up at the grinning man standing above her, and then extended her free hand toward the girl, long slender fingers reaching for her little chubby digits. “Here...come and sit. Perhaps, if you like the sunset, we can sit and watch it with...” The Tamaranean Princess paused, bit her lower lip, and then leaned forward, whispering loudly – as if she were speaking only to Lian, but making sure any in the immediate vicinity could hear too. “What is your father's name?”
She sat back soon enough, flicking her hair over her shoulder, and looked out toward the sea. “Then perhaps I can also answer some of your questions. You seemed to have a lot.” Glancing back at the girl – she winked again. Sunsets with strangers was already working out more interestingly than she could have imagined.
