They had decided to continue their dig at an earlier time in hopes of beating the unforgiving heat of the sun that scorched the desert. It seemed like a good idea at the time, starting at 4 a.m. when the sun was still down and the desert significantly cooler, but their work was laborious. Even with the cool air kissing the napes of their neck they eroded their own heat that drenched their clothes and dampened their skin.
It was all naught for nothing however, Howard had spent what felt like a lifetime searching for the item at hand. While he was ridiculed and laughed by other formidable and well known archaeologists, he stood by his hypothesis. The Eye of TeScarta existed and the legend was it acted as key to another world. It seemed like the stuff of myth, but Howard knew that in this day and age a lot of “benefit of the doubt” had to be practiced before coming to conclusions
“Professor Thatcher!” An excavator called out his name and he immediately turned around. Running over to the man, he stopped mid-way to catch his breath and behold the sight before him. The ground that they had been endless digging into finally looked back at him with the entrance to an unseen stone tomb. He contained himself, wiping the sweat from his brow with his sleeve and moved forward very carefully, not wanting to disturb the surrounding sand and cause the entire thing to cave inward.
“Have you confirmed the safety of the entrance?” Howard asked the lead excavator looking around at the structures around the hole in the ground that acted as barriers that prevented the ground from falling back in. “It’ll hold up, we just don’t know. If something goes wrong on the inside there’s a chance that the entire structure will collapse on its own. Although I’m sure you knew that already.” The excavator said, catching the earnest look on Howard’s face. “Get the team together, we’re going in.” Howard said his jaw taunt as he turned back to the camp and began to jog toward it. Discoveries were going to be made today. [/style]

[style= font-family: verdana; text-align: justify; padding: 5px; width: 440px; font-family: verdana; font-size: 12px] The ruins were damp and rather spacious much to Howard’s surprise. Utilizing flash lights and glow sticks they carefully studied every corner of the space. It looked as if the entire structure was this one room that was half the size of a basketball court. Brushing a stone table carefully, Howard looked down at the ancient writing, totally unfamiliar with the language that looked back at him. His translators were beckoned but even these world class Yale and Harvard ancient language specialists were puzzled.
Had they reached a dead end? Had he come this far to only have to go make and do more research. Clenching his fist he moved the flashlight from the stone table to the ceiling and narrowed his eyes. What was he looking at? Was that the shape of an eye? Calling his team to hold up their lights to the ceiling they all spoke quickly and hastily as they looked at the orbital and detailed eye on the ceiling. Looking back down to the floor, Howard tried to see if there was anything on the ground that indicated the eye was looking at. He realized it as he looked at the stone table he parted from earlier. As he flashed his light over it he came to acknowledge that the stone table was more than just a table.
Rushing forward, Howard felt the edges and groves on the object, it wasn’t a table, it was a box. A box carved out of clay. Grabbing a crow bar he quickly began to pry at it, attempting to open it then finally there was a hiss as fresh oxygen entered the box and the lid popped open slightly.
Utilizing four other men they quickly ¬but carefully worked to lift the lid from the box and placed it gently on some woolen sheets on the ground. Staring into the box, they were at first disheartened to see nothing, but with a flash of light, they pulled back a black sheet to reveal… the eye of TeScarta. Everyone in the room seemed to hold their breath as they looked down at the artifact, wondering if it were real. Howard motioned for the team to step back and very carefully using gloves he lifted the orbital shaped object from the box and stared into it. Its iris gleamed, made of sapphire and Howard felt himself become entranced by it. Slowly he turned the eye around, pressing each precious gem that jutted from its surface. As he did so, the eye seemed to being to radiate light from its surface and then suddenly it began to rise from his grasp.
Stepping back, everyone watched as it lifted higher and higher into the air hovering over everyone’s heads then suddenly – it opened up.
Gasping they all whispered and chattered as the room shined with light and the orb opened horizontally. At first there was nothing, but then suddenly there was a flash of bright light and a purple gas erupted and spread around the room. At the center where the orb was a portal began to open and a shrill shriek filled the room. A clawed hand pulled the portal open and strange beings came forth. They howled and moaned, and those who were transfixed in awe of the creatures were quickly grabbed and absorbed into their bodies. It was then reality hit those in the room.
“RUN.” Someone screamed and chaos ensued.

LOCATION: New York City, Times Square
TIME: August 21 – 12:19 p.m.
[style= font-family: verdana; text-align: justify; padding: 5px; width: 440px; font-family: verdana; font-size: 12px] TThe bustling city was now at its peak hour, the sun was long gone and the night was well alive. Flashing lights and blasting from the many buildings had time square a bright and starless block. Those crowds on the streets pushed and pulled moved like the waves during a storm. Cameras flashed, cellphones rang, and the city was unprepared for what would happen next. During the normal commotion a pair of NYPD cops stopped by a traffic light and absorbed the sights and sounds. The law enforcers chatted calmly to each other, but it was apparent neither of them was much into the conversation. Their attention was broken out on keeping the area safe and under control. Though they attempted to do their job they were sadly unprepared for the storm brewing.
Then it happened, a beam of light steamed across the sky. So bright it could be seen even in the sky of a city like New York. As it passed the entire of Manhattan could see it if they looked up. The light flashed into the windows of apartments and lit up empty skyscrapers. Then it stopped, a orb hovered above the center of time square. Citizens stared, gasped…
“ITS FALLING! IT’S A BOMB! GET OUT!” Someone screamed, mass panic exploded as the orb fell to earth. As it fell it left a stream of purple steam, instead of colliding with the ground it stopped and opened another portal. Hands pulled the portal apart, giant beast exited and screeched. In the chaos it was almost inaudible, people flew, police officers came forward.
“WHAT THE f&@k IS THIS?!” One of the officers cried, pulling out his pistol and aiming it at the first creature he saw. It was meaningless, the beast jumped upon him and in a roar of anguish its claw swiped through him. His colleague watched his body distorted and be absorbed in the strange black mass that was this creatures body, he saw the face before it vanished into the body. His eyes were full of anguish. The creature turned its giant lower tusks trembling as it opened its mouth, the overlapping teeth coming apart. The hairy creature released a roar and while its eyes were nonexistent it still was capable of generating a fearful aura.
It landed on its front limbs again, approaching the officers with ape like movements. It raised its hand, preparing to grab another officer when suddenly a beam of golden light cascaded from above the blasted the eyeless beast back.
’Does not look like something that escaped from the Zoo.’ A young woman rode through the skies, her face masked by simple cloth. She wore her goggles over her eyes, her vision tinted in green. She pulled another capsule from her belt, chanting a spell and placing it into her wristlet firearm. ’That neutralizing spell should have knocked him out, but it doesn’t look like it was strong enough’ She loaded her weapon and aimed for the head of the beast and fire.
There was a fizzle and a pop and the beast roared as it seemed to vaporize in a flash of light. ’Not the exact effect I was going for… did I mess that one up?’ The blonde woman landed on the ground turning about to see four other creatures approach her, moaning and groaning as they heaved their bodies forward. ’Right… what was that spell again?’[/style]
