Tragedy has always followed him around, but he has always worked hard to move past these events, to refuse to let them define him. In fact, Kyle loves being a hero, and is finally more confident about himself and his role as a Green Lantern that he longer feels like he doesn't belong. Unlike some, even among the Earth-Lanterns, Kyle has never really been arrogant, or domineering. Kyle likes meeting new people and can make friends with most pretty quickly. Some, like Wally, he's had a harder time with considering their love for Hal Jordan, but Kyle has won them over in the end. As an artist, Kyle is rarely satisfied, and he's that way as a Green Lantern, as well. Rarely does he truly feel like he did the best he could, always considering a different way, a different construct. But it is that dissatisfaction that allows him to continually grow and get better, not only as a Lantern, but as a person. Kyle has a strong bond with all Earth-Lanterns, and many other Lanterns. He views both Hal and Guy as brothers, and John Stewart is among one of his oldest and best friends, and Kyle is one of the few people that John trusts completely. Kyle also has a close friendship with Kilowog, and with the Guardian Ganthet, who gave him his ring. Kyle even had a short relationship with Green Lantern Soranik Natu, but recent events have caused the two to split up. Kyle is not afraid to feel other emotions aside from will, and has stood his ground, even against his superior officers in the GL Corps in the past. He has hope that the Corps can be something better than it is, even now. He is not easily offended, but can be pushed, at times. It takes a lot for him to lose his temper, but when he does, it can be explosive. Kyle is also quite courageous, ready to fight and protect anyone at a moments notice, and without hesitation. [/style][STYLE=color: #191919; font-size: 10px; margin-top: 10px; margin-left: 10px;]DOCUMENTED HISTORY[/style][STYLE= margin: 0px 10px 0px 10px; border: 2px solid #191919; padding: 2px; font-family: verdana; height: 125px; overflow: auto; font-size: 11px; color: #000000; text-align: justify; background-color: #ffffff; opacity: 0.8]Kyle had been in a bar with some friends, but he decided it was time to go home. As he exited out the back of the bar in an alley, Kyle noticed a green light in the sky, again. This time, it headed straight for him, and became the Guardian Ganthet. Tossing Kyle the ring in his hand, Ganthet uttered the words 'You will have to do.', and departed again. After putting on the ring, Kyle quickly realized his future had changed, and he thought it was for the better. His first stop was to former girlfriend Alex DeWitt's apartment, and with her help, he got a basic handle on the power ring. His first opponent was Mongul, and with Superman's help, he defeated the monster, and earned Kal-El's respect. However, before he had even gotten comfortable with it, a villain by the name of Major Force came looking for him. Working for the military, who wanted the ring for themselves, Major Force went to Alex's apartment, hoping to find Kyle. Angered that he wasn't there, Major Force brutally attacked and killed Alex, leaving a taunting scene for Kyle to find when he returned. Horrified by the gruesome sight of his girlfriend folded into a refrigerator, Kyle didn't have time to grieve before being attacked by Major Force. During the fight, Kyle ran out of energy, and nearly met the same fate as Alex. However, a mysterious green lock the villain had with him transformed into a Lantern, and when Kyle touched his ring to it, he immediately recharged. Re-energized, Kyle defeated Major Force. However, the villain managed to escape justice due to his ties to the government. Kyle returned home, and was confronted by Alan Scott, who informed him of the Green Lantern Corps, Hal Jordan, and the full extent of the world Kyle had just joined. Unsure of how to process this, Kyle faced a world feeling more alone than ever. It wasn't long before Hal Jordan returned, trying to rewrite the universe as he saw fit. Kyle fought alongside the heroes of today to prevent the madman from accomplishing his goals. During the fight, Hal and Kyle were transported to Oa, and in a desperate attempt to stop Hal, Kyle was forced to destroy Oa. Lost in space, Kyle came across adventures before finally making it home to Earth. Back on Earth, Kyle met even more heroes, including Wally West, with whom he bickered with constantly at first. Wally had great love and respect for Hal Jordan, and didn't like the fact that Kyle was 'replacing' him. However, the two eventually worked through this, and have even become best friends. Not surprisingly, Kyle has struck up friendships with more than a couple 'younger heroes', including Superboy and Connor Hawke, who was also defining himself as a replacement. He even struck up a relationship with Donna Troy, though the affair never really went too far before she joined the Darkstars. Kyle begins to wonder what it means to be a hero, and seeks out who he considers the best, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Captain Marvel. Shortly after, Kyle is drawn back into space to fight alongside Donna Troy and John Stewart, facing the son of Darkseid. When a Sun-Eater targeted Earth's sun, most heroes rushed to try to find a way to stop it. Kyle, however, went looking for Hal Jordan. It took time, but finally he was able to convince the man to put his villainous past behind him. Hal reignited the sun, at the cost of his own life. Kyle is soon inducted into the JLA. From here, he faced many foes, including Fatality, and even struck up a new relationship with Jade, the daughter of Alan Scott. Kyle even faced his deadliest opponent, the darkness in his mind. A ring construct brought to life, Oblivion took out most of the Justice League before Kyle fully realized what he had created. Facing this, and purging himself of this darkness, Kyle was able to trap the creature in the darkest recesses of his mind. Shortly afterwards, Kyle is able to absorb the Central Power Battery energy left by Hal Jordan, and becomes Ion. As Ion, Kyle's powers expanded exponentially. He was able to fertilize areas in Africa, could rewrite time if he so chose. He was, for all intents and purposes, a cosmic being. He heals John Stewart, and revitalizes the Starheart energies in Jade, before he decides that this power is greater than himself. Leaving Earth, Kyle travels back to a reconstructed Oa, and sacrifices the Ion energy within himself to recharge the Central Power Battery, and recreate the Guardians of the Universe. Charging Ganthet with raising the now infant Guardians, Kyle returns to Earth, only to learn that one of his friends had been brutally attacked, simply for being who he was. Terry, who had worked as Kyle's assistant for a time, was almost killed simply for being gay. This shattered Kyle, who blamed himself for not being there to protect the boy. Going into self-imposed exile, Kyle left John Stewart a power ring to take care of Earth. Given a mission to retrieve Hal Jordan's body, Kyle sets in motion the rebirth of Hal Jordan. It is revealed that Parallax was actually the sentient embodiment of fear, and had been placed in the center of the Central Power Battery to prevent its spread. It is also revealed that Hal had been infected by this creature, which drove him to his madness. After Hal is revived, Kyle is attacked by Sinestro, who most thought was long dead. Joined by Hal, Sinestro was quickly defeated by the two heroes, who turned their attention to the now Parallax-infested Ganthet. Joined by John Stewart, Kilowog, and Guy Gardener, the five Lanterns were able to defeat Parallax, signaling the return of the Green Lantern Corps. Kyle obtains the name Torchbearer, a term of respect for the bearer of the last Green Lantern ring, and stopped working solely on Earth. His first assignment was to help stop a spreading war between Rann and Thanagar. Joined by many Earth heroes, including Jade, and Kilowog, Kyle fought the Infinite Crisis in the depths of space. When Jade died, Kyle again became Ion. Hal Jordan fights an Ion-impersonator, a villain of Kyle's named Nero. The rest of the Corp is forbidden from helping Kyle, though this did not include the Lanterns not currently on Oa at the time. Kyle and Hal fight and Kyle quickly defeats Nero, and confronts the Guardians. They inform him that this was a test to see if he was worthy of the power of Ion, and now that he has passed, he truly is the embodiment of the Corps. Upon learning that his mother is deathly ill, Kyle rushes back to Earth, and barely makes it in time. However, when she dies, Kyle tries to use his power to bring her back to life. He succeeds, but she begs him to let her pass, stating that a living past death was not truly living. Kyle lets her go, distraught over losing another important person in his life. Unknown to any, Sinestro had been working behind the scenes on a grand scheme to start his own Corps. Kyle was targeted, and transported to the anti-matter universe. Here, he learns that his mother was killed by a sentient virus. With Ion ripped from his body, learning in the process that Ion was the embodiment of Will, Kyle is taken by Parallax. As the monster, Kyle's body is forced to fight many of his friends, even killing Lost Lantern Jack T. Chance. Kyle is only freed with the help of his friends but he learns that, since being a host for Parallax, he can never host Ion again. Instead, he is given his power ring back, and he fights alongside Hal to drive the Sinestro Corps from Coast City. Following the war, Kyle is elevated to the rank of Honor Guard, the second highest rank in the Lantern Corps. Kyle also helps train the new Ion, Sodam Yat, and starts up a relationship with Soranik Natu, though the relationship has become strained of late, after learning she is Sinestro's daughter. During the Blackest Night, Kyle dies saving the Central Power Battery, but is resurrected through Soranik's love, and he fights to reclaim Earth from Nekron. Now, Kyle remains a Green Lantern Honor Guard, ready to defend his sector, and his Corps from whatever threat comes next. KNOWN ABILITIES: Kyle is a artist, which makes his imagination endless. Kyle has also received hand-to-hand training from some of the best, including Batman and Donna Troy, making him very capable at dealing out punishment without a ring, as well as with it. Kyle is also a budding leader, though he is not nearly as comfortable in this role as others, just yet. STRENGTH LEVEL: Without the ring, Kyle is as strong as a normal human who works out on a regular basis. With the ring, his strength is beyond superhuman, making him capable of lifting 100+ tons. WEAKNESSES: While powerful, Green Lanterns are not invincible. Great strength can shatter their constructs, as can distraction. Mental incapacitation, such as drug use, interferes with the rings use, and a Red Power Ring can drain a Green Lanterns ring. Rookies of the Corps are still affected the Yellow Impurity, which prevents the ring from affecting anything yellow. And all rings, including Kyle's, needs a recharge from time to time. While Kyle's ring never completely loses its charge, it needs to be charged to be fully effective. Without the ring, Kyle is still human, and can be killed or injured by any means possible. Sinestro had been a Green Lantern, in the past. In fact, he had once widely been considered the greatest of all Green Lanterns, before Hal Jordan exposed him for who he truly was. Now, at the end of the Sinestro Corps War, Kyle was facing down this monster, without a working power ring, and with only Hal as his backup. Needless to say, he was hesitant about their odds. It wasn't fear he felt, but he was pragmatic. Sinestro still had a Corps backing him up, and his Manhunters. As he and Hal raced across the rooftops, he saw Hal scoop up a Manhunter head as the machines suddenly deactivated. Huh, someone had taken out Cyborg Superman, it seemed. Hal used the head to drain Sinestro's ring of its energy, as well. With the three of them now on equal playing field, Kyle smiled slightly. "Well, come on the. The both of you." Kyle heeded Sinestro's taunt, tackling the madman off the rooftop and into a construction site across the street. As they crashed through a window and rolled on the ground, Kyle quickly leapt to his feet. ""I told you before, Sinestro. We are not afraid of you." Ducking under a punch, Kyle lashed out with his booted left foot, sweeping Sinestro to the ground. As he dove to pin the man, he felt a sharp pain in his left ear as Sinestro swung his elbow around. Dazed, Kyle struggled to his feet, shaking his head to clear the cobwebs that had suddenly appeared. "Yes, but you are afraid of so many other things, alley rat. Like what I did to your mother." At the mention of his mother, Kyle felt a sudden pang of grief and guilt. He had thought, for a time, that she had died of natural causes. However, Sinestro, being the monster he was, had exposedthe truth. Her death had been ordered by Sinestro to cause him pain, and the madma had used a sentient virus to accomplish this. Distracted, Kyle didn't see the two-by-four piece of wood swinging towards his chest, but he sure felt it as his ribs cracked and he tumbled towards the edge of the half-built floor. Groaning in pain, Kyle could only watch as Hal took the fight to Sinestro. After a brief second, Kyle struggled again to his feet. He couldn't let Hal fight alone. Sinestro would pay, and Kyle was going to make sure of it.[/style][STYLE=color: #191919; font-size: 12px; margin-top: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; text-align: center; font-family: courier new]subject examined by Doctor Cyber[/style] | [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=valign,top][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=style, width: 40px;][STYLE=background-color: #f1e3b4; font-family: times new roman; font-size:30px; color: #404040; min-height: 150px; padding: 5px; text-align: center; moz-border-radius: 0px 10px 10px 0px; -o-border-radius: 0px 10px 10px 0px; border-radius: 0px 10px 10px 0px; -webkit-border-radius: 0px 10px 10px 0px;]G R E E N L A N T E R N - K Y L E R A Y N E R[/style] |
