History
Linda Danvers began her life in a less than heroic fashion. Lured into a world of darkness by her boyfriend Buzz, Linda was involved in many illicit and illegal activities. Little did she know that she was intended to be a sacrifice for a demonic cult Buzz worked for. Buzz slashed her with a dagger, to use her blood to release a demon into the world. But Matrix, the protoplasmic Supergirl, intervened. She used her shape-shifting powers to try to plug the gaping wounds on Linda, but instead became fused with Linda. Linda and Matrix became a new Supergirl. Armed with superhuman strength, speed, flight, invulnerablity, and telekinesis, and the power to change from ordinary brunette Linda Danvers into tall, blonde (and self admitted bustier) Supergirl, Linda began to fight crime and demonic activity, and redeem her darkened soul. Initially, the Matrix was the dominant personality, with Linda being all but submerged.
Becoming merged with Linda had some unexpected side effects for Matrix. She lost her ability to turn invisible, or to change her shape into any other form but between Linda and Matrix. For the first time, she began to feel truly human, a point that was made when Gorilla Grodd attempted to take over Leesburg during the Final Night. She settled into Leesburg to be its defender, battling initially against Chemo and an enraged Barrage.
Matrix grappled with her dual identity, especially given the past of Linda, and the jumbled memories that came with their joining. She was harassed by Buzz, who was under orders to "bring her to the dark side" so to speak by having her kill someone. Buzz hinted at her angelic nature, and hinted that he himself was a demon, an agent of chaos. Supergirl refused to kill the one Buzz had her fight,Tempus Fugit, however, even after Tempus had apparently killed the Danvers. Buzz had lost heart in getting her to fall, however, and even offered her the choice. Her failure to kill Tempus resulted in Buzz being "reclaimed" by his demonic oversears. About this time, Supergirl also met a young man named Dick Malverne and the two instantly became attracted to one another. Dick had been used by Buzz, but afterwards he had no memory of the event.
Supergirl next battled the likes of the Silver Banshee, who proved to her that she truly was human now, and a demonic incubus. She revealed what she had become to the Kents, who took the new Supergirl in stride.
During the Genesis storyline, Supergirl revealed herself as both Matrix and Linda to Linda's parents. At first, they were not accepting, thinking that their daughter was gone forever and Matrix was just pretending to be her. Linda's mother took it especially hard, losing her faith that had been such an important part of her life.
Supergirl had to join with Power Girl to fight a resurrected band of the Extremists being led by Twilight. After fighting the Extremists, Supergirl fought against Despero where she manifested the new abilities of flame wings and flame vision. Her father came to accept her--but her mother fell off the wagon, losing her faith and turning to alcohol. Sylvia was almost killed during the battle with Despero, and Fred contemplated leaving her over her drinking problem.
Supergirl began to question what it was she was turning into. After talking with a young boy named Wally (who claimed to be God Himself), she learned that she was the Earth Born Angel of Fire, one of three Earth angels created when two beings are merged together at the point of death when one is "beyond all hope", in this case being Linda. This was the explanation for her wings of flame, and flame vision. She also discovered that she could teleport in a S-shaped burst of flame. At this point she encountered a being named Comet, whom she instantly fell for.
Supergirl nearly came to blows with Steel during student protests at a local university. A controversial speaker who had some racist comments to give was opposed by Steel and some of the students, but Supergirl and Cutter thought he had the right to speak, even if what he had to say was unpopular. She then went on to help Resurrection Man.
After another talk with Wally the God-boy, Supergirl learned the secret identity of Comet. She asked Wally to help her mother get her faith back, which Wally agreed to do but warned her that he would not be able to help her against the Carnivore when he comes for Linda. Linda divulged to Comet that he/she was really the Earth Born Angel of Love and Linda's mother did indeed get her faith back after a visit from Wally himself.
The Female Furies arrived in Leesburg looking for Twilight. They quickly overcame her and dragged her back to Apokolips. Supergirl, using her "shunting" ability, followed them there and managed to rescue Twilight, though she was unrepentant and ran off as soon as they were back on Earth.
Matrix merged with Supergirl, some of her protoplasmic form was lost. Slowly, the residue of protoplasm managed to rebuild itself, becoming a twisted doppleganger of Supergirl. After murdering a few people in the city, the doppleganger confronted Supergirl herself, feeding her fear and paranoia. With a little help from Superman, the creature was defeated. It was then that Superman learned of the now dual life of Matrix/Linda. She had been hesistant to reveal her situation of adoptive "brother" Superman (fearing his reaction to her co-opting a human life), but he accepted her.
As Linda, she began to have some success as a sculptor. A woman named Elizabeth Penske agreed to exhibit some of her work at a museum in Paris. After pausing for a fight with a demon named Murmur, who was later revealed to be a servant of the Carnivore, Linda and her friends headed off to Paris. The art show was a success, despite being attacked by Parasite. Her affect on him would alter his powers, causing him to hear the voices of all future victims.
Upon returning from Paris, Supergirl was involved with a brief adventure with Young Justice. Unbeknownst to her at the time, Comet was captured at this point by the third Earth Born Angel, the Angel of Light, also known as Blithe. Blithe would use her own powers to psychically torture and brainwash Comet in order to eventually use her against Supergirl.
Shortly thereafter, the crisis known as Day of Judgment would see demons walking the Earth. Supergirl was paired up with Zauriel, which allowed her to ask a real angel some questions about herself. Zauriel explained that the Presence created the angels from his own tears after weaping over creation...but the Earth Born were drawn from shechina (the female aspect of God) that was in the earth itself. In other words, Zauriel and his fellow angels were creations of the Presence, but the Earth Born were part of Him. Unfortunately, Zauriel also revealed that no human can contain the power of an earth born forever, for the incredible power begins to corrupt them. As proof of this happening already, Supergirl's flame wings began to change form angelic "feathery" looking to more demonic, bat-like wings.
Supergirl began to investigate the repurcussions of her angelic nature. During the investigation, she experienced in part the life of one of the former hosts for the Angel of Fire, a young black woman from the colonial American era named Ember. The two actually got to meet and Ember helped Supergirl fight off a ghost from the past called Satan Girl.
Supergirl was recruited to try and save Superman's life when he was dying of a kryptonite based poison. Along with Steel and Superboy (Kon-El), she was shrunk by the Atom and entered into Superman's body.[18] Supergirl leaves the body before the others, finding Deathstroke has attacked the lab, trying to murder La Encantadora (she was the one who poisoned Superman) and in the process he stabbed Lois Lane in the chest. Supergirl used her powers in concert with La Encantadora's to save Lois's life, knowing that Superman needed something to come back to. While this happened on the outside, Steel and Superboy were successful on the inside and Superman was healed. She later drops by south of Metropolis to help Superman save some people along the coast as a hurricane comes bearing down.
Supergirl's life began to get all the more complicated at this point. In addition to Cutter running "Supergirl Enterprises", intended to install good publicity (with limited success) Supergirl learned that an evangelical preacher had begun a new church with Supergirl as its lead centerpiece. Her relationship with Dick began to get strained over her dual life. She managed to compensate, however, but just before the two could consummate their relationship, Supergirl discovered a terrible secret--Dick had been possessed by Buzz all along! Buzz revealed that when he had been taken at the beginning of the series, he had managed to break off a small part of his essense and put it in Dick. He threatened to do great harm to Dick unless Supergirl could retrieve the remainder of his body and essesne from an icy meteor hurtling through the solar system, one that was used as a prison for all manner of demons. Supergirl, having no choice, went to the meteor and battled a creature called the Unholy, blinding him during the battle. She managed to recover Buzz and take him back to Earth, where the rest of his essense was reunited with him. Unfortunately, without Buzz's spirit in him any longer, Dick had his cancer come back with a vengeance.
Supergirl attempted to deter some of the attention she was gaining because of her "church," but a mob gathered to worship her. The mob was deterred by the presence of a being called Judah, who declared himself to be a true servant of God and that Supergirl was a fraud. Judah turned out to be an agent of Lex Luthor who was working alongside the Carnivore in his guise as Carl Carnivean. Strangely enough, in his human form, the Carnivore resembled an adult version of Wally. After Supergirl was knocked out, she was contacted by Buzz, who told her more about the Carnivore. He showed her the Carnivore's city, which he said was a haven for demons who left Heaven voluntarily (as opposed to beign cast down and ending up in Hell). Buzz also revealed where the Carnivore was holding Comet. She shunted there and managed to sucker punch Blithe. Unfortunately, Comet had been brainwashed completely and attacked Supergirl. Not only had the Carnivore corrupted her, but he had managed to fully awaken her angelic powers. An intense battle ensued, one during which Blithe joined up with Comet. Supergirl managed to hold her own until the Carnivore pulled Comet out of the fray.
Unfortunately, the Carnivore could sense her coming and cast her into a state of limbo. There he created "shadows" of every villain she had battled in the series so far and an all out brawl ensued. Supergirl managed to hold her own until God Himself intervened to rescue her, thanks to the prayers of Linda's mother (who was prompted to do so by none other than Buzz). [23]
Nothing but grief would follow thereafter. Linda found Dick Malverne dead in his apartment. He had foregone proper treatment in favor of appealing to the Church of Supergirl. Enraged, Supergirl attacked the church. The sham preacher was so terrified that suffered a heart attack as Supergirl was leaving. Lex Luthor turned up, alerting Supergirl to his deal with the Carnivore--and that he was breaking it. He also told Supergirl that the reverand had died. Overwhelmed with grief over Dick's death and now blaming herself for the reverand's, she surreneded to the Carnivore without a fight. The Carnviore came to Blithe, who had been paralyzed in her battle with Supergirl, and revealed that he had no intention of healing her. He also revealed to Comet that he was the first vampire. Now in control of all three Earth Born Angels, the Carnivore blackmailed the Presence into turning over the keys of heaven to him--if God did not, then the Carnivore would destroy the angels, and with them the Female aspect of God. The Presence did indeed surrender the godhead to Carnivore, causing a shift in perceptions across the world--what was "good" before, now was regarded with contempt. The three angels all managed to make peace and get over their despair with a little help: Blithe with a visit from Buzz, Comet with a trip to her family, and Supergirl from an angelic figure, simply called "Kara".
Supergirl broke out of her imprisonment. Blithe, bonding with what was left of the Matrix residue, healed herself. Then she, Comet, and Supergirl combined forces to assault the Carnivore at his home. The battle destroyed most of the city, but in the end the Carnivore was defeated and his newfound status lost. Unfortunately, the Earth Born Angel was ripped from Linda, taking the Matrix with her and leaving her just Linda Danvers.
Linda decided that she had to find out what happened to Matrix. One last tip from Wally told her to follow the Chaos Stream and that it would lead her in the right direction. She would need help, however, and for that she had to join with Buzz--who had been stripped of all his demonic nature and power and was a mere human again. Buzz begrudgingly agreed to help (though in secret he was falling in love with Linda). Linda retained a portion of the abilities she had when fused with Matrix (she had half of her super-strength and most of her invulnerabilty, and could no longer fly, but could leap 1/8th of a mile), and using some items from a costume shop, created a white, blue, and red Supergirl costume, and continued her role as Supergirl, while searching for Matrix. Her first stop was Metropolis where she battled Prankster and Riot. While in Metropolis, she met up with Superman and gave him the story, asking him to explain to the rest of the superhero community that she really was the one and only Supergirl.
While on the trail, Buzz was captured in New Orleans by the family of one of his victims--sixty years earlier, Buzz had tricked a girl into running out on her true love and sleeping with him. Unbeknownst to Buzz at the time, he impregnated the woman, who gave birth to a horrific demonic monster named Dominique. The family kept the "daughter" for all those years, always on the lookout for Buzz. Dominique attacked her father, and even though Supergirl drove her off, Buzz was poisoned. Luckily, a visit with Dr. Fate healed him and they continued on their way. [27]
Supergirl's quest was put on hiatus during the Our Worlds at War! crossover. She helped defend Leesburg against one of Imperiex's probes. She left Buzz to be thrown in jail during the crisis after he was accused of assaulting a young girl. Buzz protested his innocence, but she did not believe him.
Supergirl tracked Buzz to Gotham City and found Buzz working with Two-Face. Together, the two of them created a Bizarro Supergirl. With some help from Batgirl, Bizarro Supergirl was defeated. Buzz repented, admitting that he had been crushed by what he saw as her betrayal, but that he wanted to go forward.
Linda's quest continued to take her across the country. [30] During a stop in Las Vegas, she encountered the remnants of the cult that Buzz had led back in Leesburg. The cultists were ecstatic to see Buzz back, but he wanted nothing to do with them. Unfortunately, they used a spell to bond The Demon, Etrigan, to Buzz. Supergirl managed to restore the Demon to Jason Blood and in the process learned that a villain known as the Demon Mother was involved with the missing Matrix.[31]
The Demon Mother was revealed to be none other than Lilith, the mother of the Carnivore and one of the rulers of Hell. She was forcing the Fae Queen Mab and Twilight to help her. Twilight approached Buzz with a deal to betray Linda in exchange for Matrix. Meanwhile, Bizarro Supergirl of all people managed to locate Matrix. Supergirl joined up with Mary Marvel after a brief altercation against her (and CM3) that arose through Lilith's machinations. [32]
Supergirl, Buzz, and Mary Marvel continued to follow the Chaos Stream through the southwest. They were attacked by the demon Hurmizah, one of Lilith's allies and another co-ruler of Hell. The chaos stream began to affect time as well as space as the trio came closer to their goal: the long lost Garden of Eden.[33]
Lilith had taken control of the Garden, transforming the angelic guardian Metatron into stone. Matrix (and her Earth Born essense) were trapped in a kind of stasis. Lilith planned on causing the Chaos Stream to explode forth in a surge of energy strong enough to crack open the lowest pit of Perdition and free her son. Disguising the Bizarro Supergirl, Lilith commanded the creature to attack Linda. Linda, her mind nearly torn apart by the stream of emotions that were infecting it, fought a useless battle against her double, ignoring Mary's cries for help until it was too late--she was stabbed in the chest by Hurmizah and left for dead. The Chaos stream exploded forth in all the places Linda had recently visited, causing chaos and terror everywhere. The effect was enough to release the Carnivore from Perdition into the Garden. A badly injured Supergirl was joined by Bizzaro Supergirl, Twilight, and Queen Mab, all of whom used the opportunity to betray their hated mistress. Hurmizah killed Bizarro while Lilith fatally injured Twilight, but Matrix was now free to join the fight. It was Buzz who saved the day, however, by retrieving Hurmizah's fallen knife and plunging it into Lilith before fading away. Linda and Matrix then sent Carnivore, Lilith, and Hurmizah back into Perdition, sealing the Chaos stream as they did. Linda insisted tha Matrix merge with Twilight instead of her--this proved very sound advice, for the new Twilight/Matrix could then restore Linda and Mary to life and health. Linda's powers were even restored to their previous levels (TK blasts, flight, etc) with the exception of the angel powers. She and Mary left the Garden and the new Angel of Fire struck out on her own.
Linda continued as Supergirl, with her powers back to their original (non-angel) levels, and encountered a rocketship which contained a young, vibrant Kara Zor-El from the Pre-Crisis timeline. After a rocky start, the two became close, Linda teaching the younger Supergirl how to be a hero. But Kara's presence in the Post-Crisis era was going to destabilize time. The Spectre appeared and said that Kara was destined to die. Linda secretly took Kara's place, and was sent to the Pre-Crisis era, where she posed as "Kara Zor-El", until the Pre-Crisis Superman uncovered her ruse, and admitted he was in love with her. The two married, and had a daughter, Ariella. But this altered the timelime, and Spectre made her return home, and send frightened young Kara back to her universe, knowing Kara would die. Her daughter was spared from being erased from the timeline by the Spectre, but Linda was heartbroken over her actions. She learned that her parents had just had a second child, named "Wally" ironically. Linda had one last reunion with her family, before leaving everyone to be on her own. Her whereabouts are unknown.
Linda went into deep depression after this. Ridding herself of all connections she had known. She became a sculpter in a town far away from Leesburg or Metropolis. One day Mary Marvel now Mary Malice found her. Mary who had once helped Linda, and befriended her. Manipulated her into joining her. Linda not wanting to be at the lowest point of her life any longer. Joined Mary, in this she got out Mae's old blue, red, and yellow costume. Adorning it, she left the blonde wig. Her and Mary began to plot and plan about the future.
They went after Donna Troy to get the multiverse orb. Which would, eventually, in the end return fallen loved ones. Taking the orb from Donna forcefully. They knocked out Roy Harper, and threw Kendra Sanders out of the window. Donna went after them. Linda and Mary were in there hide out in the now deserted city of Bludhaven. Donna became apart of the duo, now trio's team. After the both of them left. Linda stayed behind because Buzz, who now worked for the moderators, told her that she was not going on the right road. She was going to get rid of the now present Supergirl and maybe even Superman. What happens now is still murky. But it can be said that she will get her revenge one way or another.

Characteristics
Age: 24
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 140 lbs.
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Brown / Blonde
Unusual Features: None
Personality:
- Charismatic: To a certain degree, Earthborn Angels are charismatic entities. Linda, evidently, was extremely well-endowed in that regard. While reclaiming the fragments of her Earthborn Angel aspect, her charisma and appeal helped her through situations that otherwise could have gone very badly for her and for others. Time and again, Linda has proven approachable and able to dispense some advice or wisdom from her own experiences, and help guide others towards a better path. In fact, on several occasions, Superman has told her how much of an inspiration she has been to him, and how she deserves to wear the S-Shield perhaps more than anyone else within "Team Superman". While Linda doesn't always quite believe Superman in that particular matter, she is willing to simply leave it at that and not argue with him.
- Courageous: Linda, since originally merging with Matrix/Supergirl and becoming the Earthborn Angel of Fire, has found the courage to do the right thing time and again. Going beyond anything she ever did either as Linda or as Matrix/Supergirl before merging, Linda has suffered through adversity, sacrifice and loss, and yet still stood her ground and taken the battle to her foes. Her trials and tribulations have served to forge her into a stronger, more confident heroine.
- Faith: Through her growing courage and charisma, Linda has grown more secure and confident in her role, not only as one of the Earthborn Angels, but also as one of the core members of "Team Superman". For someone plagued by insecurities from both of their pasts before merging into one, Linda has grown into a confident and determined young woman, willing and able to believe in the best others can offer, even when others can't see it. Her crisis in faith has long since passed, and although Linda sometimes still doubts, she remains faithful and confident in her mission as the Earthborn Angel of Fire, and in her own personal self-worth.
- Friendly: Linda is friendly and outgoing by nature. She tries to be as kind and polite as she can be to others, unless they go out of their way to annoy or harass her incessantly (like Buzz, for instance). Still, though, the vast majority of people see Linda as a nice and personable young woman, willing and able to do what she can to help others when they need it.
- Independent: Linda has quite an independent streak, which has been part of the reason why she's found herself in some of the situations she has faced in her time. She can be stubborn and willful at times, especially when it comes to making decisions for herself in her personal life. Of course, there have been times where Linda wasn't told much about what's happened (or anything at all, in a few cases, but most of those times has been because she's been away, doing her own thing). It was her sense of independence that led her to become part of the Outsiders in the first place. Sometimes, though, Linda can be too independent, and occasionally needs to be reined in.
- Judgmental: A side effect of her Earthborn Angel nature, Linda can sometimes be judgmental, and quite vocal about it. This tendency has increased somewhat since Linda discovered her ability to see through deception and lies, straight to the truth of the matter. It is something Linda tries to control, but sometimes, in the heat of the moment, she can lapse back into that judgmental attitude, which may alienate her from others and lead to future problems.
- Loyal :
Linda is exceedingly loyal to her family, friends and loved ones. This is especially true for the Danvers and the Kents, as they raised Linda and Supergirl, respectively. Since they can't defend themselves if they were ever to come under attack, Linda would do everything possible to protect them from harm. This isn't to say that Linda would ignore everyone else simply for the Danvers and the Kents, however; Linda would stand by her other family, friends and loved ones with the same staunch determination and courage, and do everything in her power to help them. - Sarcastic :
Linda's sense of humor tends to be sarcastic in most cases. She humors the occasional "dirty joke" (mostly because she, herself, is rather dirty-minded) and the like, mostly from her more independent nature. Some days, she can trade witty remarks with the best of them; other days, she's lucky to be able to think up anything remotely resembling a sarcastic retort. Kon-El/Superboy has the easiest time of bringing out that side of Linda, given their history, but others can sometimes be surprised by some of the things Linda can say in the heat of the moment. - Temper: Linda can sometimes be very temperamental, and not just from being the Earthborn Angel of Fire. If she is being seriously threatened, or one of her family, friends or loved ones is in jeopardy, Linda can develop a righteous indignation. Some of that comes from before her merging with Matrix/Supergirl, who had quite a temper of her own (especially when she discovered how Lex Luthor had been manipulating her and using her for his own benefit). If Linda isn't careful, her temper can be her downfall, much as it was when she fell from grace after watching the corrupt faith healer/pastor of the Leesburg Church of the S die and not lifting a finger to help him (some might call that justifiable, given the circumstances surrounding Dick Malverne's death, but it's still no excuse).
Powers
Known Powers:
- Flight: Linda is capable of defying gravity and propelling herself at speeds far beyond the norm. Thanks to her telekinesis (described in more detail in the Telekinesis entry), Linda can not only fly through the air, but also propel herself through water as well. For simplicity's sake, Linda's top speed is somewhere around the speed of sound in both the atmosphere and underwater (while this seems extremely slow compared to other members of "Team Superman", Linda has the added advantage of teleporting as well -- please refer to Teleportation for further details), although in a combat situation, the general flight speed is equal to a high-performance motorcycle or race car.
- Invulnerability: Due partially to her telekinetic abilities, Linda has a certain invulnerability that keeps her from getting badly injured while going up against some of the threats she continually faces, not only with "Team Superman", but also as one of the Earthborn Angels. Conceivably, Linda could survive a low-yield nuclear explosion, although it would likely knock her unconscious for anywhere from several hours to a couple of days, depending on the yield of the device. In short, this means that bullets will tickle her at best, while a anti-tank rocket would be like taking a punch in the gut that would knock her back several feet.
This also affords Linda the capability to survive in deep space, although she would require some sort of spacesuit or similar equipment to allow her to function outside the confines of Earth's atmosphere, never mind also allow her to perform normal bodily functions such as eating, sleeping and the like. - Psychic blast: Linda's psychic blast is theorized to be linked in some manner with her telekinetic abilities. With this, Linda is able to psychokinetically project concussive force at her target. Powerful enough to take an entire group of people down and disorient them momentarily, it is a power Linda makes use of because of its' non-lethal nature: although she could likely project enough psychokinetic force at a single person to seriously injure (or possibly kill) her target, Linda makes a point to use no more force than is necessary to either stun or knock a target unconscious.
- Supermobility: Linda is capable of moving far faster than a normal human on the ground. Her top speed is approximately half the speed of sound when running. When in a combat situation, Lindas maximum speed is about the same as a high-performance sports car, somewhere in excess of 100 miles per hours (160 kilometers per hour). Needless to say, Linda tends to use her supermobility while in flight, allowing her to respond more quickly to situations (see Flight entry for further details).
- Super coordination: Linda is capable of performing certain actions with greater accuracy than a normal human. Catching objects thrown at her by others (within reason) is a prime example. To a certain degree, this also translates into aiming and accuracy, as Linda could conceivably take a handgun and track targets moving faster than normal. Much more than her own typical velocities in combat, Linda will have trouble with. Needless to say, she wont be catching bullets anytime soon.
- Super physique: Linda's physique is enhanced to a certain degree, allowing her to be as strong as an Olympic bodybuilder without utilizing her telekinetic abilities (for lifting capacity using Linda's telekinesis, please refer to the Telekinesis entry). This means Linda could pick up two grown human adults with some effort, assuming that her telekinetic abilities were being utilized in other ways.
- Super reflexes: Linda's reflexes are similarly enhanced to be greater than normal. Coupled with her coordination, this means her reaction time is therefore faster than a normal human, although nowhere near the level of a human with supersensory capabilities like enhanced vision or hearing. This also means that a normal person with some sort of automatic laser rifle will have a hard time training in on Linda (assuming shes aware of the incoming attack) unless theyre well-trained.
- Telekinesis: Much of Linda's physical might comes from her telekinetic powers. Without physically touching an object, Linda could feasibly lift an oil tanker or something of similar weight (approximately 500 tons, to be a bit more concise) with serious effort. She can also throw objects with her telekinesis, although such movement is limited as noted above. When she does physically touch an object, her lifting capacity is doubled, allowing her to lift as much as 1,000 tons with serious effort, allowing her to potentially lift a train if she had to, although such strenuous effort (especially if prolonged) would leave Linda seriously weakened and vulnerable.
Linda can also immobilize people with her telekinesis, pinning them to whatever surface is on hand, whether vertical or horizontal. She could hold down a crowd of people if necessary, although it would be quite a strain. Related to that is the ability to stick to surfaces that would normally not be capable of walking upon, such as walls and ceilings, or on water. - Teleportation: The more familiar with a location Linda is, the easier it is for her to teleport there. Teleporting to Metropolis or Leesburg from within her range is simplicity in and of itself. Teleporting to a place she isn't too familiar with is more difficult. Although she doesn't like to do it, Linda can teleport blindly, without any knowledge of the area shes teleporting to; however, there may be some trouble if Linda winds up teleporting herself into a solid object like a wall.
Known Abilities:
- Arcane lore: Having been a cult member under Buzz before merging with Matrix/Supergirl, and being the current incarnation of the Earthborn Angel of Fire, Linda has learned quite a bit about the arcane and the occult. Such knowledge has proven useful in certain situations, such as the Day of Judgment, when Asmodel went on a rampage while temporarily bonded with The Spectre. Granted, Linda isn't an occult guru like Dr. Fate or Zatanna or anything, but she does have certain insights into the occult and the arcane that others may not have.
- Brawling: After having spent several years having to protect others from the menaces of supervillains, Linda has learned that sometimes, there is no alternative but to take the fight to the enemy. As such, she has a fairly decent understanding of how to throw a solid punch or deliver a swift kick.
- Command: When the chips are down, Linda has the ability to take stock of a situation and do what needs to be done to resolve it in the best manner possible. Occasionally, that means giving orders to others. She doesn't have the command bearing of a five-star army general or a naval fleet admiral, and certainly not the bearing of someone like Superman or Batman, but Linda can be authoritative when it's a necessity.
- Intimidation: Being the Earthborn Angel of Fire in addition to being a heroine with an independent streak a mile wide, Linda can be quite intimidating and forceful when she has to be. When you can manifest flaming wings and your eyes literally come ablaze when you're angry, it pays to be exceedingly careful when dealing with Linda.
- Know-how (powers): Linda has learned a lot about her powers since merging with Matrix/Supergirl; not just the powers associated with being the Earthborn Angel of Fire, but also the powers she's familiar with from her memories of being Matrix/Supergirl. As such, Linda is quite skilled in their use, and in what she can do to best maximize their various effects.
- Melee combat: Linda knows the basics about fighting in melee with weapons like knives. At least, she knows how to hold a knife in a fight, if she were to use one. However, she is best at using her flaming wings (refer to Fire Manipulation for more details) as melee weapons, after a fashion.
- Persuasion: If there is anything Linda has learned since merging with Matrix/Supergirl and becoming the Earthborn Angel of Fire, it's that sometimes a bit of gentle persuasion is better than intimidation or outright physical confrontation. Linda tries to reason with her opponents to the best of her ability, and sometimes she can convince them to stand down, rather than risk getting hurt by trying to attack her or generally get on her bad side.
- Piloting (self): Between her time as Matrix/Supergirl, and her time after merging to become an Earthborn Angel, Linda has learned how to direct herself and fly to best effect while using her powers to fly through the atmosphere or underwater. Her piloting ability while flying is probably on par with most fighter pilots serving in the armed forces.
- Research: Linda is capable of gathering information from various sources, whether the library, Internet, or archived newspapers. With all the information Linda has spent time learning to discover more about herself and her powers, as well as her role as an Earthborn Angel, she would make a fairly decent library assistant if she wanted to do so.
- Scholarly learning: Linda can remember details and learning from her days in high school and the like. Her level of scholarly learning is on par with a first-year or second-year college student, although Linda has been considering perhaps going back to school to further her education.
- Sculpting: Linda's sculpting work has been nothing short of brilliant. Originally, Linda's work was sculptures of Supergirl. After merging with Superman and beginning to learn of her role as an Earthborn Angel, Linda switched over to sculpting angels. Linda's work has been featured throughout the United States and beyond, thanks to having the international spotlight shined upon her when an exhibit in Paris specifically requested her work to be on display as part of their exhibit on angels. However, Linda is also branching out into new areas in an attempt to expand her horizons as an artist.
- Streetwise: From her less than perfect past, as well as hearing stories from her father about his polic work on the Leesburg Police Department, Linda knows a little bit about where to go and who to see when it comes to illegal goods. This is also the kind of thing that allows Linda to find new contacts, or discover information that would not normally be gained through typical research.
- Willpower: Linda can be stubborn and determined when she wants to be. While she probably wouldn't make a good Green Lantern, Linda can focus herself to resist mental intrusions (assuming that she's aware of them) and be iron-willed when she has to be.
Strength Level: Superhuman
Weaknesses:
- Guilt: Although this is a matter that has been (mostly) dealt with by Linda, there is still a deep-seated guilt of sorts over merging with Supergirl. Most of this stems from the Supergirl part of her dual persona, as she believed that she was only taking over Linda's body and claiming Linda's humanity in the process. However, this guilt is tempered with the knowledge that, had Linda and Supergirl not merged, there would be another Earthborn Angel of Fire, and things may have turned out far differently had such been the case. Still, however, Linda sometimes wonders whether it was for the best... as well as occasionally concerned about whether reclaiming the mantle of Supergirl and the Earthborn Angel of Fire was the best decision to make.
- Healing compulsion: Linda's newfound healing power (refer to the Healing entry for further details) has a drawback. Now that she can heal others, Linda finds herself with the compulsion to do just that: to heal the physical hurts of others, coupled with the desire to do so. While this doesn't seem too bad on the outside, this can be a crippling compulsion on a mental and psychological level, as Linda can literally feel the pain emanating from the injured. Should enough injured be present at her specific location, it could prove to be a potentially lethal compulsion, as she would be overwhelmed by the pain from the injured and have no alternative but to alleviate the compulsion by healing others, even at the cost of protecting herself from harm (such was the case during the battle against the Eliminator, when Linda was so overwhelmed that she couldn't reach the Eliminator in time to try and heal him).
- Holding back: Mostly because of the dark fate that Linda has been warned of (first by Wally the God-boy, and most recently by Zauriel -- explained further in the Dark Fate entry), Linda finds herself reluctant to use more of her Earthborn power than absolutely necessary, afraid that she may cross the line once again and fall from grace. As such, she tends to pull her punches and not respond with the full extent of her power as an Earthborn Angel unless there is no alternative. This tendency, if exploited, can be a very dangerous (and potentially lethal) problem for Linda to deal with.
- Past actions: Linda is haunted by her past actions during her crisis of faith, when Buzz was able to seduce her into joining his cult and then later willingly sacrificing herself during Buzz's attempt to let the demonic entity Lord Chakat loose from Hell. There are memories of acts that now frighten Linda tremendously, and even though she knows she has long since been forgiven by The Presence and others for those actions, the thought of what she did still appalls her. Should she run into a situation that reminds her of her own dark past, Linda could find herself in a dangerous place, uncertain of what to do or how to proceed.
- Secret identity: Thankfully, most of the world remains blissfully unaware that Linda Danvers and Supergirl are one and the same -- then again, when you can shapeshift into two different forms, that certainly helps matters. Most of the people that do know are other superheroes, such as the majority of "Team Superman", as well as the Danvers, the Kents, and Lois Lane. However, a few supervillains have also learned of her secret identity, most notably Hank Henshaw/The Cyborg. Such villains can pose a significant threat to not only Linda, but also to her friends and loved ones... even those who aren't aware of her secret identity.
