History
Big Barda was born of the race of New Gods about 250 years ago, on the hell planet called Apokolips. She is a product of Granny Goodness's Home for Orphaned Youth, where the motto is "Die for Darkseid" (the planet's evil ruler). Barda was trained by Granny herself. A sadistic old crone, Granny knew the value of discipline by using punishment and total obedience as training methods. It was not long before Barda became the leader of the Female Fury Battalion, a group of women warriors who did Granny's bidding. During one raid, Barda met Scott Free, one of Darkseid's Elite Stormtroopers. She sensed a sort of peace about him and soon fell in love.
She could not forget him and, when the time came, she risked her own safety to help Scott escape from Apokolips. Eventually, Barda turned her back on Granny and came to Earth herself. Scott had become an escape artist called Mister Miracle and teamed with Oberon, his diminutive manager. Scott and Barda were soon married by Scott's father, the Highfather of New Genesis.
For a number of years, Barda followed Scott and Oberon on tour as Mister Miracle. Eventually they retired as superheroes and moved to Bailey, New Hampshire. Despite their best attempts, a normal life eluded them. Disasters plagued them constantly, so Barda, Scott, and Oberon finally left Baily and moved to a loft in Greenwich Village, New York. There Barda helped form a defense-training program for women called the New Female Furies. During this time, Barda was kidnapped along with Superman by Sleez. Sleez mind-controlled them and nearly forced the two to perform in an adult film. They were rescued by Mr. Miracle.
Though she came to Earth naive to its customs, she relishes her roles of wife and housekeeper. But when duty calls she never hesitates to assume the posture of a warrior. When Scott's joined the new Justice League, Barda participated in a few missions as well. After his time with the JLI was over, they left Earth for New Genesis. As ever, they soon returned to Earth and took up a temporary residence aboard the Justice League Refuge. The couple underwent a brief separation due to Scott's lack of consideration for her feelings.
Next it was Barda's turn to join the Justice League. At Takion's order, she and fellow New God Orion were sent as agents of New Genesis to serve in the JLA. Takion predicted that a grave threat to Earth and felt that the New Gods should help out.
Their mission was to help mobilize Earth's heroes against the coming of the omnipotent Mageddon. Once Mageddon was defeated, she and Orion resigned from the JLA.
Barda and Scott currently reside in the suburbs of Connecticut and are active in adventuring. She never hesitates to lend a hand to her friends when her power and expertise are in need. She has accompanied Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman to Apokolips to rescue Supergirl from Darkseid's clutches.
Later, she accepted an invitation from Oracle's to become her resident heavy-hitter in the Birds of Prey. She remained on the team for years until it disbanded. She has continued to act as a hero through the years.
Characteristics
Age: 250
Height: 6’2
Weight: 207
Eyes: blue
Hair: Black
Unusual Features: Unusually tall
Personality: The first time Barda came to Earth was a disaster. She disliked it and didn't want to have any part of it. She didn't like the humans of Earth thinking they were rude and nasty and that she shouldn’t be around such trash. But part of this attitude came from how naive she was to the world.
Time passed and she grew to love the world and understand it's customs. Being on Earth has made her very easy going and care free. Now she has become more comical and friendly to others. She always has a confidence in herself in battle that not many other people have. When she fights, she plans to win.
Barda is a quick-tempered, passionate, stubborn, emotion-driven, and out-spoken woman with a tendency to strike first and ask questions later.
Barda has a deep yearning for a 'normal' or 'domestic' life - She takes true pleasure in cooking, cleaning, and keeping house, purely because it's the only thing in her life she has that's not tainted by war. Make no mistake, Barda has no desire to sit on the sidelines while trouble is brewing, but when there's nothing Earth Shaking going on, Barda is perfectly content to be a house-wife.
Barda is not insane, but her behavior can definitely be construed as... extreme. Most notably while on a mission: NOTHING will get in Barda's way, and nothing short of death will stop her. She will absolutely not let anything slow her down or keep her from attaining her goal. She will fight tooth and nail for freedom - her own and that of those she cares about and loves. She will not hesitate to offer suggestions or state her opinion of a decision, often arguing in order to win people over to her way of thinking.
Barda is one of the most loyal people that anyone could ever meet. Barda would do just about anything for her friends, and absolutely anything for Scott Free. She is absolutely unwilling to let anyone she cares about down, and would rather die than destroy someone's faith in her. This is why it took her so long to leave Granny Goodness and Apokolips - it took that long for the fact (as revealed by Scott) of her manipulation and abuse at the hands of Granny to sink in. Being disloyal is anathema to Barda, and she would never willingly betray a friend or loved one, ever.
Part and parcel of her unwillingness to lie, Barda will not just sit back and roll with something she doesn't like. She will absolutely give her explicit opinion, whether it was asked for or not. Barda has no love of moral subterfuge, and may occasionally say something that offends or hurts someone's feelings without really meaning to. If she feels it strongly enough to say it, she will say it, no matter what it is. The only time Barda -doesn't- express a dissenting opinion is once a group she is working with has decided on a course of action. If she isn't the leader, she will not argue with whoever is in front of the others - she will keep her dissenting opinions between herself and the leader.
While some who observed her might believe that Barda cared for only herself and Scott and little else, they would be quite wrong. Barda's breadth of experience since living on Earth has opened her eyes and her heart, and she cares quite a bit for not only Earth, but also New Genesis, and all of the friends and family in between. While she can be overly sensitive about some things (comments about her cooking, mostly), Barda is not a stone cold war machine, and hasn't been for quite some time.
Barda is, rightly, proud of herself and her accomplishments. She is the best Warrior ever to come from Apokolips. She lives free, and has a husband who loves and cherishes her, and whom she loves and cherishes. She's proud of her ability to clean and keep a home. And she is proud of her cooking, clueless as she is to human standards of the art. However, her pride is not a sticking point - she knows exactly where her skills stand (except her cooking), and where she is exceeded by others, and is able to defer to them as necessary

Powers
Known Powers:
- Immortality:
Barda was born in the year 1748 (As far as Earth dates go, anyhow.) Like few other of the New Gods, Barda is functionally immortal, having ceased aging physically near the age of 30. Unless she falls in battle, Barda is immune to the ravages of time, and could easily live for thousands upon thousands of years. - Invulnerability: Even outside her armor, Barda is fairly difficult to damage. She is resistant to blunt trauma like punches, kicks, and blows from weapons like bats and maces, though not -completely- immune; unless the blows a dealt by a being with similar or greater strength than Barda, there just isn't a chance of injury. However, her invulnerability does not extend to bullets, laser-blasts, or other piercing/slicing weapons - her invulnerability is more akin to that of an Amazon, rather than a Kryptonian
- Strength: While Barda's strength as a New God is naturally greater than that of a human woman of her (approximate) build and stature who engages in regular intensive exercise, her exposure to the Generation Matrix enhanced that twenty-fold. Her strength can me measured in the hundreds of thousands of tons - just below that of Wonder Woman and Power Girl, but an equal match for Maxima.
- Stamina: Barda's stamina and endurance is nothing short of amazing. Due to the naturally exhausting and extensive rigors of her life on Apokolips, Barda is able to manage her stamina on a certain amount of rest and sustenance (more than minimal) so that it seems she is able to constantly function, though this is not entirely the case. Tied directly to her strength and invulnerability, even her immunity to a certain extent, Barda can actually function at peak efficiency for almost 48 hours before needing to eat and rest off the stress.
- Reflexes: Barda's reflexes are nothing short of amazing - As a New God, her reflexes would match Harley Quinn's easily, but due to her exposure to the Generation Matrix, her reflexes are much, much better. And even then, with centuries of training under Granny Goodness, Barda's reaction times and physical responses are honed to a razor's edge - at peak awareness, Barda is easily capable of snatching large enough projectiles (like arrows or thrown weapons) right out of the air. Her movements are fluid and controlled, her mind and body working together at all times.
- Willpower: While Barda's vast physical prowess may be more immediately obvious, the warrior from Apokolips also has vast stores of mental fortitude at her disposal - and she has to, to wield her Mega-Rod without being destroyed by it. She has her own opinions and ideas, and when she digs her heels in on an issue one has a better chance of turning back the tides than changing her mind. Even if there's a very good reason not to fight, Barda is likely to tackle the situation in other ways, rather than sit around and do nothing. She is especially unwilling to face defeat, and will soldier on through thick and thin, exhausting all options rather than sit and wait.
- Immunity: Barda's nature as a New God makes her far more resistant to illness, diseases, and poisons than an unpowered human. It's her exposure to Darkseid's Generation Matrix, however, that gives her the ability to shrug off nasties that would bring down even the hardiest metahumans. Her immune system works with super-human speed, processing poisons and toxins before they get much of a chance to affect her. Her immunity is best comparable to Wonder Woman's, though Superman and Orion have immune systems even more advanced than Barda.
Known Abilities:
- Hand to Hand: Barda was trained by Granny Goodness, both personally and by being pitted against her other 'children', to be the best. Barda was trained in both basic and advanced hand-to-hand techniques, as well as just how to make the most of her level of strength. Barda outclasses every other warrior ever trained on Apokolips - the only times she's ever been defeated were a result of facing overwhelming odds on her own. On the basis of skill alone, she outclasses both Superman and Orion, but is an equal match for Wonder Woman.
- Weapons: Though Barda generally prefers to use her Mega-Rod in a battle, she is skilled with a broad variety of hand-held weapons - familiar with everything from staffs and staves, to swords, knives, and axes. While not intimately knowledgeable about the various weapons on Earth, she knows enough about weaponry to be able to pick one up and use it - even if not in the intended form. Her general melee weapon skill is equivalent to Maxima's.
When using the Mega-Rod, however, that's a different story. She has used the Mega-Rod for so long, and become so familiar with it, that when in battle, it practically functions as an extension of her arm. She uses it as well as Superman uses most melee weapons - Computer Ops: The worlds of Apokolips and New Genesis are far more advanced on a technological level than almost any world still existing. Even on Earth, with more 'primitive' technology, Barda possesses a great deal of skill in operating computers and getting from them what she wants or needs. Just about anything outside the realm of programming or repairing computers, she can do. Though since there are those on Earth far more skilled than she is with the native technology, Barda generally limits the breadth of her skill to helping maintain the Fourth World technology the Justice League has possession of.
- Interrogation: Barda is a skilled interrogator, easily slipping into 'Bad Mood' mode in order to get accurate information. She is, without a doubt, the Quintessential 'Bad Cop' - she's not beyond getting physically aggressive with her subjects, either. How far she's willing to go all depends on what's at stake.
- Leadership: Barda knows how to be a good leader - how to organize others, how to make the most of their strengths and utilize the group to minimalize overall weaknesses. Barda knows all about the chain of command, from her days as a lowly dog soldier to her eventual leadership of the Female Furies. However, Barda's leadership style works far better with smaller groups of up to 10 people or so - able to lead quick strike missions, task forces, and patrols with great success.
- Tactics: Trained by Darkseid's Master Strategist, Granny Goodness, Barda is an exceptionally skilled tactician and strategist. She's able to analyze an enemy's strengths and weaknesses and use that knowledge to her best advantage. She knows how to formulate a plan of attack, and how to amend that plan as needed on the field.
- Survival: On Apokolips, survival isn't an option - it's life or death, every day is an exercise in continued survival. Barda can handle herself, come hell or high water, on Apokolips. She knows where to go, what to do, what -not- to do, what not to touch, eat, or come close to. Granted, since she's basically the equivalent of a Celebrity/Wanted Felon on her home plane and has been since she escaped, she doesn't have much opportunity to show off this level of skill. This has translated to camping and wilderness situations on Earth, however. She could live off the land indefinitely (though certainly not comfortably) as long as there's enough water/food/etc. in the surrounding area to do so.
Strength Level: Big Barda possesses super human strength
Weaknesses:
- Temper: Barda's temper is nothing short of legendary. Being dismissed, ignored, underestimated, or insulted (ESPECIALLY those who insult her cooking) are all ways to easily trigger Barda's wrath. When she's on the warpath, it's often best if those who -aren't- the target of her rage to just get out of her way. While her temper has calmed down considerably since her marriage to Scott and her arrival on Earth, it's still a force to be reckoned with. Most people who know Barda know better than to upset her.
- Impulsive: 'Hit First, Ask Questions Later' - If something is a verified threat, Barda will move to subdue/contain it before investigating further or asking questions. Once the threat is handled, -then- one can have all the time they want to figure out the reasons. Scott has been able to deal with this when they work together mainly by being the 'Good Cop' to Barda's 'Bad Cop.' While this behavior is greatly couched during team/mission situations, it's still present as something Barda would quietly (sometimes not so quietly) offer as a far better solution to trying to deal with criminals. When she's in civillian clothing and 'off-duty', Barda is even more prone to this kind of impulsive behavior, more willing to take things into her own hands - What better time to catch a crook than when one thinks no heroes are around?
- Tougher/Physical: While Barda is a powerhouse and a fierce warrior, she is not completely invulnerable. Fighting powerful opponents, such as Wonder Woman and the like, can result with her being knocked out, or even killed. Even though she is physically tougher than most people, that dosn't mean she can't be beaten. Any sorts of strong metals could peirce her skin. Large explosions stong enough to hurt her. Yet it would take a battle tank hit to get her attention. She can be beaten by people who are more mentaly and physically strong than her. She also can be taken down if she is fighting multiple numbers of people who gang up on her.
- Radion: New Gods are vulnerable to a substance called Radion. It source is unknown and its effects are toxic only in sustained amounts or after explosive exposure. The average New God can be slain by an application of Radion from a Radion blaster or bomb. More advanced beings such as Barda, protected by their mother box, armor and sheer toughness, have been known to take two hits and survive. Radion, must be hard to come by, because if it was not, Darkseid would obviously equip more of his troops with it. Perhaps it requires the mysterious Element X to create it.
Misc (optional)
Equipment:
- Mother Box: Mother Boxes are 'living computers' typically found on New Genesis. The term 'living computer' should be understood as an approximation; they seem to be part living being, part highly developed machine. They look like small boxes, about the size of a Terran house brick at largest.
- Omniscience: Motherbox has control of all Detection Powers, and Mental Powers regarding insight.
- Omni-knowledge: Motherbox has Amazing access to know just about anything needed at the time.
- Energy Transference: Because Mother Box has the Leadership talent, she can automatically transfer her energy to her user. In addition, through his affection for Mother Box, the user can transfer energy back to her. Only one such attempt is allowed per day.
- Source Conduit: Mother Boxes have been seen to: Access the Energy of the Source for various effects such as;
- Gravity Manipulation: Change the gravitational constant of an area.
- Energy Transfer: Transfer energy from one place to another.
- Emotion Control: Control the mental state of a host.
- Telepathy: Communicate telepathically with a host or other life form.
- Regenerate Others: Manipulate the life-force of a host to sustain it past fatal injuries.
- Omniscience: Motherbox has control of all Detection Powers, and Mental Powers regarding insight.
- Boom -Tube: ability to open or close boom-tubes. Any character that possesses both a Mother Box and a sample of X-Element can automatically create a Boom Tube capable of transporting him between dimensions and galaxies. Boom Tubes have the Warp power at Class 5000, Dimension Travel, and remain open approximately eight seconds (1-2 rounds).
- Machine Animation/Control: Take over and control non-sentient machines, including the ability to evolve non-sentient machines.
- Gestalt: Merge sentient beings into a single more powerful being.
- Life Support: Sustain a life form in a hostile environment such as space, and many others.
Transportation:
- Boom - Tube: A large tube like gate that opens and teleports you anywhere.
The Fourth World exists in its own dimension separate from the normal universe. But a boom tube's primary function is essentially to connect the New Gods' dimension with our own. But it can also be used to travel within our universe (or within the New Gods' home dimension); it's normally used to travel great distances.
New Gods are about 300 feet tall, on an absolute reference scale. When they Boom Tube to another plane, the Mother Box/Mega-Rod reconfigures their body to an appropriate size. Similarly, when a Terran Boom tubes to New Genesis, they are reconfigured as well.
But if you use a different form of teleportation, that reconfiguration doesn't take place. So humans end up ants. - Areo disc: discs that fit on feet and allow you to fly.
Weapons:
- Mega-rod: The Mega Rod is a Weapon that is used by Big Barda it has many applications. So far, Barda has used it as a hand to hand weapon, to fire energy blasts and as a means of transportation. Mega-Rod is fueled by Barda's own Will, can Generate Boom Tubes because of inclusion of Element X and It was measured as Five tonnes per cubic inch.
