History
Green Lantern
A native of the planet Korugar in space sector 1417 (as the Guardians designate space), Sinestro was initially considered to be one of the greatest Green Lanterns, but as the years passed, he became more and more fixated not simply on protecting the magenta-skinned Korugarians, but on preserving order in their society. Eventually he concluded that the best way to accomplish this was to conquer them, and to rule the planet as a dictator.
When Hal Jordan joined the Corps, Sinestro was assigned to be his instructor. Jordan was horrified at the way Sinestro ruled his people like a dictator, though Sinestro maintained that his iron-fisted rule was necessary to protect his people from alien forces. As such, while repelling the alien warlords known as the Khunds from attacking the planet, the Korugarians rebelled. When Jordan called for help from the other Green Lanterns, Sinestro's dictatorship was exposed and he was forced to appear before the Guardians for punishment. Katma Tui, the leader of the rebellion who had felt that Sinestro's "protection" kept her people from growing as a society through contact with other alien races, was recruited as his replacement.
The Guardians decided to punish Sinestro by banishing him to the "antimatter universe", in particular, the alien world of Qward. Their motive for doing so was to humble Sinestro, by exiling him to a world ruled by evil and in particular, beings who hated the Guardians and the Green Lanterns. This would be a major miscalculation, as Sinestro instead was taken in by the Weaponers of Qward. The Weaponers were a group of warriors and scientists who hated the Guardians as much as Sinestro did and the two became allies, with the Weaponers offering to help Sinestro gain revenge on the Green Lantern Corps and the Guardians.
Creating a yellow power ring for him to use, they sent him back to his home universe to seek his revenge. Sinestro quickly became a powerful nemesis toward the Green Lantern Corps, partially due to the fact that their power rings cannot directly affect anything yellow. Despite this, skilled Green Lanterns like Jordan always found ways to defeat him.
Before the Guardians took a leave of absence from their universe to attempt mating with their counterparts the Zamarons, they constructed an inescapable prison for Sinestro and thousands of others on Oa. However, Sinestro's cunning prevailed once again and he managed to free himself through the mental manipulation of the Mad God of Sector 3600. Now wielding nearly unlimited power, Sinestro murdered entire star systems until he was finally subdued by the Green Lantern Corps of Earth. Now guilty of multiple acts of genocide, Sinestro was put on trial again by the assembled membership of the Green Lantern Corps. Finding him guilty, they condemned him to death and executed him, not realizing this activated a failsafe system within the Central Power Battery on Oa that caused it to be destroyed should ever a Korugarian male be killed by a Guardian or their agents (the failsafe was created by the Guardians after their mates, the Zamarons left them to live with Korugarians, a fact that they told no one out of jealousy and shame). Ironically, Sinestro's death then resulted (temporarily at least) in what he sought to achieve in life; the destruction of the Corps. He had also managed to cheat death itself by transferring his consciousness into the Central Power Battery, where he made a startling discovery about the ancient Yellow Impurity within the Green Lantern's light.
The yellow impurity turned out to be a sentient entity known as Parallax and the two merged as Hal Jordan entered the battery to desperately try and save the few remaining Green Lanterns, whose power rings had not been rendered powerless by the death of Sinestro. Jordan ultimately defeated Sinestro, whose spirit was condemned to remain trapped inside the power battery for eternity. But for Sinestro, his was a victory that was greater: not only had he decimated the Green Lantern Corps, but through him, the yellow impurity entity Parallax had successfully infected Hal's mind, setting up Sinestro's ultimate triumph.
Guy Gardner, forced to forfeit his Green Lantern ring after a grudge match with Jordan, set out on a quest to regain his power and identity. With the help of Lobo, Gardner acquired the yellow power ring of Sinestro from Oa's Crypt of the Green Lantern Corps. The yellow ring did not use a battery to recharge but actually needed to be used against Green Lanterns to restore power. Gardner found this out by accident when a member of the GLC fought him while he had absolutely no power.
As the yellow ring spoke Sinestro's native language, Guy was unable to communicate with it, although it seemed to understand him to a degree.
Guy only wore the yellow ring for a short while as the character was caught up in the new editorial direction for the Green Lantern franchise that led to the controversial Emerald Twilight storyline in Green Lantern (vol. 3) #48-50 and it was decided to take the yellow ring from Gardner and completely reinvent the character.
Parallax
In the meantime, the return of the Guardians resulted in the Corps being re-established, only to be attacked and annihilated by Jordan himself when he was possessed by the Parallax entity, and taking its name. Driven mad with grief by the destruction of his home city and the apathy of the Guardians towards his plight, the yellow impurity pushed Hal towards a Parallax-induced homicidal rampage that left scores of Green Lanterns dead or maimed as Parallax sought to absorb the Central Power Battery's energies into his being.
Sinestro was then revived by the Guardians and sent to stop Hal only to be murdered by his enemy. But Sinestro's death was not as it appeared, as he would later imply that the being that Jordan killed was a construct made by Parallax and unknowingly extracted from the Central Power Battery.
Hal Jordan promptly finished off the Green Lantern Corps by absorbing the Central Power Battery's energies into himself. How Sinestro escaped remains unexplained, but he survived and went into hiding as he watched Hal become what Sinestro had become: a traitor and a murderer reviled by his friends and his allies.
Duplicate
During the Wonder Woman Lifeline storyline, an imperfect duplicate of Sinestro was created by an artificial intelligence based on the son of scientist Doctor Julian Lazarus, who was attempting to bring his son back after being responsible for the accident that killed him. The AI based on the child had already created a short-lived copy of Barry Allen, and subsequently created a copy of Sinestro based on an old video tape of the villain. Although lacking Sinestro's tactical genius, the boy's random use of Sinestro's powers resulted in the destruction of at least two skyscrapers and a bridge, and he would have killed Wonder Woman were it not for the intervention of a disguised Hercules. The program went on to create a duplicate of Doomsday before it was shut down for good.
Return
Sinestro eventually revealed the charade of his 'death' when Kyle Rayner discovered the existence of Parallax and revealed it to Green Arrow and the Justice League. Nearly killing the two heroes, Sinestro was stopped by the newly resurrected Hal Jordan, who reclaimed his ring and was purged of Parallax's influence. The two fought to a draw, with Sinestro escaping to the anti-matter universe when his ring was damaged by Hal during the fight.
Sinestro later appeared in the miniseries Villains United, where he captured Lady Quark for the Secret Society of Super-Villains. Sinestro had been a member of the group in the past. Here he plays a major role in the Society's massacre of the Freedom Fighters, who are investigating the meeting place of other villains, but walk into an ambush. Sinestro begins the fight by blowing a hole through the chest of the second Black Condor, killing him instantly. He then defeats Uncle Sam, leaving him for dead.
The Sinestro Corps
After the Battle of Metropolis, Sinestro retreated to the anti-matter universe. Here, he encountered the Anti-Monitor and embraced the doctrine of spreading fear. With the Green Lantern Corps restarted with the return of Hal Jordan, Sinestro has decided to found the Sinestro Corps, offering yellow power rings and a role in the Corps to the most feared and savage warriors of the universe. The size and scope of this new organization has yet to be revealed but stands to be a major threat for the Green Lantern Corps in the near future. He is also revealed to have masterminded the death of Kyle Rayner's mother by having the sentient virus Despotellis invade her as part of a plot to break Kyle's will so that he can become Parallax's latest host.
As the Sinestro Corps continue to attack Green Lanterns across space, Sinestro himself returns to Korugar to confront his successor, Soranik Natu. Sinestro defeats her, but spares her life, calculating that this will force her to stay on Korugar to fulfill her responsibilities as "the Savior of Korugar." Sinestro then returns to Qward to join the battle occurring there, and demands to know where Jordan is.
Sinestro, upon returning to Qward, confronts Earth's Green Lanterns, and upon their escape, follow them toward Earth; the Sinestro Corps' real target. Hal Jordan calls for backup, and upon their arrival, the Sinestro Corps begin attacking Earth. Sinestro reveals to Hal, Guy, and John, that he intends to turn Earth into the new homeworld for the Sinestro Corps, and the site of the new Coast City into a mass graveyard.
A major battle ensues, and Sinestro and his Corps retreat. Because of this battle, the GL Corps enacts new laws--including giving the Green Lanterns the ability to kill members of the Sinestro Corps. This was Sinestro's overall goal. Now the Green Lanterns spread fear by being unchecked.
Sinestro is now using Cyborg and Kyle (as Parallax) in order to spread more fear on earth.

Characteristics
Age: 40
Height: 6’7”
Weight: 205lbs
Eyes: Blue/Black
Hair: Black
Unusual Features: Magenta Skin
Personality:
- Aggressive: To say that Sinestro is an aggressive person would be stating the matter somewhat mildly. Sinestro has the sort of personality that just naturally pushes forward, even if he must sometimes treat other sentients as terrain features. He also uses intellect and guile.
- Courageous: Courage is one of the most famed requirements for membership in the Green Lantern Corps. As one of the best ever, Sinestro is a seasoned warrior who is no stranger to pain and death. Sinestro’s normal reaction to fear is, in fact, usually quite the opposite to what one would expect: in almost every case fear tends to make him want to take the offensive.
- Charismatic: Sinestro is a person with a strong, assertive personality. He commands respect as soon as he walks (or floats) into the room. Those that know him, fear his power and respect his experience. He has a take charge, lead by example type of personality that makes people who are loyal to him want to follow him into battle. His years of experience in leading and training other lanterns has allowed him to understand how to command and how to manipulate others to see his perspective. His way is Just and Righteous after all, and through him lays the Path of Justice.
- Intelligent: Sinestro has a gifted intellect. He is not on par with Batman or Hawkman for example, but he is a genius. He can sum up a problem quickly, and come up with alternatives to the problems fast and efficiently. This makes it seem like he has answers for everything, and even if he's wrong, at least he does attacks the problem, not sitting back mulling over his decision.
- Relentless: The man doesn't know how to give up. He will keep fighting and fighting until he's either unconscious or the enemy is defeated. T
- Perceptive: Actually, both perceptive and observant. Sinestro watches people and situations very carefully, always weighing and judging and calculating what's present and what's needed, always taking mental notes on abilities and wants and personalities and tendencies. There're always comparisons and contrasts and cross-references and judgment calls going on in his head, and as a result, he's almost always on top of things, able to predict likelihoods in tense circumstances and unstable relations. It's part of what makes him a good leader, and it's part of what makes him able to pinpoint just what needs to be said or done, and when.
Powers
Known Powers: Sinestro possesses no superhuman powers, receiving all his power from his Sinestro Corps Power Ring. The ring functions just like a Green Lantern Power Ring, but uses fear instead of willpower.
Known Abilities:
- Brawling: Sinestro has been taught various martial arts, and knows how to handle himself in situations that require physical blows. Using physical force, however, is not one of Sinestro’s favored tactics when dealing with others who are hostile towards him unless absolutely necessary.
- Science: Sinestro has learned an amazing amount of knowledge relating to the various sciences, such as chemistry, biology, genetics, physics and computers, among other sciences. He is a scientist and engineer and is fully capable of building weapons, armors, and other technological devices.
- Leadership: Leadership is typically the ability to lead a group of people, to inspire confidence, to raise morale, to properly direct those around him to do what needs to be done, and to properly utilize the strengths and abilities of those you are leading to best succeed at tasks… Sinestro is all this and more. Sinestro has the leadership ability not only to lead in battle, to also teach and instill discipline.
- Lantern Lore: When it comes to knowledge of the Green Lantern Corps and the Guardians themselves, few are as knowledgeable as Sinestro (even Hal himself). Sinestro has served with the Corps for a good number of years, even having consulted the Book of Oa on many occasions during his service, and has been through many catastrophes that the Corps has had to endure including his personal decimation of the Corps under the influence of Malvolio. On top of that, Sinestro accomplished feats that no other Green Lantern had ever done before. The tenets of the Corps, the limitations of power rings and how to overcome them, power batteries, few became as experienced as Sinestro about all things Green Lantern.
- Universal Knowledge: Sinestro has seen a lot in his time as a Green Lantern, and even beyond, and has pretty much experiencing one side of the universe to the other, not to mention alternate realities, alien cultures, and even the future. He's experienced enough that even without his power ring he can recognize various alien races from each other, determine what planet he's traveling to based on its appearance and its moons, and knows enough about alien cultures to not do anything offensive while on certain planets.
- Power Ring Usage: Sinestro is one of the most experienced ring wielders the Corps have ever seen, his skills with the power ring surpassing most if not all other Corps members that came before him. His skill had him picked to train multiple lanterns. His mastery of his power ring has allowed him to utilize its more exotic and esoteric functions with relative ease, even to the point where Sinestro has figured out various ways around some of the limitations of the ring.
Strength Level: He is an exceptional athlete, being stronger than the average man of his size, but no-where near peak-human strength.
Weaknesses: Without the ring, Sinestro is a normal and is vulnerable to all those thing a normal human would be vulnerable to, such as street weapons, gunfire, disease, gases, etc. However most of his weaknesses come from the limitations of his power ring, found below under equipment.
