History
Hank Henshaw first appeared as a crew member of the doomed LexCorp space shuttle Excalibur. Hank and the other three members of the Excalibur crew (including his wife, Terri) were exposed to cosmic radiation, resulting in the crash of their shuttle. As a result of the radiation exposure, the human bodies of two crew members were destroyed. However, their minds survived and they were able to construct new bodies out of pure cosmic radiation and bits of earth and the shuttle (homage’s to the Human Torch and the Thing, respectively).
Initially, Henshaw and his wife suffered no ill effects from the radiation and the crew travelled to Metropolis, in the hope of using LexCorp facilities to cure their transformed crewmates. During a brief battle with Superman, the crew member now composed of radiation became unhinged and flew into the sun. By this time, Henshaw's body had begun to rapidly decay while his wife was beginning to phase into an alternate dimension. With Superman's help, Henshaw was able to use the LexCorp facilities to save Terri, but died immediately afterwards. The remaining member of the shuttle crew committed suicide using an MRI booth.
However, Hank Henshaw had not truly died. Though his physical body had expired, he was able to transfer his consciousness into the LexCorp's mainframe. Now able to control technology, Henshaw appeared to his wife in a robotic body; the shock of the shuttle accident, Henshaw's death and his bizarre rebirth was too much for Terri and eventually led to her insanity and death. By this point, Henshaw's electronic consciousness had begun to disrupt Earth's communications networks. Using NASA communications equipment, Henshaw beamed his mind into the 'birthing Matrix' which had carried Superman from Krypton to Earth as an infant. Henshaw crafted a small exploration craft from the birthing matrix and departed the planet.
Henshaw spent some time traveling between planets; bonding with local lifeforms to learn about the culture and history of various worlds. Over time, Henshaw became delusional and paranoid, believing that Superman had caused the deaths of himself and his wife, then driven him from the Earth. Arriving on a planet controlled by alien overlord (and Superman nemesis) Mongul, Henshaw learned of the Warworld and forcibly recruited Mongul as part of a plan for revenge against Superman.
With Superman dead after his battle with Doomsday, Henshaw was unable to directly seek revenge against the man he had come to perceive as his enemy and instead sought to destroy Superman's reputation. To that end, the Cyborg claimed to be Superman reborn; using knowledge obtained from the birthing matrix to construct a cybernetic body with organic portions genetically identical to Superman and technological components built with Kryptonian alloys. Along with destroying a Superman memorial plaque in front of the Daily Planet, the Cyborg exiled Doomsday into space and defended the President of the United States from an assassination attempt. As a result of the latter incident, the White House endorsed the Cyborg as the 'true' Superman and he provided the President with a communications device. When confronted by Lois Lane, the Cyborg claimed his memory was "blurry" but he could see a "spaceship on a farm. The name 'Kent'", suggesting Henshaw may be aware of Superman's secret identity.
Henshaw's arrival as Superman was simultaneous with three others: John Henry Irons, the self-styled Last Son of Krypton, and the modern Superboy.
When an alien ship appeared over Coast City, the Cyborg revealed his true intentions, attacking and severely injuring the Eradicator as Mongul's craft destroyed the city, killing millions. The Cyborg was then able to convince the White House and the public that the Eradicator had been responsible for the destruction of Coast City, turning the public against the Kryptonian. He also came within a hairsbreadth of killing the Eradicator in direct combat. After tricking and defeating Superboy, Henshaw set about preparing to launch a warhead that would convert Metropolis into a second Engine City. However, Superboy was able to escape and warn the resurrected true Superman, John Henry Irons and Supergirl of the Cyborg's plans. The quartet traveled to the site of the former Coast City where Superman, Supergirl and Steel confronted Mongul and the Cyborg while Superboy stopped the missile from destroying Metropolis. While Green Lantern defeated Mongul, the Cyborg lured Superman and the Eradicator to the Engine City main reactor and attempted to kill Superman with the kryptonite that powered the engine. Henshaw attempted to kill Superman using a concentrated blast of kryptonite radiation, but the Eradicator intercepted the blast at the expense of his own life. However, as the Kryptonite energy passed through the Eradicator, the radiation was altered and acted to restore Superman's powers. Superman was then able to easily defeat the Cyborg (partially due to the kryptonite weakening the Cyborg's Kryptonian form) by vibrating Henshaw's body to pieces.
Before exiling Doomsday into space, Henshaw had installed a device on the monster to allow him to detect if Doomsday were to ever escape. After the destruction of his 'Cyborg Superman' body, Henshaw transferred his consciousness into this device, as Doomsday was "the safest place in the galaxy" for the Cyborg to hide. Doomsday was eventually brought on board a space cruiser and managed to escape, landing on Apokolips. Henshaw re-emerged once again, reconfiguring an exo-armoured Apokoliptian trooper into a new body, establishing his standard appearance with long hair and red armour, and began to lay siege to Apokolips alongside Doomsday (although the Henshaw's body possessed Superman's Kryptonian DNA, Doomsday did not seem to perceive the Cyborg as a threat). The Cyborg successfully took over most of Apokolips, but was destroyed by Darkseid's Omega Beams after a short battle with Superman.
Darkseid's attack did not kill the Cyborg; rather, the Omega Effect had stored Henshaw's consciousness in a small orb, with Darkseid planning to use the Cyborg against Superman at a later date. Darkseid eventually freed Henshaw, with the understanding that Henshaw was to leave Apokolips and never return. The Cyborg eventually aligned himself with an intergalactic 'tribunal', which was seeking to bring Superman to trial for the crimes of his ancestors. Henshaw assisted the tribunal in capturing Superboy, Supergirl, Steel and Alpha Centurion, who had been preparing to rescue Superman. However, the Cyborg betrayed the tribunal and attempted to conquer their planet for conversion into a new Warworld. Superman and his allies stopped the Cyborg's plan and, when Henshaw's involvement in the destruction of Coast City was brought to the attention of the tribunal, they found the Cyborg guilty of genocide and sentenced him to death. As an electronic consciousness, Henshaw could not be killed by normal means and was transported beyond the event horizon of a black hole, where not even energy could escape from the gravity.
Rather than being destroyed, the Cyborg was transported to the Marvel Universe, as seen at the beginning of the Green Lantern/Silver Surfer crossover. The Cyborg destroyed a planet in another attempt to recreate Warworld, attracting the attention of the Silver Surfer. Their short battle was interrupted by the arrival of Parallax, who had been tracking the Cyborg for some time, seeking vengeance for the destruction of Coast City. In the confusion, Henshaw managed to escape and was returned to the DC Universe by the end of the story.
The Cyborg would again encounter Hal Jordan, at the very brim of the Godwave, a nexus of statues that flow forth energy vital to the preservation of the Fourth World. Parallax used his powers to generate representations of the victims of Coast City, who tore the Cyborg's body apart. Jordan than dispersed Henshaw's consciousness into the Godwave and the Cyborg was once again seemingly destroyed.
During a crisis involving the Godwave, Superman (wearing at the time his "Blue Energy Costume" travelled to New Genesis, and encountered Henshaw again, Henshaw had become part of the Godwave's structure and had crafted a small world comprised of his memories, which he used to taunt Superman, after seemingly being defeated. However, unknown to Superman, the Cyborg stored his own consciousness in Superman's technological containment suit. After Superman returned to Earth, Henshaw escaped and eventually constructed a new body, posing as a substitute high school teacher in an attempt to become human again (even managing to convince Asbury Armstrong that he possessed some goodness).
However, in a fit of rage, Henshaw revealed his true identity as the Cyborg and this body was destroyed in a short fight with Superman. To escape detection, Henshaw stored his consciousness in a toy. This toy was later stolen by the Toyman, leading the two villains to join forces to kill Superman. To this end, the Cyborg designed a machine that would break Superman's energy form down into multiple components and beam them to different points in the galaxy, preventing Superman from reforming. A malfunction in the machine caused Superman to split into Superman Blue and Superman Red, the latter of whom eventually defeated and captured the Cyborg.
In a firm sense of irony, Henshaw shared with Superman a crossover encounter with the Fantastic Four, convincing Superman that Galactus was the true ravager of Krypton for a time, the result transformed Superman into the herald of the world devourer for a while. Galactus transformed Henshaw into an inanimate slab of metal after Henshaw demanded he be made his heir, and be made "perfect", since he was half-human, his reduction to this state, void of all human matter, was as perfect as the merciless Galactus could perceive.
He later attempted to take over Kandor, but this failed when he was defeated by Superman and sent to the Phantom Zone. Shortly after Y2K, Henshaw escaped the Phantom Zone and attacked Superman, who was suffering from Kryptonite poisoning at the time. He was defeated with the help of the Kandorians and sent back to the Phantom Zone, swearing revenge. However, he was not encountered on subsequent visits to the Zone.
Henshaw eventually made his way to Sector 3601, to Biot, the homeworld of the Manhunters. He gathered many Green Lanterns who were previously thought to be dead and used them as power sources for his new model of Manhunters, the Highmasters. However, Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner discovered his operation. Jordan and Arisia combined the might of their power rings with one of the Highmasters, destroying the organic portion of Henshaw's body and most of Biot.
The Guardians of the Universe believed that, during Henshaw's time in Sector 3601, he may have discovered one of their closely guarded secrets: the existence of the Multiverse.
Henshaw remained in custody on Oa until he was freed, along with Superboy-Prime, by a strike force of Sinestro Corps members. He was brought to Qward, where he was made into a herald of the Anti-Monitor, along with Superboy and the Parallax-possessed Kyle Rayner.
Since then the Cyborg has made his way to Earth, seeking to take advantage of the absence of the two men in all the universe who have ever been able to truly oppose him. Superman and Hal Jordan.
Characteristics
Age: The Organic components of his bodies tend to look in their early thirties, he was in his 40’s when he first ’ascended’ to his current state. His current body is about 11.
Height: Variable, currently 6’3”
Weight: Variable, currently 225 lb
Eyes: His right is blue, his left is red and glowing.
Hair: Black
Unusual Features: well the left and bottom parts of his face, the right side of his torso and his right thigh are all cybernetics a blend of Kryptonian design.
Personality: Hank is a deeply resentful person, he blames Superman for his condition and this for the death of his wife and two best friends. The friends of superman deserve no less leniency than enablers for a murderer. He hates the self righteous, the fact they cause as much death as they prevent, if not more. Just take the Batman, is he any less guilty than the Joker? These ‘super-humans’ are targets for his rage purely by their existence.
He does revel in combat and more importantly victory, he does though retain a more cerebral side from his life as a mere mortal man, as such he is more than just a bruiser which many forget to their misfortune. He is no doomsday a living bulldozer, as such he prefers ‘appropriate’ or ‘ironic’ victories, really destroying and breaking a person down before killing them; not that he is opposed to vast collateral. Indeed it is positive benefit.
He does possess a sense of humour but since his ’ascension’ it is almost entirely based around the misfortunes of others and destruction.
All in all he has fully embraced his new role, the spreading of fear throughout the universe in his mind is a more than worthy goal and a damn fine way to pass eternity.
Powers
Known Powers:
Electronic Consciousness: Since he is, at the core, an energy being, Henshaw is extremely difficult to permanently destroy, as he can transfer his electronic consciousness into any nearby machine. The maximum distance range of this transfer is unknown, although Henshaw was able to somehow transmit his mind from the 'Cyborg Superman' body on Earth to the tracking device attached to Doomsday, following Reign of the Supermen.
[/li][li]Technopath: Henshaw is able to 'inhabit' any machine or technology and manipulate said devices as though they were living metal. Among other abilities, Henshaw can animate machines, construct any technological device, control any mechanical system (during Reign of the Superman, the Cyborg briefly 'possessed' Steel's armour) and change the shape of the mechanical components of his 'bodies' (most frequently changing one or both of his hands into various energy weapons).
Cyborg Kryptonian Physiology: Thanks to his interactions with Superman's birthing matrix, the Cyborg possesses knowledge of both Superman's Kryptonian genetic code and Kryptonian technology. This information allows the Henshaw to construct bodies with organic portions that are genetically identical to Superman and mechanical components built from Kryptonian alloys. Using Superman's genetic code gives the Cyborg access to all of Superman's powers, including super strength, speed, invulnerability and senses.
[/li][li]Cybernetic Component Alteration: In addition, Henshaw's 'Cyborg' body has a number of other mechanical sensors, can interface with any machine and the technological components can transform into a myriad of weapons and tools; since his first appearance as the Cyborg Superman, Henshaw has consistently used some version of that body. For example he has been shown throwing out mechanical ‘tentacles’ in order to better interface with machinery.
Kryptonian Power-set
A Kryptonian’s body acts as a solar battery; absorbing yellow-sun solar energy which can then be used as various remarkable powers. Using their powers causes them to use up this stored yellow sun energy. A Kryptonian can lose their powers if they expend a lot of energy quickly (e.g. during Superman’s battle with Doomsday). They can also lose their powers if they spend too much time away from a yellow sun while in outer space. When low on solar energy, a Kryptonian can 'recharge' their solar reserves by exposing themselves to a source of yellow sun energy. The rate at which they 'recharge' can vary, based on proximity and other unknown factors. When they have absorbed excess solar energy, their power levels have been above normal until the excess power is burned up.
Strength Level: Capable of lifting any object on earth, and even planetoids with the use of a ‘super-charge’ of solar energy.
Known Abilities: The Cyborg is in possession of immense knowledge of Kryptonian science he also possesses knowledge of Manhunter, Apokoliptian and human technology and can interface with nearly any technology in the universe.
Also considering the shear torment Hank has been through in his existence, his ability to face the impossible and if not triumph and always return to the fight demonstrates a tremendous degree of willpower.
Strength Level: Vast, the equal of superman.
Weaknesses:
On a mental level, he can be to careless, particularly when it comes to physical safety, this can lead to him taking unnecessary risks as he can effectively 'not die'.
Added to this is a near unmatched arrogance and pride in his own abilities which tends to be as much his Achilles heal as Kryptonite.
Misc (optional)
Equipment: Quardian Power ring on his left (Organic) hand;

Sample RP Post
Observe, a familiar caped silhouette floats, high above the earth, appearing to ponder the orb as it spins its lethargic way around Sol. The cast of his jaw seems to exude nobility, he could be a watcher, a guardian, a protector of the entire world.
But he isn’t, something is wrong with the image, the caped shadow is surrounded by a yellow aura, a nimbus of light. Across the galaxy the colour is known, and feared, for it brings a new meaning to the phrase ‘the only thing to fear is fear itself’. Looking closer, the eye we can see is wrong, this cannot be who we expect. It glows a dull red.
Suddenly the figure moves with an acceleration beyond any craft of man, the yellow aura flaring out behind him like a contrail. It’s target is clear, the City where this Man of Tomorrow made his first appearance. Where else should he head apart from Metropolis for his grand entrance.
***
“Look! Up there in the sky!” A pedestrian points to a black speck, high in the sky. The people of Metropolis have taken to looking up in hope since their saviour has departed.
“It’s a bird.” The tone was deriding. It wouldn’t be the first false sighting.
“Naa it’s a plane.” A street vender called as the speck grew in the sky, seeming almost to shine in the sky.
But the first man called out again, undeterred.
“No it’s Super-”
He never finished that sentence, that speck grew with incredible rapidity, glowing the light like second sun. He hit the centre of the cross roads a shock wave of air pressure and solidified fear blasted out and blew every window for two blocks on every direction. Standing in the epicentre of charred, shattered concrete, twisted, semi-molten metal and exploded, flash fried human remains stands Hank Henshaw, the Man of Tomorrow, the Cyborg Superman. With an almost inaudible whir his metallic jaw shifts slightly enhancing its almost skeletal grin. On his chest a new symbol, a sign of his new allegiance.
His voice booms out, the fact it sounds near identical to the Cities alien defender only makes it the more terrifying.
“Hey Metropolis, Superman Returns!” His inhumanly metallic sounding laughter rang across the city.

The rate at which they 'recharge' can vary, based on proximity and other unknown factors. When they have absorbed excess solar energy, their power levels have been above normal until the excess power is burned up.
- Solar Energy Absorption: This is the main source of a Kryptonian’s powers. They constantly absorb solar energy, storing the energy in their unique physiology.
- Superhuman Strength: While the exact magnitude of a Kryptonian's strength is unknown, it is generally accepted that their strength easily surpasses the capacity to lift 1,000,000 tons, but how much more is not known exactly. A Kryptonian’s strength, like their other powers, fluctuates over time. A Kryptonian has also shown the ability to become even stronger when "supercharged". A Kryptonian can possess enough strength to move a small planetoid upon attaining enough solar energy from Earth's yellow sun, but normally are only strong enough to lift any object on earth.
- Invulnerability: A Kryptonian’s body is nigh-invulnerable and they’ve been capable of surviving nuclear explosions. Superman has even been shown withstanding Darkseid's Omega Effect, a feat that was previously considered impossible. In addition, a Kryptonian’s immune system protects them from toxins and diseases. The most common explanations for their invulnerability are having a super-dense molecular structure and/or a supercharged bioelectric "aura" which acts as an invisible "force field" around their bodies within a few millimeters from their skin. The proximity of this field to their skin means that loose clothes, for example, may be burned off, while cloth that is close to their body is protected by the "aura". (This phenomenon is sometimes cited as Superman's reason for wearing a skin-tight bodysuit.) This field has also been implied to unconsciously extend to an undetermined extent to protect a greater area, allowing them to carry huge objects within the Earth's atmosphere and without gravity or inertia tearing them apart.
- Superhuman Stamina: Ability to maintain continuous strenuous physical action for an undefined period. Theoretically, A Kryptonian has unlimited stamina; nourishment coming from the solar energy their cells process. They do, however, have the psychological need to eat and drink just as humans do, though they receive the majority of their nourishment from the Sun. They require sleep on occasion so they can dream. Kryptonian’s can also take deep breaths, oxygenating their blood, enabling them to go for hours without having to breathe.
- Flight: Kryptonian’s can fly through force of will, which enabled them to maneuver precisely in any direction, as well as hover. The mechanism by which they fly is unknown, but some suggestions have been a field of energy allowing unconscious manipulation of gravity or diffract/reflect of gravity due to unidentified Kryptonian organs affected by a yellow sun, or psionic manipulation of a personal anti-gravitational aura, which is also caused by his Kryptonian cells and a yellow sun. A Kryptonian’s speed has been established at being just under the speed of light. A Kryptonian could fly faster in the depths of space due space warps allowing them to traverse intergalactic space.
- Superhuman Speed: A Kryptonian has the ability to move at an incredible speed, like the Flash. This includes running, but flying is less strenuous and more versatile. Their top speed seems to be just under the speed of light. A Kryptonian also possesses superhuman reflexes and the ability to move at incredible speeds by sheer force of will. They can also perform complex actions like assembling objects at hundreds of times faster than a normal human.
- Enhanced Senses: A Kryptonian possesses greatly enhanced senses.
- Telescopic Vision: The ability to "zoom in" the distance to see something at a great distance, without violating the laws of physics. The total telescopic ability is unprecedented, but limited to some extent.
- X-Ray Vision: The ability to see through anything except lead. They can see things behind a wall as if the wall were not there, or can "peel back" layer after layer of matter in their mind. A Kryptonian can focus their vision past layers of matter, literally seeing "through" them -- possibly perceiving x-rays, cosmic rays or other forms of energy invisible to normal human vision which pass through Earth's atmosphere (and solid objects) after emission from stars. Since it is passive, this ability would not generate harmful radiation in the same manner as a focused projection of hard X-rays.
- Microscopic Vision: The ability to see extremely small objects and images down to the atomic level (normal optical microscopes can only see objects down to the size of chromosomes).
- Infrared Vision: The ability to see in total darkness.
- Electro-magnetic Spectrum Vision: A Kryptonian can see well into most of the EM Spectrum. They can see and identify radio/television and any and all broadcast & transmitted frequencies, allowing them to avoid detection through radar or satellite monitoring methods. A Kryptonian can see the paranormal aura that every living thing generates.
- Superhuman Hearing: The ability to hear any sound at any volume or pitch. The only Earth creature who can detect sounds at the frequency he can is a blue whale (0.01-200,000 Hz). He has shown enough control to block out ambient sounds to focus on a specific source/frequency. He can identify a person by their heartbeat, or pick out a single voice in an entire city.
- Telescopic Vision: The ability to "zoom in" the distance to see something at a great distance, without violating the laws of physics. The total telescopic ability is unprecedented, but limited to some extent.
- Heat Vision: The ability to fire beams of intense heat at a target by looking at it with the conscious act of activating this power. Visually, the power is typically depicted as two beams of red light firing from their eyes. These beams can be made invisible, allowing them to work undetected. The maximum temperature of their heat vision is said to be around that of a nuclear detonation. The area of effect can be consciously determined by them, down to the microscopic level. Recent stories imply the precision is so exact it can bypass a target's outer shell (not causing damage to a person's skull for surgical purposes) or even defenses (such as invulnerability or intangibility).
- Super Breath: The ability to create hurricane force winds by blowing, and to chill their breath in order to freeze a target (this latter ability has also been called "freeze breath" and "arctic breath"). A Kryptonian can also breathe in large amounts of air, an ability used when dealing with and disposing things like clouds of poison gas.
- Super Intelligence: Kryptonians are considered geniuses by human standards. They possess a photographic memory, and are capable of easily assimilating and processing all the minutiae of data that they comes across every waking moment, even at super-speeds, with perfect clarity and without confusion.
Weaknesses:
- Magic: Kryptonian’s are vulnerable to magical and psionic effects. Although they are no more detrimentally affected by such effects than a normal human would be, this is a significantly exploitable weakness in comparison to their incredible physical resilience.
- Kryptonite: Since the destruction of Krypton, its remains (rendered radioactive by the explosion) have been spreading throughout the universe as kryptonite, a crystalline substance which has many variants. Exposure to Green Kryptonite instantly expels all of the stored solar energy from a Kryptonians body, rendering them powerless in a matter of seconds and more often than not crumpling them to the ground in pain and making them extremely ill. A long exposure could kill them. In addition exposure causes his cybernetic parts to malfunction and prevents them changing form.
Lead and other similar super-dense materials can block Kryptonite radiation, protecting all exposed - Lengthy, prolonged exposure to Kryptonite radiation is proven to cause cancer in humans. - Lead: A Kryptonian cannot see through lead with their vision powers.
- Solar Energy: Superman will eventually weaken without replenishing his energy reserves with normal (yellow) sun radiation. He is not replenished by red sunlight, and its radiation can be used to weaken him. The storage capacity is sufficient enough to let them function at full capacity for up to 3 days, depending on physical condition and how well rested they are. Unlike Kryptonite this merely weakens the source of power of the Cybernetic components and they are still useable merely to a far lesser effect.
Equipment: Quardian Power ring on his left (Organic) hand;
- Natural Durability and Life Support: When wearing the ring, the wielder has an increased durability and recieves life support functions. This allows the wielder to be about as tough as a iron wall. This can also be increased by surrounding oneself with a force field (found below). The life support function of the ring naturally protects the user from sickness, disease, gases, viruses, etc. Theoretically, a ring wielder could use the ring as his/her/its sole source of life support.
- Energy Constructs: The primary function of the Power Ring is to provide a weapon capable of transforming the wearer's thoughts into physical constructs through the wearer's Mastery over Fear. A Sinestro Corpsman can create any particular items or construct that they can imagine as long as they have the willpower necessary to will it into existence. The constructs are made out of yellow energy, which is a tangible form of pure willpower, and they exist only as long as a Sinestro Corpsman is fuelling it with their mastery of fear. Items created by the rings are not indestructible and are only as powerful as the mastery of fear of the Sinestro Corpsman creating them.
- Energy Absorption and Projection: By will, the ring cab absorb all forms of energy. This energy is not use to recharge the ring, as only the Power Battery can do that. This energy can be released however. The ring can also project any form of energy as a blast. It can even simulate radiation, including Kryptonite.
- Flight: The Power Ring grants a Sinestro Corpsman the ability of flight. Not only is a Sinestro Corpsman capable of flight while in an atmosphere, they are capable of travelling through outer space without risk to themselves. While travelling through space, the ring creates a force field around the wearer, which protects them and allows them to breathe normally. The ring also protects the wearer from the hazards of the void of space including filtration of stellar radiation and microscopic particulate matter, which would ordinarily be fatal, should the space debris strike the ring wielder at high speeds. An atmosphere appropriate to the ring wielder's biology is created inside the force field, body temperature is maintained and waste products are removed. Gravitational stresses, which could cause injury, are stabilized for the ring wielder. Flight is possible at velocities exceeding light speed. In atmospheres, air friction is not a hindrance, since heat is either absorbed or reflected by the ring's field. The power ring grants its wearer access to wormholes in space, enabling the ring wielder to rapidly cut time and distance needed for transport.
- Force Fields: In addition to the natural durability that every Sinestro Corpsman has, the ring can also increase the wearer's protection be creating a skin-tight force field, seen as a Yellow glow surrounding the Sinestro Corpsman. Adding this skin-armour takes a conscious choice, and allows the wearer to take massive amounts of damage. In addition to the skin-armour, force fields can be expanded to protect others, or separate force bubbles or shields can be created.
- Uniforms: The Sinestro Corpsman uniform is not made out of fabric. It is created by the Power Ring whenever the wearer wills to wear it. It automatically appears over the wearer's normal clothing, and vanishes when the wearer wills to return to their civilian attire. Each Sinestro Corpsman is able to adjust their uniform to fit their own needs, personalities and whims.
- Communication: The Power Rings can be used as communicators between Power Ring wearers. Typically a yellow "hologram" of the Sinestro Corpsman you are communicating with appears from within the ring.
- Spirit Travel: Allows the user to separate an "energy self" from the ring-wielder. This energy self can travel billions of times faster than light and perceive surroundings normally.
- Regeneration and Healing: Speeds up the user's natural healing ability 16 times normal, and allows the wielder to heal others.
- Scanning: The ring has a wide range of detection abilities. If it can be conceived it can probably be detected. Most normal electromagnetic phenomena are within the range of the ring, including radio, television, infrared, ultraviolet, and high frequency band communications.
- Dispersal: The Power Ring allows the wearer to pass through certain solid objects, such as walls. Which objects that are not penetrable are not known, but it may depend upon the strength of the wearer's willpower and the density of the object's molecular structure.
- Invisibility and Light Refraction: A ring wielder can render himself invisible by willing the ring to bend light waves around his form, as well as that of the power ring.
- Mind Tampering: As the power ring relies on thought and will to operate, mind tampering is not impossible, the real difficulty lies in properly applying the power. There lies a risk of catastrophic damage to the mind should mistakes be made. A ring wielder can use the power ring to control minds, or even erase portions of an individual's memories. The power ring can also be used to beam information from the ring wielder to another being. Sinestro Corpsman have used this technique to share information regarding their enemies during combat situations.
- Emergency Beacon: A Sinestro Corpsman in distress can use his/her/its power ring as an emergency beacon. The alert can be directed to a Sinestro Corpsman’s neighbouring sector, or it can be a Corps-wide alert.
- Power Ring Duplication: Power Rings are capable of automatically duplicating themselves. Each duplicate typically shares the qualities and capabilities of the original ring. Their ability to inflict damage is limited because each duplicate still requires to be recharged by a personal power battery.
- Omni-Power: All the above powers are actual the most common uses of the Power Ring. The ring can do pretty much anything, based on the wielder's willpower. For instance if needed, the wearer could fuel his willpower straight into strength. Hal Jordan has done this and was nearly as strong as Superman. Less frequently used capabilities include splitting atoms and manipulating sub-atomic particles (effectively producing new elements), and simulating forms of radiation (such as that emitted by green Kryptonite.)
- Artificial Intelligence: Every Power Ring has a connection to the Central Power Battery on Quard which allows the rings to tap into an Artificial Intelligence (AI). The wearer typically interfaces with the AI by addressing the ring verbally, all though it is presumed that the wearer can also silently communicate with the ring through their willpower. The ring can either respond aloud or communicate silently to the wearer.
The Ring's AI has access to a large database of information which can be crucial to the success of a Sinestro Corpsman’s mission. Upon request, all though occasionally without prompting, the ring provides the wearer with important information pertaining to a given situation and may also suggest a useful course of action.
The AI can also perform valuable scans of the wearer's surroundings. The ring apparently passively scans an area of approximately 100 meters around the wearer at all times and warns the wearer of any potential threats. A Sinestro Corpsman’s can actively command the ring's AI to run a scan of a person, place or thing and to provide information on what it has learned.
The AI is capable of translating nearly any alien language into the language of the ring's wearer.
- Recharging the Power Ring: the Sinestro Corpsman’s power ring must be periodically replenished for repeated use. While in the past the ring required to be recharged every 24 hours, the current set of rings hold their charge until it has been depleted by the wearer, which typically occurs every twenty for hours with regular use. A Sinestro Corpsman can address their ring's AI and request a power check in order to determine whether or not they require to recharge their ring.
The power rings are recharged by the Sinestro Corpsman placing their rings into their personal Power Battery and reciting their oath. The Power Battery's themselves can be disguised and hidden by being turned invisible by its Sinestro Corpsman owner. Sinestro Corpsman can also charge from a convenient Manhunter, each of which contain a power battery. - Psychic Backlash: Despite even the greatest of wills, sometimes a ring construct can be broken. It may seem a mere annoyance to a ring wielder, but in reality it could prove quite deadly. A ring wielder links his/her/itself to the power, a psychic backlash occurs immediately after the disruption of a ring generated construct. The backlash can be very painful and disorienting but leaves no permanent damage to the ring wielder. The real danger to the ring wielder is the split seconds of incapacitation, leaving him/her/it vulnerable to attack.
