History
Henry "Hank" King is the son of two Golden Age players: the longtime JSA foe Brain Wave (Henry King) and Merry Pemberton. He was conceived during the brief time when the Brain Wave had reformed his criminal ways. Upon the elder King's relapse however, Hank's mother disappeared. He was told that Merry had committed suicide, but her true course of action remains a mystery.
Hank ultimately chose to follow the path of good, and aligned himself with the young heroes of Infinity, Inc. During the run of Infinity, Inc. Brainwave develops a relationship with fellow team member Jade, daughter of Green Lantern. In their first case, Hank's father again repented with his dying breath. King Sr. sacrificed his life and bestowed Hank with his own mental powers to defeat the Ultra-Humanite. This may have been Hank's undoing: in the years to come, his father's evil legacy would blur the line between good and evil for Hank. His enhanced powers made him certain that his father had transferred his personality into him - and that he wanted him to turn evil. He even started to shave his head and wear sunglasses looking like his father's glasses.
His increased mental powers put a strain on his romantic relationship with fellow teammate, Jade. After the team's breakup, Hank snapped from the guilt of his father's evil and founded the villainous Legion of Doom. He attacked the Justice League and was ultimately stopped by Maxima's mental abilities and placed in treatment.
In the mental institution, especially created for him and funded by Alan Scott, he is severely unhinged, and is almost killed by Obsidian. He appears again later in New York City, causing riots and general chaos with his telepathy, even mind controlling Jade and Green Lantern (Alan Scott) until finally confronting Kyle Rayner. He leaves peacefully.
Brainwave then joined Black Adam, Atom-Smasher and Northwind in an assault on one of Kobra's secret bases. After capturing the villain, Kobra threatened the group, saying that if his heart stopped a detonator would level half of Manhattan. Using his abilities, Brainwave determined Kobra was bluffing. Adam then tore Kobra's heart from his chest.
Black Adam then led Northwind, Brainwave, Atom-Smasher, Eclipso and Nemesis into Kahndaq. The metahuman force made short work of the military, and under Adam's instructions, Atom Smasher killed the country's dictator. Adam then liberated the country under his control.
As expected, Adam learned that the JSA was on their way to Kahndaq. As their ship entered Khandaq airspace, Adam had Brainwave send his former teamates one warning to turn back. When they refused, Adam led his team into action against the JSA. Aided by both the people of Khandaq as well as Northwind's people, Adam's forces easily captured the JSA.
Afterwards, Adam had Brainwave help him interrogate Captain Marvel. Brainwave forced Marvel to say Shazam and turn into Billy Batson. Brainwave realized that Nemesis and Eclipso's brain functions had ceased. He and Adam went to investigate and found themselves facing the JSA. After a brief battle, Black Adam and Brainwave departed and not much of them has been seen since, but apparently they are still working together.
Characteristics
Age: 29
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 172lbs
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Red
Unusual Features: None
Personality: Hank King, while very kind and relatively humble, is quite a fast-talker--though not in the sense of a scam. Instead, he seemed compelled to always provide witty banter to fill awkward moments of silence. This stopped when his father transferred his powers and memories to Hank. At this point, he became increasingly more villainous.
Brainwave is a ruthless man who has no compunctions about ruining the lives of others to get what he wants. He prefers to operate in the shadows, letting lackeys and unsuspecting dupes do his dirty work. He is arrogant and confident. He rules any underlings with an absolute stranglehold.
He is a genius, and his plans are very elaborate, on many levels, and there's much more behind the apparent mayhem than one might be led to think. His speech also, using certain sentences and phrases, bears a slight notice of classic English. Like all good masterminds, he loves to gloat. Ultimately, all of his plans shall lead to one goal only: the conquering and ruling of a world filled with powerful individuals.
Powers
Born a mutant like his father, Hank possesses the power of telepathy and telekinesis. When his father died, all of his mental powers were transferred to Hank, making him one of the most powerful telepaths on earth! Hank also possesses the power to project realistic three-dimensional images, and to project powerful beams of pure energy from his forehead with the intensity of a laser beam.
Known Powers:
Telepathy – Brainwave is one of the strongest telepaths on earth. He can dominate many minds at once and cause people too see illusions or even have complete control over them. Proximity is key to the effectiveness of mind control and illusions. It is said that even strong wills cannot resist him when he is right next to them. While many telepaths filter out the thoughts of others, he allows the millions of minds he constantly comes across to flow freely through his mind.
Telekinesis – He can he can lift, move, and alter objects with his mind. The amount of weight he can control is about 10,000lbs. He can project controlled objects at velocities faster than the speed of sound and can control a vast number at a time with master control over them. He can use his telekinesis to manipulate the actions of people, as well as affect the insides of their body.
This power can be manifested in the following ways:
Superhuman intellect – Brainwave is also a genius and capable of creating advanced technology, such as space stations, shrink rays, etc.
Known Abilities:An athlete in college, Brainwave is in excellent physical condition and a skilled hand-to-hand combatant.
Brainwave possesses advanced knowledge of Electronics, Mechanics, Computers, Physics, Chemistry, and is a highly skilled inventor.
Strength Level: Above average for a normal human.
Weaknesses: When his shields are down, he has normal human durability and can be affected by all the standard things, such as punches, bullets, stabs, etc.
His telepathy can be resisted easier when the target is farther away.
He has a public ID, so can be exploited with that.
Mentally unstable and has traumatic flashbacks that are set off by extreme stress.
Hank's link to his father had had some ill effects on his psyche. These appear to have manifested themselves as certain would-be-world-conqueror traits, not unlike those identified with his father.

While many telepaths filter out the thoughts of others, he allows the millions of minds he constantly comes across to flow freely through his mind.
- Telepathic Cloak: He can mask his presence and the use of his abilities from being detected by other mentalists and psychic users. He can extend these defenses to others around him as well. Cloaking via telepathy is not perfect and powerful Psi’s may notice and 'see' through this ability.
- Telepathic Tracking: His psionic senses enable him to detect and track other sentient beings by their unique psionic emanations (thought patterns contained in the psionic portion of the spectrum). He can use this ability to locate individuals and has searched out a specific mind on the planet.
- Psionic Shield: Ability to erect a psychic shield for protection of himself and of others minds. This is an ability he can project vast distances. This also alerts him when someone else is attempting to read or control his mind.
- Mind Control: He is capable of controlling the minds of others. It can be easily used on non-enhanced minds, such as most humans, and used even on the most powerful minds, even one such as Captain Marvel, when in close proximity.
- Mental Illusions: Hank can project realistic three-dimensional images. These seem real to the person seeing them (if they cannot resist his power) and can cause real harm and damage if they target believes in the illusion. If the targets were to be hit, or suffer damage, they would think it and feel it, and act accordingly. If they were to die, they would go into a coma from the shock.
- Psionic Blasts: He can project psionic force bolts which have no physical effects but can affect a victim's mind so as to cause the victim pain or unconsciousness, or worse, death.
- Heal Trauma: The ability to erase a person’s memories and to heal mental trauma through “psychic surgery,” the power to stimulate or deaden the pain and pleasure centers in a persons brain.
- Telekinetic Force Field: He usually protects himself with a personal force field that he can quickly expand to protect large areas. His force field is about equal to steel and would repel bullets and high-impact explosives.
- Telekinetic Force Bolts: He can use his telekinesis to project kinetic energy. The power of this energy is capable of destroying a small concrete building or even knocking a hole in a 6" steel wall.
Superhuman intellect – Brainwave is also a genius and capable of creating advanced technology, such as space stations, shrink rays, etc.
