History
Dr. Pamela Lillian Isley, a botanist from Seattle, was once a very intelligent, yet naive, college student who knew just about everything about plants. That is, until her professor, Dr. Jason Woodrue (aka Floronic Man) conducted experiments upon her by seducing her with words of love. The experiments placed toxins in her blood stream that make her touch deadly and allow her to be immune to all poisons, viruses, bacteria, and fungi. The experiments also allowed her to produce mind-control pheromones that drove men wild at her touch. They also made her barren, and she has treated her plants as children, mothering them, ever since.
Woodrue fled the authorities, leaving Pamela in the hospital for six months. Enraged at the betrayal, Pamela suffered violent mood swings. After her boyfriend got into a car accident after mysteriously suffering from a massive fungal overgrowth, Isley dropped out of school and left Seattle, eventually setting roots down in Gotham City.
Her first act: threatening to release her deadly spores into the air unless the city met her demands. Thus, she became infamous as Poison Ivy. The Batman, who had appeared in Gotham that very same year, subdued her and thwarted her scheme, resulting in her incarceration in Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane. Despite Gotham's perpetual night, Ivy remained. As the years went on, the naïveté of Pamela Isley faded as the hardness that comes with a criminal lifestyle progressed. She would become more plant-like year by year. To this day, over a decade later, she still remains a thorn in Batman's side.
A few years later, she would try to leave Gotham forever, escaping Arkham to settle on a desert island in the Caribbean. She molded the barren wasteland into a second Eden, and was, for the first time in her life, happy. It was soon firebombed, however, when an American-owned corporation tested their weapons systems out on what they thought was an abandoned island. Ivy then returned to Gotham with a vengeance, punishing those responsible. After willing apprehension by Batman, she resolved that she could never leave Gotham, at least not until the world was safe for plants. From then on, she dedicated herself to the impossible mission of purifying Gotham (considered the most polluted city in America).
In some adaptations she can control plants. For example, in Arkham Asylum: Living Hell she was able to manipulate plants telepathically, using roots to form supports for a tunnel she and another inmate named Magpie were digging to escape, and also spawning glowing fungi to entertain Magpie.
Being physically attractive, Ivy is known to be able to seduce men and women alike, often using plant pheromones to do so. She specializes in hybrids and can create the most potently powerful toxins in Gotham City. In the comics and the 1997 film Batman And Robin, the toxins her body produces are often administered to victims with a kiss. In Batman: The Animated Series, her only physical power is an immunity to poison, as well as varying degrees of chlorokinesis, and when using a poisoned kiss, she uses lipstick poisoned by toxins extracted from a plant.
Poison Ivy was a member of the original Injustice Gang of the World, which fought the Justice League on several occasions. She also joined the Secret Society of Super-Villains for a mission against the Justice League. Years later, she was coerced into being a member of the Suicide Squad. During this time she used her abilities to enslave Count Vertigo.
She also has been friends with The Joker's sidekick Harley Quinn. Unlike most villain team-ups, their partnership seems to be genuinely rooted in friendship, and Ivy really wants to save Harley from her abusive relationship with The Joker.
Another positive side of her was shown when she took care of some children after an earthquake that leveled Gotham City left them orphans. They resided in Robinson Park, which had been a polluted haven for junkies and prostitutes before Ivy arrived. She came to love the children like sons and daughters, protecting them from danger. After Gotham City reopened to the public, the city wanted to evict her from the park and send her back to Arkham Asylum. They also mistakenly believed that the orphans in Ivy's care were unwilling hostages. The Gotham City Police Department threatened to spray the park with a powerful herbicide that most certainly would have killed every living plant in the park, including Ivy, and more than likely do harm to the children as well. Ivy refused to leave the park to the city and let them destroy the Eden she had created, so she chose martyrdom. It was only after Rose, one of the orphans, was accidentally poisoned by Ivy that the hardened eco-terrorist surrendered herself to the authorities in order to save Rose's life. Batman stated that Ivy was still more plant than human.
Poison Ivy recently came to believe that her powers were killing the children she looked after, so she got Batman to reverse her powers and make her a normal human being once more. Soon after she was convinced by Hush to take another serum to restore her powers and apparently died in the process. However, when her grave was visited it was covered with vine and ivy, creating the impression her death would be short-lived. A short time later Poison Ivy returned in Gotham Central #32 , killing some corrupt cops who killed one of her orphans, though whether this takes place before or after the aforementioned storyline is unknown.
Characteristics
Age: Late 20's.
Height: 5'6”
Weight: 133lbs
Eyes: Green
Hair: Chestnut
Unusual Features: Blood replaced by chlorophyll, man-maddening pheromones and natural toxins.
Personality: Ivy can seem complex and ambivalent, or the simplest creature in the world, depending on one's frame of reference. By human standards, she is a ruthless killer ("of the second order," she might add, "I kill only killers"), a worldly-wise seductress, and a painfully naive child, all at the same time. This may also be the reason why she stopped thinking of herself in human terms — they just don't seem to form a coherent frame of reference... after her personal vendetta of seducing and ultimately betraying and hurting men just as she was seduced and hurt, Ivy finally moved on to deeper meaning. By denying all that is human inside her, she was able to negate the part of her she perceives as weak, as vulnerable, naive. The part of her that was betrayed, hurt, and abused. The new part that had risen from the ashes of her former self like the phoenix of yore was something else. Beautiful, enticing and lethal, it was predator rather than prey, the shape of revenge — revenge for her former, weaker self as well as her more stationary brethren. As she found meaning in protecting those she cared for and safety in her powers, she eventually managed to open up to humans as well, reluctantly accepting children into her park at first, and finally an almost-equal in the shape of Harley Quinn, a kindred spirit who had also been betrayed and abused by the man she loved.
Powers
Known Powers:
Known Abilities:
Strength Level: Slightly below average for a woman of her physique.
Weaknesses:
Misc (optional)
Equipment: Laboratory: When not incarcerated, Ivy will often set up a lab to facilitate her botanical studies and the production of any potions a particular plan may require. In the past, she was often able to chemically or genetically recreate some of her powers. Examples of this would be a super-fertilizer mimicking Ivy's plant growth power, genetically enhanced nightshades to enthrall people, or potions to heal, kill, or seduce. It was also with one of these potions that Ivy was able to "upgrade" Harley Quinn, granting her increased agility and strength as well as immunity to Ivy's touch.
Transportation: Ivy is usually seen traveling with the aide of her plants.
Weapons: Ivy rarely employs weapons these days, prefering to use nearby plants (or grow new ones from seeds she carries) or the more mobile plant-hybrids. If push comes to shove and ranged attacks must be made, Ivy has a variety of slightly luddite options, among them a crossbow and poisoned darts to be thrown or launched with a blowpipe. Enemies are bound with a — sometimes barbed — liana lasso. Finally, her fingernails are sharp as thorns and well suited to introduce toxins into the bloodstream of any attacker reckless enough to enter into close quarters combat.

Powers
Known Powers:
- Plant control, Growth, and Empathy
Ivy can control local plant life. A tree may attack another character with its branches, or a vine may try to wrap itself around them. This is of course also the prime mechanic between the popular "floral lift" entrance. Much as one would expect from the name, Ivy has the power to dramatically accelerate the growth rate of plants. This is not only handy as then scenes with Ivy will take minutes rather than years, it also seals locations, doubles as an impromptu fence or Spanish wall, eases the climbing of walls and of course, is popular with fans and reporters alike. Ivy tends to have an alarmingly good idea of what is going on in her gardens, and some people have gone so far as to suggest that not only does she talk to the green, but that the green actually replies in mysterious ways. And maybe the plants do indeed love and understand her — how else could she control them so well? Whatever the true nature of this gift may be, however this information may be transferred, one thing is certain: Ivy can feel people in the green, she can feel the footsteps on the grass and the forms passing through the thickets. Especially in forests and jungles with heavy undergrowth where vision is limited, this gives her a significant tactical advantage to all but airborne intruders, and she can usually easily avoid or surprise them. - Systemic antidote
Barely human anymore and with a metabolism that utilizes a bouquet of substances lethal to mere mortals, Ivy is immune to virtually anything humans might consider lethal including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and all forms of poison. - Poison touch
Ever since the fateful experiment, Ivy's skin has been poisonous to humans; one touch could kill (and it probably will, if not treated immediately by a trained professional). Most people would consider this a curse rather than a power. Ivy can make a conscious effort to will her metabolism to change; her kiss can control, kill, or cure. Her touch can "catalyze violent mood alterations," "electric jolt, overwhelming stupor, loss of focus," or make men fall madly in love with her. As far as inebriation and infatuation are concerned, a cold shower or sudden intense pain may break through the stupor, but the only way to break out of it for long, for sure, is indeed a visit to the hospital — or the BatCave. - Presence
Ivy's body produces sufficient pheromones to give her a stunning presence beyond the loveliness of her shape. She is beyond gorgeous. When she enters the room, all conversation stops. She is the kind of woman everybody is single around. Every heart pounds, every pickup line is forgotten... Even the Batman had to admit that her very essence affected him "from across the room, electric, pulsating..." For obvious reasons, this effect is more noticable in confined spaces and increases with proximity. - Wall-climbing
Ivy can easily climb walls and trees without any additional gear. To this end, she can use the same technique as her namesake, while also suffering from the same limitations: an uneven or porous surface for her extremities to attach to is required. Glass fronts or buildings aluminium casing consequently present insurmountable obstacles to her.
Known Abilities:
- Botany
Pamela Isley majored in botany, the study of the growth, reproduction, metabolism, evolution, and diseases of plants, including "plant-like" like fungi, algae, bacteria and viruses. Her studies ranged from the molecular, genetic and biochemical level through to cells, tissues and the biodiversity of whole plants to populations, communities and whole ecosystems at the macroscopic level. Having far surpassed the level of the scholar, Ivy has advanced, if not altogether voluntarily, to the status of an insider, one with an intuitive grasp of the knowledge, the heritage, the art. If it can be done, Ivy is the one who can do it. - Toxicology
In an attempt to understand her condition better as well as a catalyst to her schemes and a logical extension of her major, Ivy has also looked into toxicology.
She particularly enjoys the irony of indirect poisons and the challenge of designer toxins specifically attuned to the target's liver enzymes. - Gadgetry
When it comes to building laboratories for botanical experiments, Ivy has the skill, the knowledge, and the intuition. Coupled with the resources and her powers to tip the scales in those critical fractions of an experiment in her favour, there are few setups Ivy could not make real. - Martial arts
Armed with the deadly reflexes of the flytrap, Ivy may have the speed, but when compared to most of the vigilantes, she does not have much in the way of technique or experience, and will likely eventually lose to any fighter of name who is not susceptible to her charms — but she will look so graceful doing it!
Strength Level: Slightly below average for a woman of her physique.
Weaknesses:
- Intimacy
Her first love betrayed her in ways most horrible. Then the Batman, perhaps the last honest man as far as she's concerned, the only one she might dare trust, rejected her. Wary of relationships she does not control, Ivy's encounters range from the victims of her love potions to the children she accepted into her Eden of Robinson Park. Even at her most seductive, she remains mysterious and aloof, never quite committing herself. Her new-found friendship with Harley Quinn is perhaps the closest she got to a balanced relationship ever since she became Poison Ivy — and if the Joker's ex-girlfriend is your best shot at sanity, you're in trouble... - Complexion
Ivy's complexion ranges from very pale with a greenish cast just in a certain light to outright verdant. When her floral side is strong, she is easily recognizable as not quite human, and anyone who has heard of her even in hearsay will be able to make the connection. To those under her spell, she will of course appear all the more exotic and attractive for it.
Poison may use body makeup to hide her verdant skin. - Care
While Ivy may occasionally plot to obtain new funds, that's just a means to an end these days. It's not really about the money anymore. It's not even about the Batman anymore, not just the thrill of the chase. When it comes right down to it, it's about ending the pain, about being able to protect her loved ones, loved ones that enjoy no protection from the law, loved ones that for the most part need to remain out in the open to prosper, open to the sun and random attacks.
Ivy's plants cannot easily be shunt away when under attack, and Ivy will remain to protect her "babies" as a matter of instinct, usually even if this will ruin her plans. - Obsession
Not quite as detached from the realm of human emotion as she might seem to be, Ivy is fascinated with the Batman. He stands up for what he believes in — and he can stand up to her. He is both dangerous and fascinating in the way he is beyond her control, and there seems to be a vague kinship between the two, the way they both chose a clod and swore to protect those within that realm. It's a mystery how he just can't see it. He of all people should be able to understand, to appreciate her. To offer absolution, tell her it will be alright. Talking to plants really does them a world of good, you see. - Metabolism
While most things considered toxic and virulent to humans cannot harm her, salt, lack of sunlight or water will weaken and finally kill her like they would any other plant.
