It's the one word you could've used to describe Jason Todd when Batman first discovered the youth during his attempt to strip the tires off of the Batmobile, and it's the one word you can use to describe Jason Todd now as he acts out against his adoptive father in the guise of the overly violent, gun toting vigilante known as the Red Hood. At his core, Jason is an individual who longs for a place to belong. This longing has caused him to act out recklessly in effort to prove himself in the past, be it outright disregarding orders from Batman, or being far too aggressive in the handling of criminals. His role as the second Robin and the constant pressure (or what he felt was pressure) to be just like Dick Grayson played a role in his constant state of aggression, despite Grayson's attempts to warm up and help Jason fit in within the Bat-Family. His negative emotions were only compounded after his death at the hands of the Joker, his subsequent revival at the hands of Superboy-Prime's reality alteration, and what could be lasting psychological damage due to his restoration via the Lazarus Pit at the hands of Talia Al Ghul. While there's part of Jason who actually does care about the Bat-Family, he has become angry and bitter over the fact that his murder at the hands of the Joker went, in his mind, unpunished, as he felt his death should've resulted in the death of the Joker. This, in turn, has caused Jason to take up vigilante justice as he was once trained to do, but utilizing far more aggressive methods than he was trained to by Batman. In his mind, Bruce's methods have failed, and he's an example of that, and it's time to try a different approach to crime, which at one point lead him to attempt to control crime within Gotham outright, though now it's lead to a more violent approach to Batman's method of vigilante justice. His pride is out on the line as he attempts to prove that he's not just Batman's equal, but his superior, and as he attempts to prove to himself that he has a legitimate place in the world and not just some throwaway orphan. DOCUMENTED HISTORY Raised in the slums of Gotham City, Jason Todd was a dark haired boy and the son of a petty criminal named Willis Todd. Eventually, Willis was sent to prison and never returned despite earning his release after a few years. This left Jason with Catherine Todd, a drug addicted woman he did not know was not truly his biological mother. In order to survive and for his so-called mother's habit, Jason turned to crime, ripping off car parts for money. Catherine soon died from a drug overdose, and Willis had disappeared after screwing up a job for Two-Face. Jason was left alone on the streets, still stealing from parts of cars for cash. This led to Batman discovering Jason stealing the tires off the Batmobile. Bruce Wayne tried to put Jason in a home for troubled youths but simply could not keep him there. With that option off the table, Bruce took him in and began training him to replace Dick Grayson as Robin. He did not have Dick's cheerful enthusiasm or natural acrobatic skill, but life had made him tough and full of sarcastic wit. Secretly, Bruce believed that had he not taken Jason into his home then in a few years time he would be taking Jason in to the police as Batman. So instead, Jason became a new Robin. In the last part of A Death in the Family, Jason Todd (as Robin) is beaten to near death and confined in a cabin with a ticking time-bomb. Jason and his mother are unable to stop the bomb and they both are killed in the explosion. He would eventually be revived from death at the hands of Superboy-Prime before being discovered by Talia Al Ghul, who aided in his recovery. He eventually wandered the world, learning from many of the teachers Bruce Wayne studied under, and killing many of them for their various crimes before returning to Gotham City and adopting the former mantle of his greatest fear, the Red Hood, using the guise to dish out his own brand of vigilante justice. Following Bruce Wayne's apparent death, Red Hood partnered Robin to help quell the rising gang violence in Gotham before coming to the conclusion that Gotham City needed a Batman and rebranded himself as the Dark Knight with a far more violent slant. This put him into conflict with the Batman Family until he was ultimately defeated by Dick Grayson, who then became Batman himself. He would eventually return, along with his own personal sidekick in Scarlett, whom he would rescue from Professor Pyg. His increased pressure on criminals caused the underworld to send the assassin, the Flamingo, after Red Hood. During the encounter, Red Hood was nearly killed, only to be rescued by the new Batman and Robin. He was subsequently jailed and put on trial for the various crimes he committed as Red Hood. He was jailed in Arkham Asylum, though after various protests on his part and psychological analysis, Red Hood was deemed sane and sent to Blackgate. Inside, he started to kill high profile criminals before being caught after poisoning 82 individuals, and was transferred back to Arkham. On route, his transport was attacked and hijacked by a gang of metahuman criminals who set out to capture him as a gift for their employer. With the timely arrival of Batman and Robin, Red Hood was able to escape capture, but was forced to team up with Dick and Damian to rescue his partner and sidekick, Scarlett. The impromptu trio managed to fend off the gang and rescue Scarlett and set out to return Jason back to prison, but he managed to escape by distracting Batman and Robin with the threat of explosives scattered around the city. POWERS AND ABILITIES KNOWN POWERS: None KNOWN ABILITIES: Red Hood doesn't possess any sort of extra-normal physical or supernatural abilities. Everything he can do is the byproduct of physical laboring and hard work.
STRENGTH LEVEL: Athletic WEAKNESSES: Aside from inheriting all of the flaws of being baseline human, Jason can be highly emotional at times, leading to brash, reckless decisions that can be taken advantage of. Pray upon his emotions and he is easy pickings. PARAPHERNALIA EQUIPMENT: Ballistic Combat Suit: Originally, Red Hood wore jeans, a t-shirt, a leather jacket, and a solid red helmet given to him by Talia al Ghul when he started his career as the Red Hood, and over time, he's upgraded. His current suit is similar to that of Batman's, consisting of a full body, two piece suit made of a variety of materials, including kelvar fibers and the newer "dragon skin" body armor. The suit and boots are reinforced at the wrists and ankles to provide extra support during movement and combat. The suit is capable of absorbing small arms fire, and is fire and temperature resistant, allowing him to operate in all manner of environments. Utility Belt and Leather Jacket: Not as bulky as the one's employed by Batman, Robin, and Batgirl, Red Hood's belt serves the same purpose in holding a variety of tools Red Hood may need. While the majority of his armaments are military equipment, he does have in his possession gadgets that operate similar to Batman's, thanks in part to Talia al Ghul giving him a portion of the weapons caches acquired from Kord Industries. Although unassuming, Red Hood's leather jacket has been modified to contain a variety of pouches to make up for the room his utility belt lacks. The items he commonly employs are:
If Blue Beetle used it as he fought crime, it's a safe bet that Red Hood has it. Of course, since he's not as inventive as either Ted Kord or Bruce Wayne, a lot of the high tech devices are in short supply and are rationed extensively. Red Mask: Red Hood previously employed solid red, oftentimes boobytrapped helmets, but has transitioned to a solid red cowl, similar in make to Batman's or Batgirl's. The cowl is lightly armored, impregnated with lead to inhibit X-Ray scanning, and contains various sensory and auditory equipment similar to those included in the equipment of the less fringe members of the Batfamily, including night-enhancing vision, and a transmitting comm-link, which can use to listen in to various communication channels. TRANSPORTATION: Standard retail motorcycles and cars. WEAPONS: Due to the fact that Jason's arsenal tends to be military grade firearms, the sheer amount of weapons he actually employs is quite vast. The more common weapons are:
