ALIGNMENT: Good AFFILIATION(S): Bat family, Justice League, teen titans PHYSICAL PROFILE HEIGHT: 5’ 10” WEIGHT: 175 EYES: Blue HAIR: Raven black CLASSFICATION: Human UNUSUAL FEATURES: His body is covered in scars from his confrontations with villains BEHAVIOR PROFILE Dick Grayson is a serious but easy going young man in his early to 20s. He's in a way the perfect big brother and the nicest, most popular guy in the group. He will approach everything with the confidence born of amazing talent and incredible training; yet manage to never seem pretentious in the slightest, always caring for others and being genuinely attentive. At times, a casual observer might think his Motivation is Thrill of Adventure - he finds rooftop acrobatics or driving the Nightbird just plain *fun*, gets an obvious sense of satisfaction from bringing justice and happiness to the people, and has always some light banter ready for combat - although he's not a motor-mouth like Booster Gold, or even Roy Harper, he usually seems very relaxed when doing the vigilante thing. However, what actually makes him tick is a deep, burning desire to make the world a better, safer place where justice actually exists. Like the Batman, he wants no kid to ever suffer the losses he went through; unlike the Batman he does not see the world as a cruel and harsh place, but remembers the wonderful childhood he had. This profound difference in their memories of the time before the loss let Nightwing fight for a better, safer world for honest peoples around him while his former mentor fight to crush evil. While Batman follows his own obsessive rules, Nightwing is actually sane and a part of society. Like the Batman, he has a very strong "nobody dies on my watch" code. Nightwing's courage is amazing - he has faced so much danger and monstrous opponents straight from a nightmare since his early teens that he seem to be fearless and take physical pain in strike without resenting it. To him it's a mere part of his job, and he can actually defy physical or mental torture with a smile. Even when badly hurt, he'll still act in a stalwart and generous way, saving innocents and bearing little grudge. Likewise, although his life has been a terrifying emotional grinder, he's outgoing, gentle and well-adjusted. Nightwing cares a lot for Tim Drake - although he never treats him as a kid, he knows Tim is the closest thing to a little brother he will ever have. He enjoys teaming up with him, and will help to train him when he can, usually running Tim through old training routines the Batman devised for the first Robin. They have clear chemistry and respect between them. His relationship with the Batman has changed over the years. It was initially rather complicated - Bruce Wayne simply did not have the tools to express how much he cared for the young man who is for all intend and purpose his son, and Nightwing always felt in the shadow of his formidable 'father'. They were awkwardly and silently defensive toward each other, with a lot of things left unsaid. However when Batman had bee missing, and Dick took over the mantle of the Batman, and Bruce returned, the relationship changed. Bruce allowed Nightwing to remain Batman, even joining the JLA. This showed Nightwing that he truly was considered an equal with Batman, and had finally left the shadow. The two work like clockwork together, and will fight along with each other in a heartbeat. Despite being a huge hit with the ladies with his attractiveness, confidence and boy next door charm, his romantic life keeps turning into a minefield through little fault of his own. He keeps trying, though and has an easy, flattering, gently flirting manner. Drive: The part of a man that motivates him and keeps him going usually defines his level of success. Dick has grown up with a heaping dose of motivation, and it usually takes true futility to make him quit. If they're dead, he'll accept that he can't bring them back to life. If they're driving away and he's on foot, he'll give up running after them...for now. Maybe. He is just not the kind of guy to take 'no' for an answer, instead mentally translating it as 'not yet'. Nice: Unlike some other dark vigilantes of the night, Nightwing likes to smile and chitchat with people. He allows others to see when he cares, and is less likely to hold a grudge against someone for trying to knock his head off if he knows they believe their life depends on robbing that store or not getting locked up. He isn't prone to taking out his frustrations on people physically (though he might yell at them), and is definitely the kind of guy who'd give a dollar to someone who's down on their luck. Charming: With his good-natured humor, tendency to express himself sincerely, and kindness, Dick possesses a natural charm that tends to win him friends easily. He respects the qualities of others and tolerates common flaws, and in the end it's his acceptance of those who mean well and genuine concern for the welfare of others that speaks for him most. People like Dick because he likes them too, speaks to them tactfully, and treats them well. Tough: Dick has taken quite a few beatings in his life. He's dealt with many failures, too. Somehow it never breaks him and just makes him stronger. Inevitably when faced with some kind of let-down or challenge he mopes about it for a while and then decides to grow past it. It's not at all impossible to knock Dick down, but it is very hard to keep him down. Youthful: While he may be considered an adult, Dick has trouble hiding the fact that there is still a boy inside that runs the show now and then. He likes to have fun. He likes to go fast. He loves cool toys, and isn't at all ashamed of those things. Sure, he takes things seriously, but he somehow manages not to take them seriously all the time, or at least allows himself to see the absurdity and fun in life. Dick being jaded does happen, but typically it's a temporary condition that ends before he's managed to ruin his ability to smile. Empathy: One of the traits that really made Dick (as Robin) a good foil for Batman's dour attitude is his inherent empathy. Dick sympathizes with people, sometimes even the bad ones. It's a function of his fundamental goodness that he can't just not give a damn about people. This of course especially extends to his friends and family, and often Dick finds himself in the role of mediator because he's the guy that understands where everybody's coming from even when they can only see the world from their own positions. Hero: It's in his blood now. Dick couldn't NOT be a superhero, or rooftop vigilante, or whatever you want to call it. He'd pay money for the privilege to do it if he had to. Though over the years he has been an acrobat, a student, a police officer, those were all 'day jobs' compared to this, his life's calling as surely as any priest is truly called to the clergy. Being Robin filled a void in his spirit that may have been bigger even than the one left by his parents. Today it's about being Nightwing. He'll just never give it up. Smartass: Not only does Dick have a healthy sense of humor, he also knows how to use it. Making smart-assed remarks to people can have a definite effect, and though he does enjoy it he's also learned how to use it as a tool to manipulate others. This especially goes for bad guys, who have a habit of being too proud of themselves or beset by some mental instabilities that make them sensitive to verbal attacks. The right taunt here or there is sometimes enough to goad someone into making a mistake. Strangely Dick seems good enough at judging his audience that he seldom mistakenly hurts anybody's feelings he doesn't mean to. It's probably because he's constantly concerned with how others are doing. Restless: Put Dick alone in a room with no way out and he'll immediately waste a whole lot of time trying to get out. God could make the room and tell Dick there's no way out, and he'd still act the same. Once he's done wasting time trying to get out, he'd fidget. A lot. And he'd probably go insane after enough fidgeting, talking to himself, singing to himself, and trying to get out some more to drive anybody else insane. Dick just does not do 'idle' well. If he has nothing to do, he'll find something to do. He'll make something up. Even vacation and 'time off' for him (as rare as it is) consists of being active in some way. In his limited leisure time he travels or explores or parties or something, or most often just does pending work. Anything but just sit there. Hard: There are times when being nice doesn't cut it. When the evidence points you toward a culprit who protests all the way that they are innocent and you're persecuting them, it takes a steel edge to learn that some people are just that persistent about lying. When you know that Mr. Freeze is trying to put all of Gotham into a new ice age and it's because he is a brokenhearted man suffering from extreme loss and depression, it takes a surprising amount of 'I don't care' to push past that sometimes and kick his butt. It's something that Dick really learned thanks to Bruce, that sometimes it is absolutely vital that you be hard and do what needs doing, damn the circumstances. Creative: Flexible of body, flexible of mind, Dick is not one to be constrained by 'the box' in which most people think. He's very good at using the surroundings, personal information, some tidbit he watched on TV, or even something he learned in a Trivial Pursuit game five years ago to help him get through a problem. If it takes MacGuyver to solve a situation, then he's MacGuyver. For this reason he's also eager to learn and do new things, because one just never knows when some apparently trivial thing will become useful in the future. They were famous for their trapeze and acrobatic acts in the circus and where the headlining act. When Dick was eight years old he witnessed the mob boss Anthony Zucco trying to extort the owner of the circus. The mob boss was demanding money to insure the safety of his performers. The owner of the circus refused to be extorted by the mob and Dick went his way. Anthony Zucco had other plans. He was going to make a example out of the leading act, the flying Graysons. During their act, the trapeze wires where sabotaged. As his parents fell to their deaths, hundreds of spectators could only watch in horror. Among the audience was Bruce Wayne. Feeling empathy for the young boy, Bruce Wayne took him in since none of Dick’s family would take him in. The difference between Bruce and Dick was that Bruce wanted vengeance for the death of his family while Dick wanted justice. This helped him deal with the death of his parents. After staying with Bruce for a while, Dick figured out what he was doing all these nights. He figured out that Bruce Wayne was actually Batman. Dick wanted to be trained and be the same as Bruce. Bruce decided that with the boy’s training and sense for justice he had everything he needed to be his partner. After training with Bruce he became Robin, The boy wonder and Batman’s partner. One of the important parts in his life as Robin was first appearance of Batgirl. Barbara Gordon became Batgirl with much dismay from Batman. Batman found that she took his name and persona for herself and didn’t think she would fit in well. Robin on the other hand was more open to the idea. This was partly because he had a crush on her. It was Robin’s pleads that would convince Batman to accept Batgirl into the group and work together. Soon after Batgirl would be known as well as Batman and Robin by the criminal underworld. When the Batman was busy elsewhere Robin and Batgirl would often team up, or enjoy something of a relationship. The second important event is his life was the forming of the teen titans. After several years under Batman’s training he decided it was time to fight with other heroes his own age. He forms the teen titans together with Kid Flash, Aqualad, Wondergirl and Speedy. All of them where sidekicks from actual Justice League members. Even though Dick does not possess superhuman powers, He quickly emerged as the groups natural leader with his experience in the field. When Robin was 17 he was shot in the shoulder by the Joker. This was the last straw for Batman and he ended the Robin career. For Robin this was the time that he outgrew being Batman’s sidekick and wanted to find himself. His new found freedom gave him times to do his Titan’s duties in New York. With all his work done with the Titan’s he rediscovered his self-worth. Batman was not pleased however. He no longer wanted Robin as his partner and he would have to retire the Robin persona. Dick left Wayne manor after the news and went to find himself. In order to find himself he turned towards a man who would understand, Superman. Superman had to answer what Dick could do after giving up the Robin Persona. Long ago on Krypton, a man was cast out by his family - just as Dick had been. He dreamed of a world ruled by justice, and set out to protect the helpless of Krypton. His true identity was never revealed. He was known only as Nightwing. After taking up the persona of Nightwing after a staying with the circus for a while to clear his head. As a new hero he has made a name in Gotham City and Bludhaven. He currently operates in both cities. POWERS AND ABILITIES None, Dick is a normal human being KNOWN ABILITIES: • Peak of Human condition • Master acrobat • Master Detective • Martial Arts expert (mainly escrima stick) • Weapon Expert • Stealth Expert • Genius level intellect • Multilingual • Skilled leader • First aid STRENGTH LEVEL: Nightwing is at the peak physically possible for a human due to extreme conditioning. This makes him one of the strongest “normal” humans around. He relies on his speed more than his strength. He has shown remarkable feats of strength though not as strong as batman. WEAKNESSES: • Only Human: Even though Dick is trained to the peak of what is humanly possible, he is still only a normal human. This means he can be hurt by all sorts of weapons (knifes, guns etc) and even be killed by them. He can become sick, needs food and water and needs air to breath. • Family: Dick cares about his family. Since he lost his long ago when he was young he has a tendency to care for people he is close to allot more than normal. This results in him overreacting to their also gives him actions. He does not want to lose anybody he cares about which could make him overprotective at times. • Enemies: Over the years as Robin and Nightwing he has made lots of enemies. The list consists mostly of the gotham city rogues and Deathstroke. There are many more enemies he has made over the years. Luckily he is not on the top of their lists since they all have allot of enemies and quarrels with each other. Though when he meets two enemies at the same time they have the tendency to gang up on him and then finish their business they have with each other. • Women: Woman love Dick, and he loves them. But after they get to know him, they might get mad. He knows the effect he has on women and avoids to make them feel like they are being toyed with but sometimes it goes wrong. He just has a click with women with his flirty ways and that doesn’t sit well with other women. • Secret identity: It is was it is. None of his enemies need to find out who he really is. Most of the Justice league and older members of the Titans know Nightwing but do not know his identity. He does everything to keep it a secret, He has a normal job and does his heroic stuff at Night. Somewhere in between he needs to find time to sleep. When he gets in a fight as Nightwing and is injured he needs to cover for it in his normal life. • Code of Conduct: There are laws to his work as Nightwing that he lives by. One of the special ones is to not kill anybody or do something that cause them to die. Minimize damage to property and do not hurt anybody unless needed to. Because of this code of conduct he will go out of his way to make sure no innocent people get hurt. Needless to say this can cause problems during his adventures. He puts his life before others. PARAPHERNALIA EQUIPMENT: • Suit: The Nightwing suit is a formfitting bodysuit of a unique nomex/kevlar weave that serves several purposes. First, it's highly fire-resistant. It's also fair protection against small-caliber firearms, though serious gunfire could still penetrate it. The suit is insulated against electric current, and is photosensitive in such a way that it actually darkens in higher light conditions. The mask attaches to Nightwing's face with a simple adhesive and provides him with a set of starlite night-vision lenses as well as an integrated radio transceiver. The entire suit is wired for a one-shot emergency taser charge that goes off if someone who doesn't know what they're doing tampers with his boots or gauntlets while he's wearing them. In the gauntlets and boots are a combined sixteen compartments for storage of useful items, serving as Nightwing's substitution for Batman's utility belt. The right gauntlet is equipped with a 100,000 volt contact stun gun, and both gauntlets have integrated jumpline launchers with about two hundred feet of de-cel jumpline in each, tipped with wall-penetrating pitons and featuring a recoil device that can haul about five hundred pounds of weight maximum. Nightwing's costume is tailored specifically to his unique style of crime-fighting. As such, his costume has fewer body-armor inlays than Batman's, anticipating a decreased need for shock-absorption and an increased capacity for motion ("Move more, get hit less."). A caveat of this configuration can be exploited by capable fighters who are both fast and strong, such as Superman. Should Nightwing need to engage an enemy who is capable of exploiting this weakness, he has supplemental body-armor overlays which he can attach to his gauntlets, his mask, his shoulders, and boots. • Gas Pellets: In appearance they're little more than spheres the size of ping-pong balls, but when thrown they start to spew gas everywhere. Exactly what they spew is up to whatever Nightwing decides to put in them. It could be tear gas, knockout gas, or regurgitant, or even just a smokescreen. Those things are useful. It could potentially also be something real nasty like nerve gas. • Cuffs: It helps to have cuffs like the cops do, and though he used to have the old bat-cuffs like Batman would carry, Nightwing uses his own version which, again, are in the 'bird thing' style. They're roughly as tough as police issue, but without the flexible little chain links in the middle. These are more or less a solid affair that allow minimum movement and keep the hands not only from coming apart, but from getting close enough together to palm anything back and forth. • Gas Mask: The gas mask that Nightwing carries is collapsible and efficiently stored so that he can carry it in one of his utility compartments. It's black and covers his nose and mouth effectively, allowing him to survive any poisonous aersosol or gas without negative effects. The charcoal filters that make the device work are easily replaceable and are good for 24 hours of exposure. • Rebreather: The rebreather is basically an air-recycling scrubber that allows Nightwing to survive in an airless environment (like, underwater) while breathing his own air over and over. It operates by chemically extracting the carbon from CO2 and turning it back into breathable O2. The scrubbers become saturated with carbon after about two hours of use, after which they stop working altogether. • Tracers and Bugs: Surveillance bugs and tracers are bread and butter when it comes to tailing suspects. It's so much easier to tag a target, let them go wherever they're going, and save yourself the chase and just follow the signal when it stops. It's also very handy to bug a room and listen from across the street while somebody includes you in their moment of exposition without being any the wiser. Nightwing carries an assortment of listening and tracking devices which can be used on people themselves, rooms, phones, vehicles, or even animals. • Binoculars: A good set of binoculars can help in many situations. Nightwing has a compact set that feature a zoom feature, settings for infrared, night vision, UV, and even a digital recording feature that allows him to use them as a long distance video camera. • Forensics Kit: Similar to what Dick Grayson used as a police officer, but more compact and better outfitted, with the required tools to find and lift fingerprints, a small video camera, a gas chromatograph, evidence bags with forceps, and other common implements needed to collect and preserve evidence. • Flashbangs: Similar in appearance to the gas pellets Nightwing carries, flashbangs are basically small specialized grenades that explode with a literal flash and a bang. The light and noise is highly disorienting and serves as a very handy distraction when Nightwing needs people to look the other way or perhaps not be able to look at all. If someone's in a dark room and their eyes are adjusted to the light, one of these puppies is going to take their night vision away in a hurry. • Grapple: Though he has launchers integrated into his gauntlets, Nightwing also sometimes carries the standard wall-penetrating grapnel with del-cel jumpline. It comes standard with two hundred feet of line, a diamond-tipped piton that will penetrate most types of masonry with a solid hold, and will hold up to four hundred pounds without fatigue and about twice that much without snapping right away, though that much weight will strain the line and eventually cause it to give. The recoil device is enough to haul up about twice Nightwing's weight without much trouble, and the firing canister has enough CO2 for ten shots before needing to be replaced. TRANSPORTATION: • Nightbird: The Nightbird is Nightwing's ride. He realized he needed one after Batman suggested it and he found himself wishing he could run fast enough to chase down fleeing vehicles that he wasn't close enough to jump on. What he ended up with was a completely custom-built machine that is, for wont of a better word, his baby. The chassis is made of composite aluminum and the engine is a 640 horse power monster that, with proper traction, can bring the Nightbird from zero to sixty in five seconds. On board the car are a computer with a wireless uplink and scanner, a caltrop dispenser to give pursuing vehicles trouble, and a security system that responds to break-in attempts with tear gas. The real inventiveness of the Nightbird is that it has lots of different looks. It was built to be easily transformable by only replacing the outer body. Each of the bodies is reinforced to offer the maximum possible protection from gunfire, and some of the Nightbird's various 'looks' include a red sports car, a taxi, a police car, a truck, and a bombed out piece of crap hooptie. Wally West is not allowed to drive the Nightbird ever again. • Motorcycle: Nightwing's motorcycle is based on a Batcycle, but with the whole Nightwing motif on it. It's a high-powered rocket on wheels that is actually faster than it can realistically go. The problem with motorcycles is that when they're powerful enough they tend to wheelie out and flip if the rider isn't careful. Nightwing's bike comes with a computer uplink and scanner similar to the Nightbird's all the normal armor where it counts, and a black helmet with a visor so if he wipes out he doesn't leave Richard cranium all over the pavement. WEAPONS: • Escrima: Escrima is a Filipino martial art teaching the skilled use of machetes in battle. It's extremely quick and brutal, and practice in escrima is accomplished with sticks to minimize wounding. Because machetes are decidedly lethal weapons, Nightwing uses the sticks as his weapon of choice in this art. The escrima sticks that he carries often fit into concealed pouches on the back of his suit. They are simple batons made of a high-strength polymer that is nearly unbreakable. There isn't much more to them than that. • Wingdings: Nightwing does still sometimes carry batarangs. They're useful and he's used them for years. When given the option, though, he uses his own brand of weapon he calls wingdings. They're functionally the same, being modified boomerangs, only formed in a motif that reflects the 'Nightwing style' of some kind of sexy bird-like iconic...bird...wing thing. Wingdings generally come in one style equivalent to the heavy batarangs that Batman uses and are meant for blunt impacts at a distance. They can, when thrown correctly, travel full circle and return to the thrower, and are exceedingly useful for disarming foes with guns or just smacking things too far away to affect with a fist and too tough to affect with harsh language. • Explosives: Explosives can be very handy, especially for breaching barriers like locks and solid walls. Normally Nightwing carries at least a little C4 with detonators carefully stored elsewhere on his person. He also has small concussion grenades which are useful for stunning rooms of people without seriously injuring them. • Razorwings: Similar to wingdings, these are sharp shuriken-like throwing weapons. Nightwing uses these for cutting things at a distance or for REALLY disarming someone, and not in the sense that he cuts their arm off. They're not THAT sharp, and his puns aren't that bad. They're weighted for accuracy and he can cut the wings off a fly with them. (credit goes to the premade application) EXAMINATION RECORD It was a dark night in Bludhaven. Rain fell down from the sky in thick drops and by the gallons. Nightwing was out on the town this evening, for as far as out on the town meant for him. He was sitting on the corner of a roof, in the rain keeping the look out on a warehouse. With his binoculars he spotted a transport truck slowly pulling up. There was a rumor that a “botanic” shipment was coming into town from Santa Prisca. This could be real flowers coming in from Santa Prisca or Bane was exporting components for Venom. Nightwing Expected the latter and was going to get to the bottom of this. The transport truck moved up the doors of the warehouse and the doors opened. It all looked little bit to clean for him, especially on a night like this. The truck moved inside the warehouse. Nightwing needed to take a closer look. He shot his grapple hook and swung into action, landing softly on top of the warehouse. With this rain his footsteps would surely be concealed. Moving to the top windows he softly opened them and let himself slide on top of the support beams. Crates and boxes filled the warehouse to the point of that they almost formed walls inside the warehouse. The people inside the warehouse where already unloading the truck. Everything was in crates and concealed. Did warehouse personnel usually carry weapons. Specially street pistols and machineguns. He counted 8 total of them, 3 of them where armed with guns. This required a closer look Swiftly and softly like a cat he moved over the beams and landed besides one of the crates that where already unloaded in a corner. The personnel where having small talk amongst each other. Two of them where unloading, one of them was smoking in the opening of the door, and 4 of them where walking around inside to keep it secure. The four who were walking around in couples and they were the ones who were talking. Using one of his escrima sticks he pried open de crate just a little bit. He took a little peek inside and spotted that they weren’t botanic, They were weapons. This had got to stop. Stealthily he started move towards one of the patrols. The patrols were to occupied with each other to notice any of them missing. From behind crates he moved up and knocked their heads together without making a sound. First patrol down and so went down the other but then from atop the crates he jumped them, knocking their heads to the floor. One of them made a sound of pain when he hit the floor. The men carrying the crates dropped them and by the sound of it pulled out pistols. Quickly using his grapple hook, Nightwing places himself upon the support beams and watched the three remaining men find their unconscious friend. “It must be that batman wannebe.” One of them said to the rest. “Spread out and find him.” “Batman wannebe” Nightwing softly said to himself and rubbed his eyes in contempt. He will always be compared to him, even with his own identity. Taking these men down was his top priority. One by one he started picking the remaining three off, making sure they just made a sound so his buddies would hear him going down until one of them remaining. The one who gave the orders, the one who called him a wannebe. He wasn’t a man who held a grudge long, but this one needed to be thought a lesson who was the local vigilante. Softly sneaking up behind him, the man clearly was scared. “Come out you freak. “ He shouted. Nightwing quickly disarmed him with a blow to the kidney and locking his arm behind his back, making sure he dropped his weapon. “The name is Nightwing.” He said softly with a smile on his face and with a swift blow knocked him out as well. Before he left, he rigged the crates with small explosives and destroyed the weapons. The rest would be cleaned up by the police. Another job complete and done. A good start of the night. subject examined by Doctor Cyber | [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=valign,top][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=style, width: 40px;] N I G H T W I N G |
