Lois Lane held up the dress up next her that she was planning to wear tonight, with her other hands she piled her hair up on her head. She looked herself over in her full length mirror for a moment, than shaking her head she placed the dress down and walked away. Lois wished she had more time to go get her hair done but she had only learned of this benefactor party and had accrued a ticked just this morning. This little get together of Metropolis finest was in order to raise money for the local children after school program. The cause was a good one, but that wasn't why Lois Lane was going, no it was rumored that Lex Luthor himself would be there and that was the reason she was going.
Lex Luthor was the most powerful man, well besides Superman, in all of Metropolis. He seemed to have his hand in everything, but being the man benefactor to the city you tend to do that. Lex didn't make many appearances into the public, and he never gave interviews; Lois knew that she had tried his office many times but was always turned down or turned away. So tonight she was going to take a chance and see if he was not only there, but maybe to get that interview after all. An interview with the famous Lex Luthor would indeed give Lois noted credibility; and a good push toward the Pulitzer she wanted so badly.
Again Lois looked at the dress that she had laid a crossed her bed, it was a off the shoulder red dress that came to just above her knees; a little on the tight side but not too much that it would make her like street walker. It was really one of her more flattering dresses and one that would catch a few eyes; with hope the ones of Mr. Luthor. It was somewhat cheep of her to stoop to this leave in order to capture a story but sometimes one had to play in the mud in order to get to the big dirt.
*** Later that Night*** Lois Lane had a driver come and pick her up for the evening, and would later take her home when she was ready and called them. Tonight was an important get together and it was important for a person to arrive in class, which she did. Stepping out of the back of the BMW and onto the red carpet, a few reporters snapped her picture, but it quickly ended once they found out it was Lois Lane. A few of them even groaned when they saw her, for they had not been invited in but only to the outside. So it was with a bright smile that Lois handed over her invitation and was invited in.
Lois had decided to wear the red dress, with her black raven hair up in a little twist with a simple fake gem stone hair pen. If it wasn't for the fact that she was a well known reporter, people would think that Lois belong there among all the rich and glamorous people.
The night seemed to pass by slowly, and with each turn of the hand on the clock Lois had to wonder if Luthor was going to show up. It wasn't until the night was half over that someone announced him.

Lex was bored, his companies were doing fantastically, to well in fact to call running them a challenge for a mind such as his. His work with the Society was proving interesting, they were all more competent than he had been expecting, even the so called Psycho Pirate was proving excellent at his skill set, which; considering the name, was a pleasant surprise. But his part in all those affair was already under-way, he had completed the last of his designs for Joker's extra special toys this morning and set one of his secret automated factories to putting them into production. In short everything was going according to plan...
How tiresome.
Idly his hand flicked over the holographic computer in the back of his limo, buying stock in Kord Industries, vaguely considering a take over just to see if he could recruit Ted Kord. The man was a genius, though his mind was far to scattered for the business world. But even this was a whim at best. The Man of Tomorrow needed a new challenge, at least for the evening. Perhaps he could plan and set off a bank job from his phone? No, entirely to pedestrian.
Still he needed to do something, the evening was for one of the many Metropolis centric charities he supported. Some thought it was PR, which didn't hurt but wasn't the point, how could cold business man Lex Luthor be donating to charity without ulterior motives. They were of course fools, he supported charities whose would would improve and bring order to his city, in this case after school care for children, its benefits were manifold, it would educate the children further preparing them better for working for him, it freed up parents so they could spend more time working for him and helped prevent street gangs which were just so much more effort to manipulate than proper organised crime. Yes, Lex was all about charity.
As Lex exited the limo he waved to the expected horde of paparazzi, they had no evidence of any indiscretions on his part; which only made them assume that his indiscretions were brobdingnagian. They had no idea.
Well it was time to get this over with; he would think of something suitably distracting later.

Lois didn't know if Lex Luthor was really going to show up or not, after all it had been about an hour since she had arrived. After that much time she had to wonder if it was worth sticking around, after all there really wasn't a story here. Most of the glitz and glamour that was here, Lois already had stories on them or they where avoiding her like the plague because of the stories she had done on them. That was the bad part of being a big reporter; sometimes you lost the chances of great friendships; but then again knowing the dirt on those people who would want to be friends with them. Heck who would want to touch some of the people that she had reported on with a ten foot pole.
Just when Lois thought about calling it a night, there was a great commotion at the door. Turning around, for she was standing the middle of the dance floor, Lois looked over at the door. I appeared that Lex Luthor had finally decided to make an appearance. The time had come, and Lois didn't know what she should do. Everyone had run to the door in order to capture a glance at him, or to talk to him. Should she run over there as well and join them, or maybe do something different in hopes that he would take the bait. It was a long shot, but she would most likely have a better chance than running to the door and trying to beat everyone out of the way.
So as everyone ran to the door, Lois walked over the bar and ordered a drink, after getting the drink she took it over to one of the tables; that was on the edge of the dance floor; and sat down. Her back was to the door, and so she didn't know if Lex had come inside yet or not, nor did she really know if he had spotted her yet. This was truly a long shot, and already Lois was starting to wonder if she had made the right choice.

Lex smiled, a perfect facsimile of brotherly warmth, he shook hands with everyone he passed. A much under rated art that Lex believe he had come close to perfecting, one of the simplest but most useful of the many weapons in his arsenal as CEO of LexCorp. Everything from the powerful grip and a slap to the upper arm for the alpha males, a kiss to the hand of a third generation Austrian heiress who still styled herself Von and so on and so on, each with greeting tailored to the individual , everything from the wordless noises to mean “hey this guy!” to sports scores (we beat the Gotham Knights last week, bout time too). Lex met everyone as the person they wanted to see.
Finally free of the mass by the door, he wasn't the only member of the great and good in the city after all and even when they were as reclusive as Lex business men were not as 'fascinating' to some as mere celebrities. Lex glided across to the bar, all smiles on the outside, within however he was merely incredibly board, honestly these things might be vital but they were hardly the intellectual challenge humanities greatest mind required to stave of boredom. Still there was a solution to that too...
“I'll take a Manhattan.” Lex flashed a grin across to the barman. Service was rapid of course, queueing was for lesser men after all. Lex did drink rarely and even then only in moderation, he had no desire for the lack of self control that seemed to attract so many to alcohol. Taking his drink Lex scanned the room for someone interesting... Dear lord was that Lois Lane, sitting quite understandably alone? Not for the ascendant star of the Daily Planet lurking round the door it seemed. She probably had some long game in her sights, probably just here doing due diligence on the charity it's self he reasoned. After all it was sponsored by the 'villainous' Lex Luthor there must be something wrong with it.
“Ms. Lane I presume?” Lex said, setting his drink down and taking another seat at the table. “What brings you to an occasion like this. There can't be more than a puff piece here? And from what I remember you prefer to write those about the, aha, man of steel?”

Lois almost heard everything that everyone was saying as Lex walked in, the trouble was trying to pick out the important pieces. For the most part it was small talk, everything from the weather to sport teams. It really was nothing of important and Lois couldn't help but feel if Lex Luthor didn't search her out, than her story was going to be dead in the water long before it even got out to sea. As the minutes past, Lois felt like it was hours. Lois looked down at her drink, which she hadn't really touched for it was merely there to add to what she was trying to pull off. For a moment she thought about just drinking it, paying her bill, and leaving for the night; maybe she would be able to catch the last few minutes of the romantic drama on tv tonight. “I'll take a Manhattan.” Those four little words caused Lois' ears to perk up and her plans to change for the night. Though she had never talked to Lex Luthor on her own, Lois Lane knew his voice and he had made his way over the bar. Was it possible that her half baked idea was going to work? It was as if every sense in her body was on hipper active, for she didn't have to turn around and look at Lex to know what he was doing. He had ordered his drink and already turned around looking for a place to set, Lois could feel his eyes rest on her and she couldn't help but smile slightly; it was working. With each of his steps toward her set, Lois got a little nervous because she didn't want to mess this chance up.
“Ms. Lane I presume?” Lex said, setting his drink down and taking another seat at the table. “What brings you to an occasion like this. There can't be more than a puff piece here? And from what I remember you prefer to write those about the, aha, man of steel?”
"Mr. Luthor, what a pleasure, please have a set." Lois watched as he sat down and comment about her being here. "Well the man of steel is a little harder to get a hold of, unless I'm thrown off a building. But here there is a story here and if not than I guess I get to enjoy one night being Cinderella." She was playing a little coy right now, hopping it might work. After all she wasn't about to blurt out that she had come here just to see him and try and get him to open up about his personal life, that approach never worked.
