Relief appeared in Gemini’s copy of Red Robin’s eyes as Wonder Girl held out her hand; a truce was probably what the real Robin would want and it was a perfect chance to get close enough to Wonder Girl to attack. “Truce” she replied with as genuine a smile as she could muster, putting her hand into Wonder Girl’s and grasping firmly.
Wonder Girl’s grip was much stronger, so strong that this time Gemini’s wrist did squidge slightly and she was suddenly being yanked forwards towards Wonder Girl. The teen titan moved so quickly that Gemini only barely saw the fist flying at her jaw and had no time to avoid it. The punch knocked her head to one side, although it didn’t send her flying backwards as her body simply absorbed the blow, but the lack of anything that could be called bone meant that Red Robin’s neck bent further round than it humanly should before Gemini managed to twist it back into place. “I’m guessing your name isn’t Steph” she spat angrily, giving Wonder Girl a venomous look, Robin’s voice an angry growl, “You’ll pay for that Wonder Barbie!” Gemini wasn’t just angry with Wonder Girl, she was angry with herself for making such an obvious mistake; she’d walked straight into an obvious trap and it made her angry but luckily there was someone she could take that anger out on standing right in front of her.
Still maintaining Red Robin’s shape because she didn’t want Wonder Girl to know who it was she was facing, Gemini swung her enlarged hand, aiming her punch towards Wonder Girl’s stomach and stretching the arm with enough extra force to hopefully send her opponent flying backwards. Her right hand was also rapidly swelling to match the size of the other, so that she could better pummel the hero in front of her. It would be obvious by now that she was not Red Robin, but hopefully the image of her teammate would at least make Wonder Girl hesitate a little.

The fake had bought it. Cassie wouldn’t ever admit to anyone the feeling of slight relief that filled her in the second for which the two’s hands were linked, before she squeezed down with her own in a way that would have had bones creaking… Except that as her fingers tightened on the fake’s hand, she didn’t feel that. Instead, what it felt like was rubber maybe, something that squished instead of held up under her powerful hand. That might have made sense if Cassie didn’t know her own strength – she could easily crush the hand she’d grabbed down to powdered bone and mulched flesh – but she’d held back as she always did and the feeling of her fingers sinking into ‘flesh’ even a little nearly threw her.
Luckily, though, she was totally committed to the vicious tug that brought the fake towards her and the hard punch that was waiting to greet him when he got there. Really, it ought to have been a knockout blow, delivered straight to the chin with the benefits of Cassie’s measured strength and momentum behind it. There wasn’t any reason to think that she’d need to use any more. So, it was with dawning horror that she saw Red Robin’s head spin nearly a hundred and eighty degrees around with the force of her punch… Even as she stared though, mouth dropping open, waiting for the body to drop… It didn’t. And then the penny suddenly dropped. Shapeshifter. Shapeshifter that didn’t seem to have bones, which explained the squishy wrist and – she managed to avoid wincing as the fake just wrenched his head back into place – the impossible-to-break neck.
Still, she managed a grin as the fake angrily questioned the name she’d used. "Not even close,” Cassie agreed. "And, given how much the real Red Robin loves rubbing my nose in how much he knows about me, there’s no way he’d fall for such an obvious trick. Just because you talk the talk doesn’t mean you can walk the walk, huh?” The venomous nature of the other’s speech made it clear that this person didn’t like being fooled. She’d have to do it some more then, although the cunning plan was temporarily derailed by Cassie’s own temper spiking.
"Wonder… Barbie?” She snapped, angrily now. "You might want to be a bit more polite, unless you want me to tie you into a bow before the police get here.”
But it seemed they were in for a fight, though the other person kept his Red Robin look. Frankly, it didn’t bother Cassie much now. The shock of seeing her punch seemingly kill the other before the recovery had made her sure that this shapeshifter could take her blows easily enough.
Before Cassie could attack though, the fake came at her with a punch delivered by a hand that had to be swollen. It was a pretty obvious move and the blonde easily blocked it – the blow was hard enough that she felt it but not really hard enough to knock through her guard. It slammed against her crossed arms and, in fact, the blonde (who hadn’t expected it to be even that hard) took a step back with the force. But no further, and given that she took the punch on her war bracelets, it barely hurt. She shook it off, with a confident grin, then clenched her own fist and lunged forward, aiming her own punch directly at the fake’s own stomach.

“I’ll remember that if I need to impersonate him again, but for you there’s not going be a next time; I think I’ll just kill you now.” Gemini spat, glaring as her punch was absorbed by the other girl’s guard and realising that this wouldn’t be quite as easy as she’d thought. Gemini had known the other girl was durable, but blocking her punch with just crossed arms meant trouble. “I’m on the clock, if I’d had more time you wouldn’t have known the difference” she growled almost defensively. Previously Gemini hadn’t really cared whether Wonder Girl lived or died, but having her errors rubbed in her face stung her pride enough that she wanted to make this Titan girl suffer; there was no hurry, she had time enough to play a little.
“Aww poor Wonder Barbie is sensitive!” she crowed, still in the voice of Red Robin for extra effect. “Here’s a bit of advice Titan, surrender now and I’ll make this quick, you’re no match for me.” Gemini met Wonder Girl’s confident grin with one of her own, before pretending to attempt to block the incoming punch to her stomach. Deliberately mistiming her counter, Wonder Girl’s fist got past her guard and thumped into her body; the punch didn’t bother Gemini at all; her malleable body simply absorbing the strike, it was exactly the move she wanted: As Wonder Girl struck, the ‘skin’ and leather softened around the hand, causing the fist to sink into her stomach up to the wrist before Gemini solidified around it, trapping the limb uselessly inside her body.
“Oops, bad move” she taunted, Red Robin’s voice full of malice “My turn now!” Lifting her arms above Wonder Girl’s head, her hands twisted and warped, reshaping into huge hammers which Gemini swung viciously at the Teen Titan from different directions, hoping that it would be more effective than her previous attack. Even if it failed, Wonder Girl shouldn’t be able to pull back far thanks to her trapped hand, it would also make that crossed arm block impossible

Feeling she had the upper hand now, Cassie didn’t worry too much at the malice in the shapeshifter’s tone. "You and what army?” She threw back easily, not at all worried. "Because my mom punches harder than that. And I’m pretty sure that you could have had all the time in the world and the criminal lack of prep would show through. You really shouldn’t try to con a con artist. So, c’mon – let’s see you try and kill me. Because I think getting to punch Red’s smug face in without any guilt is going to be great therapy for me.” She cracked her knuckles pointedly.
In her defence, nobody liked being called a Barbie. Cassie, who knew she was a long way from the stereotype, and who was built like an Amazon as well as being smarter than most gave her credit for, took it particularly badly from some fake who hadn’t even done their research properly. On top of that, the shapeshifter’s overwhelming confidence and the grin that really didn’t fit Red Robin’s face just grated. Maybe that was why she went for the punch she had. "I’m more than a match for you,” Cassie corrected, still grinning, until she realised that this time her hand was actually stuck in this thing. The blonde stopped grinning at that point.
She swore in Greek for variety as she realised exactly what a poor choice that had been as far as attacks went. Apparently punching this thing was not a good way to go and she renewed her attempts to pull it free as the shapeshifter taunted her. But it wasn’t helping and Cassie had to think fast. She was stuck in place, trapped where she was and unable to even hop back. And a quick look up showed that she was about to get hit by two giant hammers. Another furious tug failed to free her and Cassie threw her free hand up to block, twisting at the same time so that she took the second blow to the shoulder, not the head. It still hurt, but she had a piece of armour in the way and the shoulder hurt less than the head would’ve hurt and it didn’t scramble her brains at all.
It did mean she stumbled, but Cassie’s toughness kept her upright. It also meant that she realised she needed a new plan. Her free hand snaked down to grab her lariat, where the blood red lasso glowed in its coils around her hips and upper legs. A flick of the blonde’s wrist freed it and then she threw it up, aiming to loop it around her enemy’s torso and draw it tight. Being a grift from the gods, she didn’t see even this thing snaking its way out and it was practically the only thing she could do at this range. That said, either way, the blonde had another plan in mind.
Once she had the Red Robin fake secured in the lasso or, if not, just with the strength of her arm that was buried in its belly, she went to hoist the creature up and over before she just let them both fall to the rooftop. Cassie, tough and armoured, would barely notice it. This thing? Well, if the lariat was around it, it wasn’t going anywhere but maybe that would make it let go of her arm either way.

Red Robin’s stolen features narrowed in anger as Wonder Girl again mocked her lack of preparation, but Gemini’s anger was also fuelled by the realisation that her punches really weren’t having the effect she wanted; even hitting Wonder Girl with a hammer only made her stumble, she would need to change tactics. “You’re pretty tough” she admitted grudgingly “but it’s not going to save you.” The point about Red Robin was a good one though; obviously there was no love lost between the two, maybe a different face would make the Titan hesitate and give her the time she needed.
“We’ll see about that” she replied to Wonder Girl’s comment, but her voice was changing as she spoke, becoming higher pitched. The rest of her appearance was changed with it; her short dark hair lengthening and changing into lush blonde locks, the face mask melted into a face whose features were softening, even as the muscled body of Red Robin shifted to become more feminine and the black and red garments rippled to match the golden armour and clothing that Wonder Girl wore.
“Surprise!” the voice that left her lips was Wonder Girl’s; blue eyes identical except for the malice that sparkled in them staring into their counterparts only inches away. But Gemini had little time to gloat further, the weirdly glowing whip was suddenly looping round her torso, bringing with it an odd feeling that Gemini had never felt before, she couldn’t really explain what it was but somehow the whip was affecting her and that was not at all good.
Hammers melting back into hands, the copy of Wonder Girl’s body thinned and twisted like a snake as Gemini attempted to pry off and squeeze out of the lasso’s grip, but to her frustration it maintained its grip no matter how thin she made herself. Returning to more normal Wonder Girl proportions, Gemini glared in fury at her opponent as she was hefted into the air. The impact with the rooftop would have knocked the breath out of any human, but Gemini wasn’t remotely human and although she felt the blow, there was no pain. Whatever happened Gemini was not letting go of the hand stuck in her stomach; she had the feeling that if she let Wonder Girl go now it would be the end of her chances; whatever the lasso was doing to her needed to stop and to do that she needed Wonder Girl unconscious one way or another.
Obviously blunt force wouldn’t work, but there were other things Gemini she could try, including...yes this bitch deserved it. “Is that all you’ve got?” she taunted, laughing in a voice the same as Wonder Girl’s but with a darker undertone that was all hers. “Has your mom hit like this?” Rolling on top of Wonder Girl, she threw her head back, neck elongating backwards and rebounding elastically straight into Wonder Girl’s nose. But it was just a distraction; the moment her head made contact Gemini started to pull on the hand still embedded in her, engulfing the elbow and flowing on up the arm, her body softening, and like quicksand starting to pull Wonder Girl in.
“Don’t struggle, it’s hopeless, just relax and it’ll all be over quickly.” It wouldn't; she would take her time making sure the blonde Titan suffered for insulting her. Gemini’s face bore an expression of fake sympathy which she thought fitted Wonder Girl’s features, but she couldn’t hold it for long, her copied face lapsing into a manic smirk a moment later. She really hoped Wonder Girl would panic, it would make this whole evening worth it.

As the thing facing her shifted form, Cassie watched with sick fascination as it changed, body filling out, voice changing, until it looked exactly like her. Right down to the armour, though that couldn’t possibly be a true replica of her Armour. It just looked like it. But she didn’t let it stop her for more than a second.
There was something to be said about her Armour and its extras, Cassie had to admit that at least, despite the problems they’d given her. No ‘normal’ lasso could ever have held whatever this was like hers did – it would just have slithered out. But hers, old and magical as it was, held so long as she kept it tight. The thing narrowed to thin enough to resemble a snake before filling out again just in time for Cassie to grab it and heft it into the air, but the impact didn’t do anything to shake it off her. Even if it looked like her now, she couldn’t think it was as tough as she was – what was this thing?
That stopped being a big problem as it insulted her strength then her mom and then went to bash her head into Cassie’s own, a blow that the blonde shrugged off as easily as she had the rest. "My mom hits harder than that,” Cassie said again, "But no, that’s definitely not all I’ve got…”
She paused mid-sentence, realising something was wrong. Her eyes darted south, seeing the black mess that enveloped her arm now creeping its way up even as it was pulling her in.
Whatever the situation was, there was no way that Cassie was giving up or giving in. She fought hard, doing everything she could to wrestle free of the thing’s grip, doing her best to ignore the disgusting feeling of its body sliding around her own. Being told not to struggle just made her thrash harder, but nothing she tried was working. It was like… oil, except alive and sticky and determined to cover her until, presumably, she suffocated. She felt a twinge of panic, but did her best to ignore it. The Armour would take over if she wasn’t careful and this wasn’t a fight she could win in that state. In fact, she’d only really got one option left, which wasn’t exactly a nice one. But then, whoever or whatever this was, they’d just proved that they deserved it and worse.
Ceasing her useless struggles, Cassie glanced up to meet the thing’s eyes, flashing a grin that was all malice. "Yeah, you’re right. It’s hopeless.” Just not for me, she added silently, throwing a prayer to any gods that were listening that this would work.
And then she let the lariat have its way. Still wrapped around her enemy’s body, the strand of glowing wire suddenly went taut. All it had to do was touch someone and, if Cassie let it, it would drain their life right out of them. And that was what it was doing right now, literally sucking the life force out of the shapeshifter and into Cassie herself. It wasn’t something she liked doing, because it came with some really risky add-ons, like the risk of draining its victim of the day dry, but in a choice between death by suffocation like this and surviving, she didn’t have any choice at all.
"Just relax,” She taunted, throwing the thing’s own words back in its face, yanking her lariat tight around it just in case. "It’s all over.”

Gemini growled at the repeated insult, Wonder Girl's features twisting into an expression of vicious anger. That anger gave way to a manic grin as the Titan started to struggle against being engulfed, nobody had ever escaped from this tactic so far, Wonder Girl could struggle all she liked, Gemini would enjoy feeling the Titan breathe her last.
"Yes that's right, you can't escape, just..." The malicious gaze from Wonder Girl had Gemini puzzled; she held the advantage so why did the Titan suddenly look so confident? She now had Wonder Girl's leg's and torso completely engulfed, all she had to do now was complete the process by pulling the annoying girl's head into her substance. But something was wrong; the lasso wrapped around her suddenly pulled tight and that odd feeling suddenly began to intensify.
"What are you doing to me?" she demanded angrily, borrowed blue eyes narrowing as she stared into their twins only inches away. She was having trouble focussing, her control over her form slipping as her consciousness started to ebb. Her face started to flow, skin, armour and blonde hair losing colour and texture, devolving into doughy human features etched in blue goo. "Stop it!"
Frantically Gemini tried to tighten herself to squeeze the air from Wonder Girl and resume a proper form as she thrashed around. "Kill you!" the voice was barely audible, a little of Wonder Girl's voice obscured by gurgle, coming from a melting slit that had once been a mouth.
For a few seconds more Gemini thrashed, losing any remaining humanoid features until she was just a writhing blob of blue goo, Wonder Girl still half embedded in her mass, until she slumped, spreading out in a insensate puddle on the rooftop.

This was basically her last trick, Cassie knew. If this didn’t work, she didn’t have a clue what would be next. Not one. But, aside from the part where the thing thought it was still on top as it were, it went pretty much as planned.
And it seemed that the shapeshifting thing didn’t like her lasso much, Cassie thought with a grim sneer on her lips. It had gone right from being totally confident about its victory one second to angrily demanding that she tell it what she was doing (fat chance of that, because she was not letting it pull another trick out of its hat here) to ordering her to stop it. None of which had any effect on Cassie, who simply pulled her lariat tighter and let it have its way with the meta. It was entirely wrapped up now, the glowing red coils drawn taut about it and, while maybe if it had thought straight it could have got out, thinking straight was definitely not on the cards.
It really didn’t help that her fake was still trying to crush her, an attempt that Cassie’s armoured form shrugged off without any real problems. Again, in another situation things might have been different. But inside her armoured shell, Cassie was pretty much invulnerable and only actual suffocation was a real threat here. As far as she knew anyway. So, it was with the grimly satisfied sneer mentioned above that the blonde stared into her doppelganger’s matching eyes, watching them start to… fall apart even as the thing tightened around her desperately. Did she enjoy this?
No.
And yes.
Regardless, Cassie didn’t look away as blue… ooze replaced flesh and hair and eyes, the face losing definition and colour with growing speed. "I’m winning,” She replied with as heartless a voice as she could managed. "So no, I’m not going to stop. Like I said – it’s over.”
The shapeshifter didn’t give up, but it was totally useless. Everything was. Her squirming and fighting did no good, while her threats didn’t move Cassie a bit. She kept the pressure up until, after just a few more moments, the creature literally fell apart around her. Any semblance of form fell away and it just… Well, it just turned into a puddle of goo, spreading out on the rooftop with a somewhat surprised Cassie sat in the middle and the lariat buried in it.
For a moment, she just sat there, staring and dripping with shapeshifter. That hadn’t been meant to happen. Cautiously, the blonde nudged the pool with a hand. The stuff moved, but there was no sign of any reaction. She stood, brushing herself down with a noise of disgust, and still nothing moved. And it kept going that way even when she pulled her lariat out of the goo and coiled it around her waist. Cassie frowned. She couldn’t have… killed it?
No. No, no,no. It was just… unconscious. Or something.
Her frown became a snarl, which she directed downwards at the puddle, before her lips tugged upwards slightly.
"Sorry about,” Cassie smirked unrepentantly. "But not too sorry.” Carefully, she stretched for a moment, then she bunched her legs under her and shot upwards into the sky. For a moment, she eyed the thing’s… body? Remains? And then she sped away towards the Tower.
Exit Cassie

It took several minutes after Wonder Girl had left for the puddle that was Gemini to begin to stir. Gemini had never before spent a moment unconscious, she'd never even slept before, so as her mind returned to consciousness she was considerably disorientated.
She was still on the rooftop that much was clear, the sky above her and the asphalt underneath. The puddle of liquid Gemini slowly reared up, shifting and warping back into her human form. Everything still seemed to be working fine; the odd feeling of exhaustion that had so suddenly crept over her body was receding fast, what had that damn whip done to her?
Scanning the sky for any sight of Wonder Girl, her shoulders slumped as she realised that she was alone. She had failed. Blue eyes narrowing into an angry glare she stared at the Titans Tower, just visible in the distance to her sharp eyes, gaze full of malice. "I'll get you one day bitch" she muttered before her whole form melted downwards, shrinking and sprouting feathers. Moments later a seagull took off from the rooftop and winged its way off into the night.
