It was hardly a surprise when Courtney committed herself to the cause, yet it still made the old speedster's heart swell with a great pride, gripping her by the shoulders Jay looked into the young woman's eyes and the grim expression that had plagued his countenance since the moment that Joan had passed slipped away, replaced by the fatherly love he felt for the girl. Not only had she brought Jay pride but gifted him with a renewed faith, if his son turned out to be half the person that Courtney was, he would be a happy man. Wearing an earnest smile, Jay continued to regard the young woman, “Thank you Courtney, I couldn't pray for a braver ally,” Elevating his voice over the raucous deluge he continued and addressed the concerns the star-spangled kid had raised, “We will have our answers and with a good deal of luck, we will save my son. But I want you to know, regardless of how this all pans out, the stars and stripes are not a symbol that can be sullied by the government nor even the people it represents. They embody the ideal. Nothing we discover could sully the person you have become.” Once again he released the girl from his protective grip, though this time he almost chastised himself for being so sentimental, “You're a hero Courtney, nothing can change that. No one can take that away from you.” Jay had finished and he was certain Courtney would think him a fool for gushing like a character from an Austin novel but that didn't matter to him, not anymore, he was done hiding behind his stoic facade, from now on the Flash was going to speak his mind.
After being lavished in his compliments Courtney continued to speak, her words rang with reason and it only reinforced the belief that Jay was beginning to foster, that the next generation of heroes were almost ready for his to finally retire and bequeath their title of guardians to them, but that would have to wait until this mystery was resolved. Knowing that his conscious memory was less then an adequate resource in this investigation, Jay had set upon their next course of action, they had to find a telepath that could aid them in accessing his psyche and locating memories that were older then Courtney several times over. Sighing as he informed the young crime fighter of his mental inadequacies, “I can't remember anything concrete, I think our next step would be to locate a telepath that can unlock my memories. That may help us pin something down.” Clicking his tongue as he thought Jay stumbled upon an obvious piece of information that he had forgotten until now, “And we need to search out anything to do with the late sergeant Miller, that avenue might give us something more definite to work with.” Having finished thinking aloud, Jay moved onto the next order of business.
The two of them had done all they could at the hospital, it was time for them to move on and prepare for what was to come next, Jay would have to return home and get into contact with either the Justice Society or League and he was almost certain Courtney had some things to attend to before she became totally consumed with their hunt for his son and the bastards that had taken him. With his decision made, Jay began to excuse himself, “Okay Courtney, I'm going to head home to contact the JSA or the League, whoever will pick up first. You might want to go and collect that car of yours.” Smiling as he bid her farewell, “You know where I live, you came for christmas dinner last year, I'll see you at home.” With that the aged speedster departed rather abruptly, leaving Courtney to her own devices, slipping past the falling water before it soaked into his clothing.
