Basic Information:
Real name: Unknown
Current Alias: Jinx
Gender: Female
Age:
Occupation: Mystic, Criminal
Marital Status: Single
Alignment: Bad
Affiliation(s): The Fearsome Five
Characteristics
Height: 5’9”
Weight: 135 lbs
Eyes: Hazel
Hair: Formerly bald, but her hair has grown and contains different colors.
Character Type: Human
Description: Jinx is a tall and rather slender woman, most attribute to the fact that she doesn’t need to life weights (why do that when you can lift the Earth with your magic?). She possesses caramel colored skin a tribute to her Indian heritage and has recently just grown her hair out. Her hair possesses mystical properties, evidently shimmery and possessing different variations in color. Jinx rarely every smiles and when she does it’s usually bad news which includes (and is not limited to): killing someone, besting someone, harming someone, etc., When she casts spells, she glows purple.
Personality
Jinx is generally intelligent, cautious and quite pragmatic ; she doesn't normally get caught up in the whole melodramatic super-villain behaviour. She tends to just kill her opponents and be done with it. Jinx's Motivation seems to be a textbook example of Power Lust, with an emphasis on proving that she's the toughest magic-user and that she's smarter and better than men.
She seems to really like cruelty, and inflicting it - especially on prisoners - and to generally be rather evil and murderous. It's not quite to the level of an IA, but can lead to debatable tactical and strategic choices.
History
The early career of Jinx is largely undocumented - since it took place in India, far away from the focus of comic books back then. It was stated that she spoke Urdu, so there's a good chance that she might be from North-Western India (or perhaps from Pakistan). One flashback revealed that she was a part of a priesthood (with somewhat Vedic themes in the temple's architecture), along with a master and four other acolytes - but that she harnessed 'dark forces' that made her powerful enough to destroy the others.
In unrevealed circumstances, she clashed with the police and was somehow stopped. Since India lacked facilities to hold people with powers, a deal was brokered to have her incarcerated in the US, and American technicians and corrections officers came to fly her there.
Jinx was imprisoned in the Tri-State prison, an apparently privatised and recent jail complex built to hold superhuman criminals. She was kept immobile, floating within a liquids-filled tank, presumably in a state of complete sedation. Those extraordinary measures to hold her turned out to be pointless, however. Psimon of the Fearsome Five developed an interest in acquiring a powerful new member for the team after Doctor Light left, and more or less convinced the others that Jinx was the right choice.
The Fearsome, well, Four (Psimon, Shimmer, Mammoth, Gizmo) attacked the prison and easily overran the security there. Three Teen Titans (Starfire, Wonder Girl and Nightwing) responded, but were defeated, and the gang left with the equipment holding Jinx. They reanimated the sorceress, who reacted violently as she emerged from sedation, but Psimon quickly neutralised her by levitating her - and psionically taught her English. She soon agreed to join the Fearsome Five.
The recruitment drive launched by Psimon continued, and the Five invaded a STAR Labs installation. There they kidnapped Dr. Jenet Klyburn so that she could reanimate Neutron, a dangerous villain who also had been stored in suspended animation of a sort. Now having the power to wreck a major city, the Fearsome... well, Six decided to blackmail New York City. The Mayor refused and the villains started thrashing the NYPD. The Titans attacked, and started repelling the villains through superior teamwork. As the tide turned Jinx cautiously retreated into the shadows of a nearby alley to assess the situation. The battle was interrupted by the Monitor, who summoned many of the fighters present (including Jinx) to his satellite, as the Crisis on Infinite Earths started. What happened to Jinx during the Crisis is unrevealed, though a secondary source mentions that she was arrested.
Despite her thunderous introduction to the DC Universe, Jinx was not seen again for about fifteen years, publication time. What happened is unknown -- perhaps she went back to India, or was in prison.
Like a host of costumed and/or super-powered females, Jinx took part in Circe's foiled take-over of New York City in 2001, serving on the villains's side. It was perhaps during this battle that she met one or more future members of the new Villainy, Inc. that Queen Clea soon organised.
Clea initially assembled the team (Jinx, Giganta, Trinity, Cyborgirl, Dr. Poison II) to conquer Atlantis ; a scene flashing back to Jinx's recruitment into Villainy, Inc. has Dr. Poison helping Jinx out of some confinement/isolation pod, so it is possible that she was captured and put into deep sedation again after the Circe offensive in New York City. Clea's plans to find lost Atlantis did not produce the expected results - they found a way to Skartaris instead - but that was deemed an adequate substitute for conquest.
Villainy, Inc., wielding considerable power, conquered Skartaris without major difficulties, and eventually the capitol fell to their onslaught. The conquest was soon foiled by Wonder Woman, though. Jinx was defeated in large part because she spent too much time tormenting and torturing their prisoners Jennifer and Travis Morgan (the Sorceress Supreme and the Warlord of Skartaris, respectively) rather than help with the defence. Wonder Woman left Jinx tied to a pillar (high enough so her feet would not touch the ground), and when Dr. Poison fled she neglected to free her colleague, even letting Jinx accidentally inhale some of the poison gas she breathed at her foes. Presumably Jinx was saved by the Morgans and their ally Machiste. After some travel difficulties involving Nazis and dinosaurs, the Villainy, Inc. members were imprisoned by the Amazons.
Under unrevealed circumstances, Jinx ended up in the restored US prison at Alcatraz, until the criminal scientist Dr. Sivana decided to assemble the Fearsome Five to serve as his henchmen. Jinx and Mammoth in particular were replaced in their cell by undetectable android duplicates built by Gizmo. When the Outsiders discovered the substitution, the androids self-destroyed and Gizmo also escaped from Alcatraz. Sivana then used the Fearsome Five as part of a simple plan - he massively shorted on Lexcorp stock, then sent his new allies to inflict enormous damage to Lexcorp. Jinx and Psimon, in particular, psionically forced a senior VP of Lexcorp to give catastrophic orders then kill himself, before flooding the entire office building with poison gas, likely killing hundreds.
Though everything worked right, and Sivana had gone to great length in restoring the Fearsome Five to a fighting trim (even basically resurrecting Shimmer), Psimon predictably decided to get cute with the scientist and dictate their own terms to him. Sivana seemingly killed Gizmo to convey that he was not impressed, and dismissed the Five. At Psimon's urging, the Fearsome Five (well, Four) used the Lexcorp data they had to take over a secret nuclear missiles silo. They decided to nuke Vancouver then blackmail the world, but their plan was quickly thwarted by the Outsiders. The Fearsome, except for Mammoth, managed to flee.
The Fearsome Five (well, Three) then spent months holed up somewhere in the Mexican countryside, not managing to nail any large contract and increasingly getting out of touch with the underworld. Sivana then approached them again, offering them a job, a plan to free Mammoth, and a new ally - Sabbac. As Jinx, Shimmer, Psimon and Sabbac were freeing Mammoth, an unpredicted event occurred. The Rock of Eternity was shattered, and the Seven Sins were freed - only to be immediately absorbed by Sabbac, much increasing his power and stature. Having the power of the Sins at his fingertips, Sabbac hit Alcatraz with irresistible Lust. He was eventually taken out by the Outsiders (reinforced by Katana and Donna Troy), though Jinx was too busy boffing Mammoth to follow what was going on.
Though they likely were captured as Alcatraz stopped being gay sex central, the Fearsome Five (well, Four) were soon hired by Lex Luthor, via the Calculator, as agents of the Society. They were sent to capture Pariah, which they swiftly did. The Society then sent them to recover Chemo after he had been weaponised and dropped on Blüdhaven, razing the city and killing tens if not hundreds of thousands. That one failed, however, and Jinx was taken out by a sleep gas bomb from Robin before she could react. The Fearsome Five (well, Four) were then arrested and carted off.
The Fearsome Five (possibly less) were next seen as Sivana thugs again, as part of the army of super-villains that attacked the wedding of Black Canary and Green Arrow. They were next arrested by the government and summarily deported to an alien planet, along with dozens of costumed villains.
When the situation on that planet came to a leadership fight between the Joker and Lex Luthor, Jinx and the rest sided with the Joker. After various tribulations, the villains managed to make it back to Earth, Jinx included - but minus group leader Psimon, who had been murdered by the Joker. Back on Earth, the Fearsome, hmmm, Three resumed working for the Society, once participating to an assault against the Secret Six.
Powers and Abilities
Known Powers: Jinx is a sorceress, and can create all sorts of phenomena by concentrating and gesturing. She is a formidable elemental sorceress who draws her magic from natural solid ground. For simplicity purposes, Jinx’s powers can be simplified and fleshed out into four categories:
[li]Illusion Casting: By utilizing a magical spell, Jinx can create illusions can trick her foes. She can either alter appearances or alter a setting to her liking. She can also cast projections to distract or throw off an opponent.
[/li][li]Danger Sense: Like a high level of intuition, Jinx is able to sense unwanted or hectic events. Powers and Abilities
Known Powers: Jinx is a sorceress, and can create all sorts of phenomena by concentrating and gesturing. She is a formidable elemental sorceress who draws her magic from natural solid ground. When in tune with her magical skill, Jinx has access to powerful elemental magic that allow her to either conjure her own elemental attacks or utilize her natural surrounding area as a living weapon. For simplicity purposes, Jinx’s powers can be simplified and fleshed out into four categories:
- Terramancy: With terramancy, Jinx can move, shape and otherwise manipulate any “Earthen” elements including most solid objects, specifically all minerals and mineral compositions regardless of their state (mountain, boulder, sand, or dust), dirt and soil as well as bones (not living beings). Jinx can create Earthen weapons or shields, she can burrow into the ground by “pushing” the Earth out of her way, she can cause avalanches, Earthquakes, tremors, mudslides or create quick sand. As an advanced stage, Jinx can manipulate impure metals to bend and mold at her will, allowing her to create weapons and shields with the aforementioned. She can also combine Earthen materials to create powerful bonds to tie down her enemies. Finally, with fine tuning, she can also break down solid objects, making it seem like they are broken down to their simplest forms.
- Pyromancy: Through magical means, Jinx can excite or speed up an object’s atoms, increasing their thermal energy until they ignite. This is not necessarily limited to objects, but also to air particles. Jinx can control and move flames, affecting various levels such as its shape, heat, and size. Jinx can absorb oncoming fire attacks and redirect them, she can create fire blasts or fire storms to entrap people, she can generate enough heat on a person and cause their skin to start melting, by projecting fire from her hands she can “jump” from one location to another, or push herself across the Earth. She can also create pyrokinetic constructs such as weapons, walls or armor. With pyromancy, she can also create sparks of energy and release lightning bolts from her hands.
- Hydromancy: This allows Jinx the control over liquids, enabling her to move and shape any body of water to her desire: lifting, parting or otherwise manipulating its form and/or density. She can easily form water to serve as a weapon either by shaping into gigantic whips, formed into a razor-sharp edge that can cut through even metal, or simply dropped to smother an opponent. Through this form of hydromancy, Jinx can also modify the temperature of the liquid and transform it into ice, creating even deadlier weapons. When near bodies of water, Jinx can create tsunamis or tidal waves, manipulate tides or control ocean currents.
- Aeromancy: Jinx can manipulate the wind around her to change the flow or current and even form gusts. In controlling the air around her, Jinx can create tornadoes of various sizes, manifest balls of air to act as projectiles, utilize the air to “jump” from one location to another or push herself across the Earth, create a shield of air molecules around herself or a group of people that effectively keeps assailants and projectiles out, and create waves of air pressure to keep her enemies back. She can also manipulate the air particles, causing the air to either become a poisonous green gas or a cloud of black smoke that is impossible to see through.
Jinx exhibits anxiety just before a hazard and can warn others or act accordingly in order to avoid it. This is helpful when she is in danger of being ambushed or in a heated battle where constant hits are being thrown her way.
[/li][li]Earth Connection: Jinx possesses a very special connection with the Earth which allows her to draw her powers. She can also connect with the Earth even deeper and retrieve more magic from within the ground to help strengthen her abilities. [/li][/ul]
Known Abilities:
- Meditation: What sets Jinx apart from the rest of the criminals in the world is that she is more at peace with her internal self that anyone else. She has consistent meditation periods for herself to keep her mind and check and to allow her the greatest spiritual release in order to be in more tune with her magical abilities and to be able to use them to their full potential.
- Magical Knowledge: Years of training have opened her up to the world of magical understanding and know how. She knows her spell books and her incantations and is knowledgeable of the magical realms and dimensions that exist in the world.
- Basic Hand-to-Hand Combat: Her experience with different criminal groups along have brought her to terms with her mortality as well as the possibility of a physical confrontation. In order to avoid being easily bested, Jinx has been trained in basic hand-to-hand combat, basically evasive maneuvers that allow her to move out of the way of being hit and create a distance between herself and her enemy. This allows her to reset and use her magical force to keep them away. She also combined her magical abilities with her fighting in order to create a lethal combination.
- Ranged Weapon Combat: Jinx is capable of using, specifically staffs, swords, and other melee weapons with a certain level of expertise. Trained by the priests as well as over the years, Jinx can wield a sword or staff when necessary or when she conjures it with her magical abilities.
- Acrobatics: Jinx possess natural acrobatic skills that allow her to evade and move seamlessly in battle with elegance and grace. Her acrobatic skills allow her to flip, roll, or tumble with expertise that allows her to dodge attacks and effectively makes her a hard opponent to hit.
Strength Level: Jinx possesses very little physical strength and is able to lift less than her own body weight.
Weaknesses:
- Watch Where you Stand!: Jinx’s specific magical abilities require her bare feet to be in contact with the ground at all times in order for her spells or incantations to be in effect. Jinx personally either goes barefoot at all times or wears false boots without soles to maintain contact with the ground. If she is knocked off her feet or momentarily taken off the bare Earth, all her conjurations immediately disappear and she is magically ineffective in battle.
- Metahuman Strength and Up: As a sorceress, Jinx was not required to do any heavy lifting of any sort. Her personal strength is actually below average so on a physical confrontation anyone who is athletically better than her can easily beat her to a pulp. Meta humans or stronger beings can also cause a distress for her if they are resilient to her magical assaults or wear her down to exhaustion.
- Break in Focus: Jinx requires concentration and focus to cast her spells and incantations, if her attention is broken by things like very loud and disruptive noises or sudden changes in environmental settings, Jinx can be thrown off and her spell can either fail to cast or be completely ineffective.
- Magic Cancellation: If there is a powerful enough magician in place, Jinx’s abilities can be canceled out or rendered useless. This takes magicians like Doctor Fate to be able to pull off such powerful magical acts.
- Bullet Proof Vest Required: Jinx despite her magical abilities is HIGHLY susceptible to being shot, stabbed, poisoned, or bludgeoned to death.

- Convertible Staff: A staff, that when not in use is a small cylindrical hand held pipe. When activated (by a simple sliding motion) it extends out to a six foot long bo staff that Jinx utilizes when her magic has been nullified or prevented. This way she still has a fighting chance.
