Xara regarded her counterpart as he spoke. Naturally, she displayed no emotion but she noted the tension in his voice as he spoke of his mission. There was an inflection to his words– a threat, perhaps? Albeit she assessed that it was unintentional.
Passionate, the Terrans would term his mien. It was clear that Kal-El cared for these earth people – as they did for their pets, she imagined.
.<<Do you plan to remain here?>> he asked.
<<In the Fortress? Of course,>> she replied. <<There is still a vast amount of data to analyse. Further, I must solve the issue of our apparent incompatibility: I suspect that this will not prove to be difficult. Thereafter, I shall remain here to monitor and observe, lending help where I deem it is necessary to do so.>>
<< Surely even you would have some need for social interaction? I get the distinct feeling that you might have missed out on some of the more subtle element of living on your own world. >>
Xara felt her brow crinkle as she frowned in genuine confusion. <<With the Terrans?>> she could not help the disbelieving smile that crept to her lips. <<Of course not. As I have explained, they have nothing to teach us Kal-El.>> She paused, her emerald gaze meeting the blue of her counterpart’s. <<Would that there were more survivors of our world, Kal-El; a Science Council would be of benefit to this benighted planet. However, we must deal in matters of fact. We two must do what we can.
But first things first. The immediate issue is for me to ensure that you and I can operate in close proximity – without anomalies. Here…>>[/colpr] She touched her control console and a crystal rose from within. <<This crystal will capture the necessary genetic data – you simply need to grasp it in your hand.>> She paused for a moment. <<You have nothing to fear from me, Kal-El. This Fortress is available to you – you may enter at any time.>>
