History
Birthright
Huang originally sought to raise twelve sons to carry on the legacy that he had created. The planning process had been simple, he would bring to the world twelve sons, each who were born successively and would hold the Chinese Zodiac Sign over their heads as if it were some crown. If the children that were born were not in the right year, or was a girl, then they were killed.
Superstition however brought a change to Huang's plans. One night, after all his sons had been born, he visited a Chinese astrologer to ensure that his planning would not go in vain. Upon his visit, the astrologer, looked to the heavens and predicted the following:
Huang found no problem with the prediction and felt that his attempt to ensure that he would be able to be undefeated for an eternity would work out.
As many Chinese knew, the year of the Cat was believed to not exist, nor did it appear on the lunar calendar. Huang quickly dismissed the idea, believing that the Astrologer had read something wrong. It was impossible for there to be another child. There were only twelve zodiac animals, twelve brothers, twelve sons to carry on his legacy.
One night, when Huang slept, he had a graphic nightmare in which the image of a demonic feline creature rounded up the twelve animals of the Zodiac and slaughtered all of them. He awoke to the screams and yells of one of his wives who was going through labor.
On that night his wife, Mao Sing (whose first name ironically translated to Cat) gave birth to a baby girl, his thirteenth child. Huang was almost ready to rid of her, however while holding the child, he noticed her quiet and reserved nature, her cat like eyes, and the oddly shaped birthmark on her side that resembled a cat. He recalled his nightmare and the astrologer's prediction and decided to keep the child. Huang would train her with his twelve other sons with the expectation that she would excel over the rest.
He named her Mae Li, which meant more powerful already paving the destiny that she meant to fulfill. Like the rest of his children, he branded her, burning into the back of her the symbol of the cat.
Upbringing
When Huang spoke to his twelve sons and his one daughter, he explained how each of their futures were already set up for them. He explained how Mae Li was supposed to be the best out of all of them, this was something that angered all the brothers and thus they abhorred Mae Li.
Huang expected a lot from his children so he trained them brutally, not taking into account their child consciousness or states of mind. They were going to be bred into great warriors, this he was very sure of. The workouts and trials that he put them through were insane, inhumane and heartless. Regardless, his children performed to the best of their talents.
During training however, Huang would always notice that Mae Li was always behind. She would always be late to practice or she would have some wicked injury or sickness that affected he training. He never questioned this, and assumed that it was because she was weak. Often times he questioned whether or not he should continue training her, but those types of thoughts were dismissed once he saw Mae Li outshine her brothers.
What Huang did not know was that there were reasons behind the way Mae Li was. Her twelve brothers would torture her whenever their father was not around which would result in her manner of her injuries and behavior.
One significant assault the brothers did to Mae Li was when they attempted to drown her when she was young. While out swimming for their conditioning, Shu Hian (the Rat) pushed her out into the deep water where the current was strongest and the brothers watched and laughed as she struggled and almost drowned. Mae Li eventually made it back to shore only to meet the stern face of her father who assumed she had swam out too far and almost brought harm to herself. She was punished for her foolishness.
Ever since that day, Mae Li developed a psychological fear for large bodies of water.
Other things the brothers would do to Mae Li was clog her hears so she wouldn't hear the morning rooster call and be awakened by it. Thus, she was late every morning for training and was beat savagely by her father. When their father was not around, they would soak Mae Li, and chase her around brandishing tree branches and beating her furiously with them. They also created nick names for her such as Mai Li Mao, which meant dead cat, or Shi San, thirteen- the bad luck number.
Often times, they would beat her near death, or until she received heavy injuries, but they would never kill her. They also designed plots that would insinuate towards her insubordination and for that their father would punish her by putting her through even more intense training and forcing her to do strenuous chores.
Despite the torture that she went through, Mae Li was strangely very quiet about everything that happened to her. She would not cry, nor would she wail in pain. Like a cat, she would simply attempt to flee from her brothers until she was cornered and had no where to go. She would also spend a lot of her own time alone, forced to train and study on her own while her brothers had each other to support.
Even more so, Mae Li's personal skill and ability seemed to outrank any of her brothers. Whenever it came to individual spars where Huang would observe the progress of his children, he noticed that each brother would come to an easy draw, or be unable to knock one another down, where as Mae Li was able to defeat each of her twelve brothers.
Remembering the words of the Astrologer, Huang decided to pit Mae Li against all of her brothers. He learned that together the brothers were an amazing force, but alone they could not fight to their best potential. Mae Li was defeated by her brothers during the first trial run, but overtime, Huang began to notice that she was getting better and better and eventually, she singlehandedly defeated all of them.
As time passed, Huang realized that his sons would only be formidable fighters in the presence of another, where as Mae Li would be able to fight on her own.
Huang came to understand that Mae Li was in fact the greatest out of all his children, and that she would really be able to carry on his legacy. Changed by this, Huang met secretly with Mae Li, requesting that she be the only one to take his life instead of his sons. Mae Li graciously accepted out of honor, and was prepared to carry on the duty in completely secrecy. What they did not know, was there was a rat in the area.
Shu Hian had listened in on the conversation between his father and Mae Li and grew angry towards his father's request. He informed his brothers, who were also infuriated by the very thing that the father had originally expected from them. Taking charge of the situation, the twelve brothers rid of Mae Li by stuffing her with a sack and throwing her down a stream. That same day, the year before their thirteenth birthdays, they gathered together and fulfilled their father's original wish to be killed by his sons.
Enlightened
The sack that Huang Mae Li had been put into was fished out of the water by one of the world's greatest Sensei, Kirigi. Kirigi was in China on some sort of pilgrimage to find someone and stumbled upon the unconscious body of Mae Li. Unable to leave the child, who looked to be about seventeen or eighteen, revived her and stayed with the child until she was completely healed.
While caring for her, he would try to talk to her but found that she was unresponsive. All she would ever do was watch him with extremely sharp eyes and retreat within herself. It seemed as if she was unable to communicate. Intrigued by her Kirigi decided that he could put aside his own plans in order to unlock the mystery of this child. What intrigued him the most was the child's ominous aura. There was bleek nothingness in her eyes, and the brand on the back of her neck interested him. Often times he would try to ask her about herself, but she remained silent only adhering to the basic needs such as eating, sleeping, drinking and walking.
Kirigi also found Mae Li to be interesting when he would awake every morning and find her already awake and training. She appeared to be a fighter, a very powerful one at that and he learned after a few days with her she was continuously performing a routine that she had no doubt picked up elsewhere.
Other characteristics he picked up about Mae Li was her cat like presence. When he would walk around, she would follow him silently and be right on his tail. She was quiet, but often times she mimicked what he did. When he went to walk, she would quickly followed after him, when he would sit, she would sit ride behind him. When he was finished meditating, she would sit down quietly besides him and then follow after him when he left.
She was a rather interesting child. And over time, Kirigi began to speak to her with long and in depth conversations on different philosophies despite the fact that she would never respond. He also began to train himself, finding that she would watch him and in the morning be performing the same moves that she had watched him do the other night.
He realized that she would watch him, listen to him, and study him. She was aware of her surroundings and most importantly she was aware of him. Why she wouldn't speak was still a mystery to him. One day, when he was speaking to her he told her that he would call her “Ko Yang ee” which was Korean for cat, on that day Mae Li responded to him, telling him that her name was Mae Li and that she was the child born in the year of the cat.
Kirigi surprised by her response told her that there was no “Year of the Cat”, but Mae Li responded, telling him of how she was the thirteenth child out of twelve and was destined to be a great fighter. Questioning her skill Kirigi requested a spar between the two. Mae Li almost out of obedience or instinct agreed and Kirigi learned that even when he used his most powerful moves against her, she was able to hold quite the fight against him.
Wondering the limitations of her abilities, Kirigi began to spar with her more often and in a way took her under his tutelage. He brought her with him on his small pilgrimage and proclaimed that she had helped him fight what he was looking for. He taught her all the skills that he knew and brought her up under his philosophy and teachings, which although Mae did not respond much to, Kirigi understood she listened to and absorbed.
Spending almost a year with her, Kirigi was prepared to return back to Korea and was going to invite Mae Li to come with him. However when he went to search for her, he found that she had already left leaving only a small letter of gratitude for his kindness.
The Wandering Cat
Setting out in the world on her own, Mae Li was greatly intrigued by the tales that Kirigi shared with her. She was fascinated by the stories that he had told her and by the adventures that he seemed to have. So Mae Li decided to travel on her own in order to discover her place in the world. All the while, she heard of a mysterious group in China known as the “Twelve Brothers of Silk” and was oddly drawn to them.
Scouring the streets for any signs of them, she finally stumbled upon them and learned that they were in fact the twelve brothers that had tried to rid of her when they were all children. After learning that they were the ones who killed their father and had tried to rid of her in the process, Mae Li challenged them to a duel.
Once again, Mae Li was able to take all of them on, however her victory in the battle was forced to shift after her brothers, Shun Hian and She Nian impaled a poisoned blade into her side and retreated with their brothers and once again left her for dead.
Left with the thought that she was going to die, Mae Li passed out before catching sight of a mysterious figure.
Days later, Mae Li woke up to find that she had been nursed back to complete health. She was almost sure that Kirigi had once again come to save her, but she was surprised to see a woman walk into her room instead of her Sensei.
The mysterious woman introduced herself as the “Lady Shiva” and said that she had helped Mae Li only because she had caught sight of her fight and was very interested in her skill. She found that Mae Li was very quiet and almost non-responsive when she was spoken to, which frequently annoyed her, but she still stuck by the young woman.
Lady Shiva promised Mae Li that she would provide her with information on the Twelve Brothers of Silk and help Mae Li so she would be able to defeat them. In return, Lady Shiva asked Mae Li to look for her in the future so they could battle.
Mae Li, intent on taking her anger out angst out against her siblings accepted Shiva's offer and was brought under her tutelage. She found that although Lady Shiva was a great fighter who had a dark and foreboding aura. Mae Li had commented once that she Lady Shiva wrecked of death, and she found that her new Sensei was quite different from Kirigi.
Kirigi who showed her kindness and consideration was someone that Mae Li discovered only came once in a lifetime and she had let him go. Lady Shiva on the other hand was brutal and fierce, but everything that she had put Mae Li through was nothing in comparison to what she had gone through with her father and her twelve brothers.
Finally the day had arrived and Lady Shiva left Mae Li with the information she needed and the new skills she had taught her.
Taking the information, Mae Li went after the Twelve Brothers of Silk who were in Singapore. Locating them, Mae Li discovered that they had just recently been defeated by an opposing team and were forced to a draw. Disappointed in them, she sought after them and confronted the group.
Her twelve brothers, bewildered that she had once again for at least the third or fourth time escaped the clutches of death were prepared to take her on again. Breaking into an intense battle, Mae Li found that her brothers were still a single fighting force, and through this she realized that they had one weakness.
Breaking through her other eleven brothers, Mae Li made way for Shun Hian and dealt a blow to his chest that crushed the bones and pierced his heart and lungs. Effectively killing Shun Hian, Mae Li looked upon her remaining brothers who were gazing back at her in complete shock. She proclaimed that she had killed their devious rat after the many years that he had deceived her and tried to kill her.
Angered by her action, the eleven brothers made an attempt to kill her themselves, but were once again singlehandedly defeated by their younger sister. Mae Li left her eleven brothers in critical conditions and in deep shame.
Huang Chao Ran vowed their vengeance, proclaiming that they would find her and kill her.
Self Preservation
Left alone in the world once again, the silent Mae Li understood the threat that her brother had thrown at her and knew that sooner or later the now Eleven brothers of silk would come after her. Although she did not fear them, she still felt that she did not want to be found so easily by them.
She decided then to make something of herself, and to do something with her life and her personal skill.
It is through that, that Mae Li sought out the League of Assassins. She remembered this name after hearing Lady Shiva bring it up once to her. It took her several months, but she eventually found the League of Assassins. Not formally indicted into the League, different jobs were passed down to Mae Li to perform as if they were tests for her.
Despite her work and rather successful trial runs, Mae Li remained a insignificant member of the League of the Assassins and was well hidden within the shadows.
She picked up the name “Shi San”, as her brothers had called her Thirteen, the unlucky number, the numerical value of misfortune. Mae Li was in fact the bringer of such misfortune of bad luck, of death.
During her time there, she searched for Lady Shiva, prepared to duel her however she was informed that she had been killed in one hit at something called the Kumite. Curious as to who had killed her, Mae Li searched for her killer and learned that it was someone by the name Val Armorr.
Her time at with the League exposed the power struggles between members of the group who wished to be at the head. Although she never really meet face to face with those who were at the top, she was well aware of what was going on. Mae Lie began to reconsider working with the League feeling as if her own honor would be marred.
However, remembering the destiny that she was supposed to follow, Mae Li sought to create something from herself through her work in the League of Assassins.
As she promised her father she would carry on her legacy and be the greatest fighter who would remain undefeated for an eternity.
Characteristics
Age: 24
Height: 5'6”
Weight: 120 lbs
Eyes: Grey
Hair: Black
Unusual Features: Branded into the flesh on back of her neck is the Chinese symbol for “Cat”. She also has a cat shaped birthmark on her right side.
Personality: For the most part, Mae Li is an extremely quiet little creature. Even as a baby she did not cry or whine and even through her rash beatings she did not scream or complain. She was oddly silent and at the same time held an eerie presence around other people. She's very patient and calm, and can sit down for hours and hours if she has to or if she is told to. She's not quick to temper and most times if you do bother her she will simply walk away or probably just kill you for being such a nuisance. But because she's quiet, it doesn't mean she isn't a thinker, because Mae Li is always thinking. As she listens, as she watches and as she experiences she constantly thinks of everything that is going on around her often creating ploys or situations that could very well in the future put her ahead of things. She's actually got a lot to say, she just isn't too sure how to express all of that.
Despite the angst and suffering she had to endure as a child, Mae Li is extremely strong willed and mildly independent. She's capable of taking care of herself and doesn't feel the need to prove this. She simply does it. Graceful and extremely subtle, not many can tell a lot about what Mae Li is thinking or whether or not she still suffers from the demons that her brothers had created for her. It's probably though her movement, the powerful dance known as martial arts that people can pick up the rigid pain that she had to go through in order to become who she is today.
Mae Li is rather distant when it comes to people, when it comes to emotions and when it comes to her own feelings. Assuming she was ever given the chance to interact with any of those, then she would probably be quite better when it comes to situations that involve any of those things. She doesn't speak much, but when she does, it's usually to say a Chinese proverb or something simply such as what is going to happen, what she is feeling, or if she is giving a command. Otherwise, she is emotionally and mentally distant, preferring to keep to herself and to stay away from others as she was not taught to bathe in the presence of many other people.
Another thing about Mae Li is her observational skills. She's a listener, and a spectator, she simply catches whatever happens around her process it and makes sense of all of it. Maybe it's those cat like eyes, or that lifeless gaze, whatever it is, it intimidates people. Mae Li's gaze is almost magnetic and once she has her eyes locked upon you she never lets you go. She's quiet and gives no reaction what she sees, simply being a silent observer rather than one who comments. If need be, she will do so, but usually she observes through her own curiosity and for her own benefits.
She's quite a mysterious little creature and very few people have been able to crack through whatever shell she is in. Maybe she was born this way, or maybe she was conditioned this way, whatever it is, Mae Li's destiny and sole purpose in life is to carry on the legacy that her father had and emotional attachment to the world that she is on isn't part of the qualifications for the role.
Despite her seemingly introvert demeanor, there lies within Mae Li a rather manageable killer. One of the things her father had taught her was to show no fear, show no mercy and above all hold no remorse. She's quiet, and silent in a deadly sort of way. Almost like the harbinger of death, Mae Li is a terrifying little creature. One must understand that went off the battle field she is a seemingly docile being, but when in it there is a level of malevolence and cruelty that one would have never expected. She's willing to tear someone's heart out if necessary and she's willing to watch people suffer and be the cause of it.
She takes pride in her skill and abilities and although she doesn't boast about it, she shows this pride through her own performance. There's a certain mindset that one needs in order to tame such a hidden killer and Mae Li possesses this. Whatever sick and twisted fantisies or images that roam through her head she no doubt has already brought to life.
But of course, this silent killer is one who isn't meant to be seen or heard, and so Mae Li sticks by this, hiding the vicious and predatory side of her and releasing it only when absolutely required. She has a taste for blood and can draw enough to satisfy her own hunger.

History
"Twenty-Five years ago, there was this legendary fighter, by the name of Huang. Undefeatable. Supposedly killed three men once without waking up from a nap. As he grew older his heart grew bitter at the thought of his eventual defeat. So he decided to pass along his gifts. He believed in the Chinese Zodiac, and set about having a son born under each sign. He took many wives. Each child who had the misfortune of being born a girl, or in the wrong year, was killed immediately. And each child who lived was branded. He trained them brutally. Made them all twisted inside. Nurtured their hateful aspects. And then, before the year of their thirteenth birthday, he asked them to kill him. So he would never be defeated, and would live on, defeating his enemies throughout eternity."
Birthright
The cat and the rat were the worst swimmers in the animal kingdom. Although bad swimmers, they were both intelligent. They decided that the best and fastest way to cross the river was to hop on the back of the ox. The ox, being a naïve and good-natured animal, agreed to carry them across. However, overcome with a fierce competitiveness, the rat decided that in order to win, it must do something and promptly pushed the cat into the river. Because of this, the cat has never forgiven the rat, and hates the water as well. After the ox had crossed the river, the rat jumped ahead and reached the shore first, and it claimed first place in the competition.
Following closely behind was the strong ox, and it was named the 2nd animal in the zodiac. After the ox, came the tiger, panting, while explaining to the Emperor just how difficult it was to cross the river with the heavy currents pushing it downstream all the time. But with powerful strength, it made to shore and was named the 3rd animal in the cycle.
Suddenly, from a distance came a thumping sound, and the rabbit arrived. It explained how it crossed the river: by jumping from one stone to another in a nimble fashion. Halfway through, it almost lost the race but the rabbit was lucky enough to grab hold of a floating log that later washed him to shore. For that, it became the 4th animal in the zodiac cycle. Coming in 5th place was the dragon, flying and belching fire into the air. Of course, the Emperor was deeply curious as to why a strong and flying creature such as the dragon should fail to reach first. The mighty dragon explained that he had to stop and make rain to help all the people and creatures of the earth, and therefore he was held back a little. Then, on his way to the finish line, he saw a little helpless rabbit clinging on to a log so he did a good deed and gave a puff of breath to the poor creature so that it could land on the shore. The Emperor was very pleased with the actions of the dragon, and he was added into the zodiac cycle. As soon as he had done so, a galloping sound was heard, and the horse appeared. Hidden on the horse's hoof is the snake, whose sudden appearance gave the horse a fright, thus making it fall back and gave the snake 6th spot while the horse took the 7th.
Not long after that, a little distance away, the ram, monkey and rooster came to the shore. These three creatures helped each other to get to where they are. The rooster spotted a raft, and took the other two animals with it. Together, the ram and the monkey cleared the weeds, tugged and pulled and finally got the raft to the shore. Because of their combined efforts, the Emperor was very pleased and promptly named the ram as the 8th creature, the monkey as the 9th, and the rooster the 10th.
The 11th animal is the dog. His explanation for being late—although he was supposed to be the best swimmer amongst the rest—was that he needed a good bath after a long spell, and the fresh water from the river was too big a temptation. For that, he almost didn't make it to finish line. Just as the Emperor was about to call it a day, an oink and squeal was heard from a little pig. The pig got hungry during the race, promptly stopped for a feast and then fell asleep. After the nap, the pig continued the race and was named the 12th and last animal of the zodiac cycle. The cat finished too late (thirteenth) to win any place in the calendar, and vowed to be the enemy of the rat forevermore.

”But wait- there is more. You will bear a child, born in the year of the Cat, and it will be destined to be the greatest fighter of them all. It will be able to fight AS one. Take care of the Cat, for it will ensure your legacy will remain for all eternity.”

Powers
Known Powers: No known powers
Known Abilities:
- Martial Artist: Most would say that the Twelve Brothers of Silk were considered to be extremely potent martial artists. Trained by the late Huang, they were considered to be on the same skill level as Lady Shiva. That being the case, Mae Li is undoubtedly one of the most proficient martial artists that this world has yet to see. Her natural skills which have been nurtured and trained since a young age have brought forth the legend that she was destined to become. If she were allowed the spot light, Mae Li would probably be just as great or even better than the likes of someone like Lady Shiva or the Black Canary.
The art of fighting is far more important to her than it would be for most people, for it is the way she is able to effectively communicate. Showing her disdain and angst against her brothers could only be shown through her violent, graceful and accurate movements. Her father had specifically designed all of them to be the best, but Mae Li's upbringing had turned her into the greatest. By birth a silent child, she was forced down the path of education through suppression. Her brothers left her no room to explain herself and her father did not give her the opportunity to ever justify her actions or behavior. Instead through grueling hard work and training she learned that she could effectively get a point across. Mae Li is simply capable of using at least every single part of her body as a weapon, making every inch of her a lethal weapon.
There is probably very little who reach the caliber of natural prowess Mae Li has for Martial Arts. Trained by great Senseis, Mae Li possesses with her the styles and techniques that could effectively kill someone or disable them. Whatever style it may be, Mae Li probably already knows it or she could learn it in a matter of seconds. She is carefully with the style and manner that she uses when going into a fight and makes sure to choose the style most suiting for her opponent. Although there is still much for Mae Li to learn, even the heavens do not doubt her ability to be a legend. - Acrobatics: Through years of intensive training and conditioning, Mae Li's small physique is able to perform feats that world renowned gymnastics are known for. Swift, agile and graceful, Mae Li is able to assimilate her aesthetic movements with her fighting style enabling her an upper hand in not only style but in movement on the battle field. Capable of performing one handed, or even no handed back flips, vaults, free falls, and twists and turns throughout the air, Mae Li can move with style and grace.
- Melee Weapons: Along with the art of hand-to-hand combat comes the understanding of how to effectively use a melee weapon. It's not all the time that your opponent will be as so kind to always allow you that option. A master of most forms of melee ranged combat, Mae Li can wield a tai chi blade, triple rod staff, a bo, a spear, or small daggers and knives. She's as effective with these weapons as she is with her own body and is capable of improvising with weapons if absolutely necessary.
- Reflexes: Mae Li is not hesitant or slow to react in any situation. The slightest sound or the slightest movement is enough to make Mae Li react physically. There's almost nothing that can catch her off guard, if there is, then it must have been pretty damn skilled in the art of stealth. Movement being one of her key forms of communication, Mae Li is naturally very observant and analytical with it comes to any type of action. As they say, for every action there is a reaction and Mae Li is sure to have one all the time.
- Photographic Reflexes: A natural ability that Mae Li possess. It is an advancement in “photographic memory”, with this ability she is able to remember and retain any physical movement she has seen, ranging from athletic, marital arts, artistic, or simply any sort of physical movement. After retaining this information, she is able to mimic or repeat the same movement just as it was once used, or portrayed. Although she may not equal is strength or force, or some of the more powerful people that she has “mimicked” she does hold the basic idea of the specified movement, and what it is capable of.
- Sixth Sense: Whether it be through super natural acquirement or pure skill and talent, Mae Li has some sort of, sixth sense. What it typically does for her is allows her to feel the aura around other people and sometimes she can even see them. Generally the sixth sense affects one or more of her other five senses allowing her to sense someone's hostility, or their graciousness. She's also able to sense someone's feelings although is not very effective about reacting to it. Her sixth sense can “feel” or warn her of a bad omen, or even simply on what the weather will be like. Often times, her own aura generates an air of mysterious and sometimes misfortune for those around her. However things that happen to him without her hand in it is completely out of her control.
- Athletic: Through years of training Mae Li's body is perfectly conditioned for the work that she performs. This entails the usage of her stamina, personal durability, strength and speed. She's strong, fast, and resilient for such a small looking young woman. But nevertheless despite looks, her body is perfectly toned, every itch of what would be fat is complete muscle. From well toned abs to nicely chiseled legs and arms, Mae Li is an athlete best, but a fighter first.
- Survival: Growing up in the harsh and cruel environment and training that she was forced to live in, Mae Li had to acquire the savagery and instinct of a beast in order to survive the training that she was put through. Like all her brothers she'll do quite well in the wilderness as she's done many a times. Even more so, she's rather practical and just simply has that survival instinct that reminds her of what she needs to do and how to do it in order to ensure her well being.
- Stalking: There's something about the quiet and reclusive nature of Mae Li that makes her a rather excellent stalker. Of course, this doesn't mean in the obsessed boyfriend way, but instead it relates to how a lion stalks its prey. She can sit or lay still for hours and hours and go completely unnoticed and then finally she can strike with the power and force of an attacking cobra. She's extremely silent and holds a very weak aura that doesn't alert people when she follows after them. She can effectively stalk someone down, making them feel comfortable in their own personal space until she strikes.
- Assassination: There are certain tactics required when performing an assassination. Certain hits have to be done right, and certain kills have to be just precise. When it comes to things like this, Mae Li is perfect for the job. Aside from being able to crawl into small spaces and lay low for hours among hours, she can easily take out someone and come off as if a shadow had killed them off. There are many grueling and twisted ways that she has killed people, and she prefers it that way.
- Mental Discipline: It takes supreme willpower, absolute tameness of the mind, complete understanding of the body, and great connection with the spirit to perform half of the things that Mae Li does. She has an awesome power over her own mentality this including her own willpower. Having been put through a lot as a child, she's as twisted and thorned as her siblings, she could probably be even worse than them.
She is extremely focused and does not let any type of obstacle get in her way, unless of course it can't ultimately be helped. She's strong physically, mentally, and emotionally and there isn't much that could tear her down. Pain, it's nothing to her, so long as she stays focused she can easily ignore physical pain or mentally block it out. In short, Mae Li truly is one with her body, mind, heart and soul. - Ambidextrous: Becoming a skilled martial artists takes more than just being able to do the right moves. It also demands that you be able to perform with every part of your body and that includes the non dominant parts. As a child, she has been trained to be able to use both arms, and both legs that way if one should fail then she had the other to use. Being unable to use an arm or a leg was an unacceptable reason to lose, let alone fail in a fight.
- Chinese Lore and Philosophy: Perhaps it's the fact that her whole life has been built upon folklore and astrology. Whatever it may be, it's made Mae Li quite adept in many Chinese folktales and beliefs. Often times she will connect something to something she had learned according to Chinese myth and she believes strongly in it all. After all, it's the very thing that's kept her alive to this day and it has yet to have failed her.
Strength Level: Shi San possesses peak strength for a human of her height and weight.
Weaknesses:
- Only Human: Her ultimate weakness has been shown before. Thanks to her brothers, her susceptibility to poisons and personal fears as forced her into a state of submission that she probably would have never been in were it not for their trickery and deceit. She may be a proficient and lethal martial artists, but behind the fists and flying kicks, she's typically your average female human who can be shot, stabbed, poisoned, and mortally wounded just like any other human.
- Honor Code: Being raised by Huang, Mae Li follows the same honor code that her brothers follow, that being she refrains herself from alcohol, men or other “vices” except for fighting. It is a strict honor code that she is not willing to bring as to not dishonor her already dead father.
- Sibling Rivalry: Despite the fact she could singlehandedly defeat all of her remaining siblings, she is still their mortal enemy and no doubt they are willing to do anything to avenge their dead brother. They may not care for each other, but they can agree on one thing, their resentment towards Mae Li. They've shown that through cheating and playing dirty they could fatally hurt Mae Li, and with their brother dead, they're probably willing to fight as dirty as they possibly can to establish their own sense of honor.
- Fear of Water: The psychological fear of water developed within Mae Li from a very young age. After being forced to fight for her life and only have her brothers point and laugh, Mae Li has a great fear of large bodies of water. Heck even a small flood will trigger that same fear that she felt on that day. Although she can fight it, she can't fully overcome it. It's a fear that will probably stay with her forever and is the only successful form of mental scarring that her brothers had bestowed upon her.
- Poor Communication Skills: Even as a child, Mae Li was very quiet, and extremely silent. She rarely spoke, and when she was spoken to she would simply listen and make small gestures of acknowledgment or for response. Her first language is movement and action, she doesn't talk much partly because as a child she never was given that privilege and party because she hasn't grasped the full concept of a conversation. Now that's not to say she can't carry on a conversation, because she very well can, but that's only if she can actually get into the flow of it.
Other problems she has is her poor ability to react to certain emotions or feelings. She can't necessarily comfort someone and can't tell if someone is expressing admiration to her. She can only understand these things through movement and bodily expressions, and even so she is unable to react to it all in a proper way. She's certainly not the best person to talk to, but if you just want someone to listen and to keep your secrets safe, then Mae Li is your gal.
