History
Lucas Michael was an artificially created life form. He was the result of the secret government experiment known as Project: Genesis. The experiments were on advanced genetics, but more specifically, accelerated evolution.
Over thirty years ago, at the first sightings of super powered beings such as Superman, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman, the US government began making plans. They saw the possible danger that could be posed by super-powered beings and created a secret organization called the Enclave, with the intent of counteracting the threat. They brought in the most brilliant strategists and scientists around the world and considered every possibility, from controlling said beings to destroying them. Eventually, after much debate and politics, they turned their attention and focus to creating their own super-powered beings; beings that the government could control.
Geneticists were brought in from around the globe, pioneer’s in their fields, and research was conducted on the creation of super beings. They went through many tests, such as splicing DNA from various animals with that of humans, and even exposing human embryos with various types of radiation. Although they had some interesting results, the tests themselves were failures. It wasn’t until five years later that the scientists began focusing on accelerated evolution. They knew that humans had more potential. Cases around the world of advanced brain function and cognitive abilities showed that humans could evolve into something better. So with that in mind, they put all their focus, resources, and effort into creating the advanced human, codenamed Project: Genesis.
The goal of the Enclave was to create and subsequently exploit the perfect human. It took them another seven years of tests for their research to finally pay off. That was when Lucas Michael was “born". A Jewish geneticist named Zola Arnon gave Lucas his name, which meant Bringer of light who is like God. At the moment they could see his brainwaves, still less than 25 weeks old, they knew they had created something special.
As Lucas grew within the artificial “womb”, the scientists continually monitored and studied everything about him. As soon as Lucas could hear, they began playing him lectures on various subjects; the sciences, mathematics, history, languages, philosophy, and more. As soon as his eyes opened they began giving him images, again on many of the same subjects as before.
As Lucas continued to grow, many discoveries were made. Lucas was physically much more advanced than a normal human; stronger, faster, accelerated healing, even more resistant to pain and injury. His development was literally superhuman, learning to walk at three months and talk at four. By six months he was speaking fluently, and in multiple languages. By twelve months they had discovered that Lucas remembered everything, and could read books in minutes.
They continued to groom him, teaching him everything they could. Since each scientist was literally a master of their field of study, Lucas also became a master, for they talked to him, debated with him, and eventually learned from him. They liked Lucas, adored him even. There was something about him, some kind of quality that caused those who saw him to be drawn to him, to want to follow him. This only grew stronger as he got older, and his striking looks even added to this feeling.
He learned it all rapidly, and retained every piece of information they gave him. He could recall the minutest detail of something that happened six months ago. He could recite pages of books, down to the very page number, paragraph, and line number. At the age of four he had started combat training, and picked up martial arts and weapons training; he was able to mastere them in weeks, simply by observation and self-practice. During this time, Zola had come a father figure to him, and had given Lucas a very strong moral compass. Zola had set a foundation of morals and ethics that would forever be with Lucas.
The scientists called him a prodigy, and soon that became his nickname.
But then the higher powers within the government learned of the success of Project: Genesis. They grew fearful, just like they had twelve years prior. They wanted to ensure control of Prodigy and the sent agents to ensure his control. They brought in all their experts at brainwashing, as well as technological devices that allowed for mind control.
But Prodigy learned of the new plans. Zola Arnon, the man who had named him, loved him as a son. Zola was fearful for the mental and emotional safety of the now nine-year-old boy. But Lucas was not afraid; he told Zola that their techniques would not work, that he could resist them. Lucas was right, but he never let on. He played along, feigning that he was under their control. He actually enjoyed it, treating it like a game.
The government continued to train him, now with more effort on combat and espionage, and Prodigy started holding back his abilities, not wanting to reveal to them all that he could do, all that he had learned to do. Many years past and then the agents started giving him files on every meta-human and super-human that they knew of. Prodigy found it all fascinating, knowing that there were others like him, who were different. It excited him and he wanted to meet them. However that was not intention of the government. They were raising him up, molding him to be the leader of their new force, the Peacekeepers.
At the age of sixteen they literally laid their plans out before him, explaining that sometime within the next few years they would implement their new plan. They were going to prohibit all super-powered beings from using their powers and create new teams, called Peacekeepers, which would be under their control. They explained their plans to him, asking his for his advice, knowing his advanced mind and knowledge of strategy and warfare could make their plan perfect.
That’s when it occurred to him that he could no longer continue in the ruse. He had to leave, to escape. He told Arnon of his plans, his perfect plans, and said his goodbye.
The next day Prodigy revealed to the agents that he had created a new weapon; a disintegrator, capable of destroying matter. The agents and scientists were amazed. During tests the following day, Lucas showed them how it could disintegrate brick walls and steel bunkers. As he was explaining the weapons properties and capabilities during the testing, and allowing some of the agents to fire it, the one holding the weapon freaked out. He turned the weapon on Lucas and fired, and to the horror of all those present, Lucas was disintegrated!
Lucas found himself in the Nevada desert, being outside the underground facility for the first time in his life. He walked west where he met up with Zola a few hours later. Zola told Lucas that his planned had worked, that no one suspected a thing, they all thought he had been disintegrated. They didn’t understand that Lucas had created the weapon with a few extra features. One allowed it to send a mental control to the holder, which was to fire upon Lucas, and the other was to change the weapon to a teleportation ray, sending Lucas to the desert. After the weapon fired, the internal systems fried and melted themselves, prohibiting any study to reveal its true capabilities.
Lucas had already secured himself a new life; having used the Enclaves computers to create him an identity and a past. Lucas even had dental records, hospital records, tax records, and a bank account.
Since his name was Jewish, giving to him by Zola, he found himself a very rich Jewish family that had been living in France. Mr. Isaac Michael and Mrs. Sara Michael had been one of the original founders and shareholders of the Publicis Groupe, a mulit-billion dollar and multinational advertising and communications company based in France. It is one of the top four advertising groups in the world.
See here for more details on Publicis Groupe
They died the day before Lucas' escape, with no children, no beneficiaries. Lucas created himself an identity, one of Mr. Isaac Michael’s illegitimate son. He happened to find Issac’s DNA in his medical records and manipulated his own lab results, making himself appear to be his son. Since he was the rightful heir, he inherited their entire fortune and estate. Their net worth before including their shares in Publicis was $634 million dollars. After Lucas sold the shares they owned, which amounted to 8% of the company, he added another $2 Billion dollars to his fortune. His net worth was now $2.6 Billion dollars, making him one of the top 300 richest men in the world. It all happened in a matter of hours, from a computer in the Nevada desert.
So Lucas did what any 16-year-old kid would do if he were free, having spent his entire life in an underground secret facility, he traveled the world! The next two years he spent traveling the world, seeing in person all the things that he had read about and watched videos on. It was a great time for him, meeting new people and seeing things for the first time.
He was in Paris when Infinite Crisis occurred. He could see from the events that had occurred, the Battle for Bludhaven, the villains attack on Metropolis, all these things were steps that the government had laid out in order to execute their plans. He knew it was time to stop traveling the world and time to start preparing.
He figured the best course of action would be to infiltrate the government, by working for them, such as the FBI, or CIA. In order to be considered for one of those agencies, he would need to have a degree, and since he was so young, be extraordinary with talent. The talent he had, and the degree he would soon have.
So at the age of eighteen, after having scored perfect on the SATs, Lucas was accepted into Oxford. For the next year he took class after class at an accelerated pace, bypassing most, but taking some for the excitement and experience. He loved meeting new people and enjoyed hearing the debates people had. He hardly joined them, knowing he could end them all in a few minutes with his knowledge, but he would throw out questions, making people come to the correct conclusion just by his simple statements and questions. He learned at this time that he had problems relating to people. His interpersonal skills needed work. He also realized that the opposite sex was attractive, very attractive. They were also very attracted to him, almost falling over themselves when he glanced at them.
In one year Lucas graduated at the top of his class, earning not one degree, but three; and not three bachelor’s degrees, but three PhDs. Lucas earned a Doctorate in Civil Law, a Doctorate of Science, and a Doctorate in Engineering. He also has a Masters degree in Psychology and Philosophy. When he applied for the FBI, he was accepted immediately. After 21 weeks at the FBI Academy in Virginia, receiving the highest clearance possible (nice being able to write your own history for the FBI to read), he was given special privilege to chose where he wanted to go within the FBI. Lucas chose the Critical Incident Response Group (CIRG).
The CIRG is the part of the Federal Bureau of Investigation which facilitates the FBI's rapid response to, and the management of, crisis incidents within the US. The CIRG is designated to formulate strategies, manage hostage or siege situations, and, if humanly possible, resolve them "without loss of life”. CIRG will deploy investigative specialists to respond to terrorist activities, hostage takings, child abductions and other high-risk violent crimes. Other major incidents include prison riots, bombings, air and train crashes, natural disasters, and super-powered criminal activities. It was a perfect job.
Prodigy has just started his FBI job and is working out of New York City. He has also just started vigilante work.
Characteristics
Age: 19
Height: 6’2”
Weight: 210lbs
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Black
Unusual Features: None
Personality: Prodigy is a man with no past, and therefore has no fears about his future. He is extremely eccentric and comes across as a quintessential thrill-seeker, but deep down he will always help others in need and always seeks justice. He will never turn aside when someone needs help. He sees the world with fresh, new eyes, and as such often will seem a little odd or distracted to his companions. At the same time he is oddly intense and focused, especially when he has a task at hand.
He is very cheerful and eternally optimistic, and it's difficult to suppress his enthusiasm for being a super hero. However he is still somewhat naive about superhero matters. He's very brave and doesn't hesitate to put himself in the line of fire to help innocents or his teammates. He may often venture so deeply into thought as to seem detached, and often might be oblivious to the world around him. He is very precise about his descriptions and will often correct others if the shade of meaning is a bit off.
He is very forward and eager to make friends, but he has very little interpersonal skills. Personal relationships, particularly romantic ones, can be his Achilles heel. He is very capable of caring deeply for others, and is willing to spend a great deal of time and effort on a relationship. He doesn’t readily grasp social rituals; for instance, he has little patience and less understanding of such things as small talk and flirtation. Perhaps the most fundamental problem, however, is that he really wants people to make sense. This sometimes results in a peculiar naivete', as he expects inexhaustible reasonability and directness.
Probably his strongest asset in the interpersonal area is his intuitive abilities and his willingness to "work at" a relationship. His natural intuition can often act as a good substitute for empathy by synthesizing the probable meanings behind such things as tone of voice, turn of phrase, and facial expression.
