While regretful, he finds it inevitably acceptable to hospitalize his "victims" for a year or so, just as long as they don't die. His rational is quite simple: a year of that hospital time will do wonders for these usually unsavory individuals and allow them to think over their life decisions. Similarly, an incapacitating, usually excruciating bludgeon to the knee is certainly preferable to death. This voluntary choice to not be an executioner stems a little deeper than a simple moral code. Although he strives to shield the innocent, he is far from saintly in many of his actions. Bruce is often tempted to send all those rotten-to-the-bone crooks to the grave, but he is only fearful that this one push will send him across the edge, opening a can of worms that he will most certainly regret. His crusade against all those agents of destruction and chaos falls short at execution. He will never deal the final blow, preferring to leave the fates of criminals in the hands of lawful judicial systems. On the other hand, he won't cry over spilt milk. If someone dies beyond his direct control, he will move on, regretful as it may be. To him, there is also a thick enough line between actually killing someone and choosing not to save them. He has done the latter before, and he won't despair over himself if he ends up having to do it again. Following the murder of his parents, he harbors a deep-rooted sense of responsibility to invoke his own, personal justice upon those who prey upon the undeserving innocent. He would much rather not see another little boy become subjected to the sufferings that he had, be it a Gothamite or not. Contrary to popular belief, he does work fairly well with others should the need arise. He does his best to veer away from relying on others, but he understands that it is often inevitable (especially since, in Pandora, you know, superpowered baddies and magic and stuff). Otherwise, he is rather successful as a lone-wolf type figure and will kindly ignore people or ask them to bugger off if he doesn't need them around, or if the circumstances are too dangerous to have anyone else involved. Paramount to his psychology are his personal struggles with his dual life. Perhaps the degree will be lessened (or even altogether extinguished) in Pandora, but in Gotham, the mantle of Batman has been an inconceivably heavy one. With the inevitable sacrifice of his personal life, the original Bruce Wayne of his childhood and early adulthood seems to have diminished night by night. He no longer lives for the man named "Bruce Wayne", but for Batman, and for Gotham. DOCUMENTED HISTORY The young Bruce Wayne had everything a child could ask for; a good home, a bright future, and, of course, loving parents. This all changed one night outside the Monarch Theater. Bruce's father and mother, Thomas and Martha Wayne, were gunned down in a random act of violence by a low-level crook named Joe Chill. Later, Chill was arrested for another crime, and killed by a mob boss during his trial. It was these events that set the stage for the coming of Batman. Once he turned 14, Bruce went into intensive training to strengthen his body and mind. He studied at the most prestige schools and received training in various forms of martial arts from various trainers, man-hunting from a Frenchman named Henri Ducard, stealth and reconnaissance from a ninja named Kiriji, and other forms of hunting from African Bushmen. Bruce was even i the FBI for a short time. Finally he returned to Gotham ready to combat crime and stop the type of chaotic violence that claimed his parents' life. Looking to strike fear in criminals, Bruce choose the symbol of the bat, something he himself feared as a child. With the creation of the Bat-Suit and an impressive arsenal of weaponry and technology, including the Batmobile and Bat-Cave, Bruce became Batman, a masked vigilante who stood on the edge of that fine line of the law to take down Gotham's worst. Though he began as a loner, over the years Batman has come to work with others. The first being his faithful servant and second father, Alfred Pennyworth, Commissioner Jim Gordon, and D.A. Harvey Dent. Later, Batman aided and eventually joined the Justice League. Batman also gradually took in and trained the likes of Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon, Tim Drake, Jason Todd, Cassandra Cain, Stephanie Brown, and his own son Damian Wayne. The latter group, along with Bruce and Alfred, has come to lovingly be known as the Bat-Family. POWERS AND ABILITIES KNOWN POWERS: NO KNOWN POWERS KNOWN ABILITIES: Though he does not posses any innate superhuman abilities, Batman is considered by many (even Superman) to be among the most dangerous men in the world. Throughout the many years that he has been around, Batman has become one of the most powerful human beings in the DC Universe, despite having no superhuman powers at any time in his life. Starting at the age of 14, Bruce began to train with brilliant minds on the planet to learn about Science, Biology, Criminology, and other areas that would help him become the World's Greatest Detective. Batman is also a master of stealth, disguise, and escapology. He has infiltrated high security strongholds and systems including Lexcorp. He has vanished in plain sight from regular humans and metahumans, such as Azrael. His stealth skills are so great that that even groups of superheroes such as the Legion of Super Heroes have been unable to locate him. To acquire all of these skills, Bruce needed money. When his parents died, Bruce inherited millions of dollars from the Wayne Fortune which he later turned into billions through investing. Bruce owns and runs Wayne International, as well as Batman Incorporated. Batman is considered to be the "World's Greatest Detective," solving the biggest secrets with small or large amounts of data. He's also fluent in many different languages such as English, Spanish, French, Russian, German, Japanese, Chinese, and others. Batman has been said to be trained in every martial art known to man, and out of every single one of those forms of fighting he knows 127 that are deadly. These 127 are the main forms of fighting that make up his normal fighting style. He is known to change his styles in order to become unpredictable to his opponents. Because of his training Batman has also mastered nearly all weapons known to man, even most firearms. Batman's combat skill surpasses most metahumans and normal men, and he even knows every pressure point and nerve strike in the human body, as well as dim mak ("death touch") techniques. These can cause dangerous pain to his enemies which can lead to dizziness, numbness, unconsciousness, temporary paralysis, disorientation, and even death. Due to his intense training and diet Batman has accomplished feats that normal human beings might call superhuman. Batman is in peak physical and mental condition. Batman has displayed surprising strength, and is able to bench press weight of at least 1000 pounds, and has personally stated that his maximum leg press weight is 2500 lbs (over 1.133 Kg). However, as shown in Batman Odyssey # 2, Batman was able to overcome his personal record leg press, moving, with the strength of the legs, a stuck railroad car. In Gotham After Midnight # 2, Batman was able to hold up two golden sarcophagi with the approximate weight of at least 1 ton, for at least one minute. In addition, Batman is an accomplished gymnast and acrobat, though not quite at the level of Nightwing. Batman's training and peak condition mean he's very fast, both in combat and on his feet. This speed combined with his strength, make him phenomenally powerful; even the enhanced assassin Deathstroke has commented upon the power and skill of the Batman. EXAMINATION RECORD Universes had merged in the blink of an eye. People had blinked into existence. Heroes and villains were seemingly appearing out of no where. More threats had decided to make their presence known. As the scientific community looked to explain the bizarre phenomena, Bruce had been hard at work figuring out each potential threat to both Gotham and the world. Of course, he didn't shy away from his original duty of protecting Gotham. Needless to say, though, the man hadn't had too much sleep since the merger. Bruce Wayne had made a few public appearances. Mostly denying the rumors of him running for some sort of political office. The thought had popped into his mind more than once, but he'd never do it. There was no way he was going to fight the corruption of taking a higher office. Gordon, who was merely commissioner, had to deal with a very critical level of corruption in Gotham's police force. And even that seemed like a battle that he'd never win. Batman had his hands full with Gotham and the Justice League, therefore he wouldn't have enough time to run a country. Much less a city. Besides, Batman was much more suitable to fight crime in the shadows. Not the public. It was much easier to do it the way Batman wanted to. After managing a mere hour of sleep, Bruce woke up as the sun was beginning to set. The alarm on his bedside had woken him up. For the most part, he didn't really sleep. Mostly tossed and turned around his bed. Thoughts of possible threats to the world roamed in his mind. In this kind of situation, he wouldn't be getting any type of sleep. It really did not affect the man too much. Lack of sleep had never truly been a problem to him. He was Batman and Bruce Wayne. One spent a ton of time out and about during the day, and the other hunted down criminals during the night. It was more than likely that Bruce hadn't had a good night's sleep in years. Not that he truly wanted one. Without sleep, he had been able to accomplish many things. Batman had struck out against the criminals of Gotham, and he did not plan to stop doing that anytime soon. Besides, it wasn't like it had any sort of negative impacts on his health. Once he started to see the negatives, he'd likely have to start to add a few minutes to the amount of sleep he gain. Not now, though. There was far too much to do. Slinking into the Batcave, Bruce quickly noticed that a robbery had taken place. An alarm had been set off. Some jewelry store had been burglarized. Thanks to some detective work, he had been able to set up the alarms. The thieves weren't hiding their future crimes very well. When the same car shows up at the same place over and over again, it was a little suspicious. It became even more suspicious when a different person came out of the car. Criminals had no idea of being subtle. Bruce had seen them when passing the street on one of his Wayne patrols. Lurking outside of a place of business had the odd ability to attract attention. After the last man had made his appearance, Bruce had followed the van to the man's house. One interrogation later and Bruce knew all there needed to know about the thieves plans. They weren't very solid, and they basically just felt like making some money. Obviously, it wasn't going to work. Batman had planted an alarm in the shop. They had triggered it. Batman was going to make sure they didn't make off with anything. Upon reaching the store, Bruce noticed the five men on the ground just a few feet away from it. They had been attacked and rendered unconscious. Someone had gotten to them. It could have been a large number of villains. At least, that's what one person would think at first glance. Though, Batman instinctively knew who it was. A certain feline had managed to make her way over to the shop before Batman could show up. Selina Kyle was roaming the streets once more. Though, he still had no idea why she still wished to steal. From her past jobs and Bruce's assistance, she could live a rather nice life now. It seemingly did not stop her from her stealing ways. Much to Batman's annoyance. Even more to his annoyance, she had managed to get under his skin. For what seemed like the first time in years, Batman had felt affection to someone not immediately in his family. His feelings towards her bordered on an affection that Bruce had never wanted to feel again. Much less to someone who had been an enemy of his for years. Despite their constant fighting, their nights usually ended in the same way. A little fun on the rooftop. Something that managed to distract him from being the protector of Gotham. Just for several hours. Far from the store, Bruce had finally spotted Selina. Sitting on a rooftop. To some, it didn't seem normal. But Batman had more than expected her to be there. Well, though he hated to admit it, he wanted her to be there. Since the merger, he had not seen her. That was something he wanted to do. For some reason, he hated spending time away from her. It was unlike him to feel that way, but those were just thoughts he could not push away. Despite the many times he had tried to believe that he held no affection towards Selina, he knew that he could never believe his own lies. Selina would always have her claw in his heart. Never letting go. Within seconds, Bruce found himself on the roof. Eyes gazing at Selina. She was merely standing there. The woman almost seemed harmless. Not that he'd ever describe her that way. Catwoman was far from harmless. Perhaps, it was a reason he had gravitated to her. She could take of herself, and he liked her for that. Standing only a few feet away, Bruce managed to break the silence of the night. One word formed on his lips. The only thing that mattered to him. at the moment.
