Hal: Yes, Mom, I know that it’s almost 10 degrees below. I know that I need to dress in layers. I was in the Air Force, remember? Survival skills and all that? I’m a Captain? I love you too. Bye.
Hanging up the phone, Hal Jordan sighs knowing that the mothering instinct will never go away. If only that Power Ring of his would be able to adjust the mothering mood, he’d be doing all right. Taking a step to the right, Hal picks up the TV remote and changes the channel until he reaches the local news.
Newscaster: ………. In other news, Ferris Industries has announced the arrival of a new jet fighter plane that reports say is revolutionary in design. No word yet on what makes this plane such a step forward but we’re keeping tabs on this story. And in football, the Coast City Colts have lost their fourth straight away game, this time being bested by the Star City Seagulls in what can only be called a blow-out. Weather and financial news coming up after the break.
A new aircraft. Heh, Hal thought. That aircraft has been in the shop now for almost 3 months. I’ve flown it for almost 2 of them. Well, flown isn’t the right word. Controlled is a better word. And with all the adjustments we’ve made, we can’t even call it the same plane anymore.
Turning off the TV, Hal sits and ponders what to do with the rest of his day. Head to Guy’s bar and have a chat with ‘ol hothead maybe. Or maybe I’ll go see a hockey game at the arena. I think the juniors are playing.
Making a decision to see the game, Hal grabs his brown leather flight jacket, inlaid with fur around the collar, and a scarf for his neck. Then, grabbing a pair of winter gloves, Hal grabs his house keys and walks to the door.
The air is crisp and slightly windy, causing his warm cheeks to turn a slight rose color. His breath is clearly visible and deep breaths are difficult to take in the low cold temperature. Dressing warm was the right decision after all, and Hal ponders if he should have brought a blanket to sit on while at the game. People walking past him generally pay Hal no notice, some smile and nod, others wish him a good day. Hal never misses a good day back with a bright smile however and continues his walk to the arena. After a good twenty five minute walk, he arrives at the arena where the hockey team is playing and reaches the ticket counter, standing in line to purchase a ticket.
(Looking for something to occur that will cause Hal to miss the game and force a Green Lantern interference. Bank robbbery, car jacking, world domination, can be anything.)
