Sometimes the watchtower was the best place to clear your head. While it was not easy to get Vic to leave the orbiting Space Station. Kal had managed to convince him to finally head down to STAR Labs for a much needed diagnostic check. While Kal was not one himself to attempt to force the young hero to a place that he knew he hated the idea of spending just an hour or so on the tower clearing his head was something he was not able to turn down. Plus Cyborg really needed the check up, Kal hated the idea of him not being able to function when needed most because a routine check up would have been missed. This was a point that Bruce had brought up more than once before, it was something that Kal had reminded him of. It was enough to encourage Vic to head down to the Lab.
For the moment he pushed the thoughts of Victor Stone from his mind as he stepped out of the airlock having taken one final breath of air. Entering the Cold embrace of space Superman, earth’s protector floated out while looking down on the planet below him. The light of this planet’s yellow sun blessed him with the needed fortitude that allowed him to enter space without any needed protection. In space there was no sound, it was one of the few places that he was able to go and not hear anything. Here he was able to think and not be interrupted by anything else.
Xara had provided him with a crystal that outlined a very detailed history of her life before arriving at this world. She sought to remain here in this world rather than find a means to return to her own world. Kal was not sure what that meant to him, it was clear that she viewed herself as a much more Kryptonian being than he did himself. It also seemed to be that she sought to guide mankind, rule them almost. That was the fact about her that gave him pause, that was the thing he needed to consider, what did it mean to this planet that someone like her was around? For the first time ever Kal had found someone that was like him, and he was not sure what to do about it. Superman; Clark Kent; Kal-El these three beings were no stranger to conflict but that did nothing to make him feel better about this. This was something he could not hit or argue his way out of. This was something that could break the world if he did not find ways to sort this out, but that did not help him understand why he was so conflicted? Was this his chance to restart Krypton? Was this his chance to have a home of like minded peers? Despite himself Kal understood that he could not leave Earth. His lives here were not ideal, but they were his. He would miss his friends Jimmy, Lois, the League, but he was sure that they would all be able to go on without him. But was he ready to help bring back a lost race like the Kryptonians? What would that mean for the universe at large?
Xara had no connections to this world Kal understood that, but did he have enough to stay here?

Diana Princes, Princess of Themsycria, had decided to spend the night in her room at the Watch Tower. It was a simple design of Greek influence, most of the artifacts located in the room where brought here by Diana from her home in the island of women. It wasn't often that Diana spent time in this room, most times she stayed in her apartment in Man's world and when she really wanted to get away she went home and spent time with her sisters. Today was different however, for two reasons. One she wanted to get away to just think and be left alone for a moment; two it was her turn to be on call. So what better ways than to have a little time to herself than to use her watch tower time?
The problem right now was that she just couldn't sleep. She just laid there in the queen size bed they had placed in the room, looking up at that ceiling. Everything was quiet, there was no sound to be heard in her room, and every room was like that. It allowed the heroes that decided to find rest in the tower a chance to remove themselves from everything, so the rooms where sound proof. Meaning no sound could escape from the room and none would come in unless the doors where open. If someone needed to be called upon or if something happened each room had a speaker system to alert them. The quiet was nice but sometimes it was annoying, nothing to focus your mind on. This was Diana's problem tonight, she was restless and many things where running threw her brain allowing her no rest.
Letting a sigh she turned to her right side, flipping the covers up over her shoulders and faced the window. Everyone's room had a window projector on it, even if one didn't have a true window that could show them the space just outside; these windows where the top of the line, projecting any scene in the world (or other worlds) that the person would want to view. Tonight Diana had decided on a pleasant view of a mountain with a hidden waterfall, something that reminded her of home but different. It was pleasant to look at, but yet the fact she knew it wasn't real didn't help to put her mind at ease.
Deciding sleep was not going to come; Diana pushed the blankets off of her and placed her feet on the floor. "Lights." She called out into the darkness, and within moments lights turned themselves on in the room. Diana stood slowly, her white nightgown hem hitting her ankles as she stood, and moved toward the window. She hugged herself for a moment, as if she was cold, wondering what it was that seemed to keep her awake tonight. It was as if something was telling her to stay awake, for what reason she didn't know. With a slight sigh, Diana turned quickly in the middle of the room. Her white nightgown disappearing to revel her traditional red, blue, and gold Wonder Woman costume. Deciding that it was best to find something to do with her time, Wonder Woman left her tower room and headed off toward the main brain of the building; the command center.
Once she reached there she was amazed to find that no one was currently commanding the post, where had Victor gone. Settling down in one of the computer chairs there, Diana got to work finding out where Victor had gone to, and why he had left; not knowing that Superman wasn't very far away.

True silence was a luxury that Superman was rarely afforded. Thanks to his telescopic vision he was able to watch the world below him with ease without the use of the various monitor’s in the Watchtower. ARGUS still also had a means by which to alert him as needed if something he could not see from space where to come up, but for the moment at hand there were no such issues and for that Superman was thankful. Superman blinked for the first time in who knew how long and felt the ice that had formed on his face shatter as the muscles in his face moved for the first time in some time. Exhaling with one mighty breath, the force created by him releasing the air stored in his lungs provided an easy jump start of momentum that allowed him to fly back to the Watchtower’s airlock. One reaching the door to the airlock he quickly keyed in the authorization sequence that would allow him to reenter the floating fortress.
Within the span of a few minutes he was back inside the sterile metallic structure and making his way back to monitor room. While watching over the earth with his own eyes there were a few situations that he wanted to check on as he was not sure how local response crews were doing. There was a sinking ship off the cost of England, a forest fire in California and a few other little points of attention that it seemed that emergency crews should be able to handle. It had taken Superman sometime to understand that just because it seemed like he could be everywhere all the time did not mean that he should be. The people of Earth needed to feel like they still had control of their life, that the things that they could do had meaning. That meant allowing the police and trained crews responded to the emergencies where possible. Superman could not save everyone everywhere that was a cold hard truth of the job, for the places where he might fall short it was good to note that there were brave men and women that were ready to risk their own lives and safety to fill in the places he could not be or get to.
With the heroes that lived on the Earth now, and the growing meta-human population that seemed to be growing everyday maybe the time was coming where Superman would be able to leave this world and not worry about its wellbeing, could it be that his time on Earth was coming to an end? Pa had said before that in life everything happened for a reason. Was this was Xara was here? Was she showing him a way out of the life he was living? Was his adopted world slowly readying itself for life without him? In some respect Superman understood that he should be relieved by such a thought, but he also had to come to terms with the idea that knowing that meant that he would have to make some firm decisions about his recent findings on the death and possible rebirth of Krypton.
Superman allowed his thoughts to fall away for a moment as he noticed Wonder Woman in the monitor room. She appeared to be very focused on the task at hand based on the manner that she was attempting to query information from the computer servers. “Is everything alright?” Superman asked with a light note of concern in his voice. It was well known that Diana did not have a wide assortment of relationships that she kept public enough that she would use the Watchtower systems to locate them. Superman noted that was something that very well might have in common. “Is it urgent? When Victor gets back from STAR I am sure that he will be able to help out. I only sent him down for some routine service, I am sure we can call him back up.” Superman offered as he used his great speed to close the gap between them without trying to get close enough that it may look like he was trying to see what she was doing. Superman had no reason to intrude on whatever it was that she was doing if she did not want him too. Victor and Batman had long ago shown themselves to be the more technically minded members of the league it made the most sense to have one of them aide you if ever you found yourself looking for something. As Superman waited for her response he noticed a flashing alert on one of the other monitors that indicated what appeared to be a warning of a mudslide in Chile that might also demand some of his attention.

Diana paid no attention as the monitors indicated that someone had entered the tower, but it was a friendly sound. Meaning that whoever entered were a friend and not a foe, for even if a foe was somehow able to get up here and inside the systems where so advance they would warn everyone. All it took was pretty much the scanning of the person to be wrong. Since it didn't ping the person to be a foe, Diana didn't even look up from her work to see who it was. After all if she did that every time someone came into the tower she would never be able to get any work done.
It would just be moments later that she would hear the door of the monitor room open and the footsteps of someone walking into the room. It wasn't until she heard Superman's voice that Diana looked up from her work, giving him a half smile. "Nothing I can see at the moment, just trying to figure out all this so called technology that man's world seems to relay on so much." Diana answered turning her attention back to the computer screens. She had lived in man's world a few times over the different centuries but it wasn't until more resent that she kept a more permit residents, and with this century it was all about computers. Diana knew her way around computers but these in the watch tower were so far advanced that there were no other computers in the world like them; well maybe in Batman's batcave. "Nothing urgent, just wishing to learn something new in order to make myself better for helping others." Diana answer clicking away on the computer again, learning quickly how with different key strokes and such different things happened. "No need to call him up, I'm sure he could use some time off." Diana hit a few more keys and finally turned to face the man of steel. Looking at him for a moment the once warm smile that had graced her perfectly formed Greek lips faded, for clearly there was something on Superman's mind and she could just feel that it was a heavy decision. "Question is Superman, do you need help of some kind?"
She had asked in order to open the door for him to talk about whatever was troubling him, but the trouble with working in the watch town you sometimes get interrupted. This happened to be the case as a warning sound went off alerting them to a mud slide in Chile. Using her new found knowledge for the computer; though it would never be as good as Batman or Victor; Wonder Woman was able to call up the information. "Looks like it's time to go to work." Their conversation would have to wait a moment, as she pushed away from the desk and dashed off down the hall to the teleportation area. Diana didn't know if Superman was going to come along or not, it wasn't really a two man job but she would never say no to help. She just couldn't wait around to find out because people needed her and they needed her now.

Clark paused for a moment. He was not sure how best to reply to Wonder Woman's question. She was clearly able to read his face and determine that there was something on his mind. It was not surprising that a woman kind Diana was able to read him so easily she was a smart strong woman that may not have been use to men and their ways but she understood warriors. Was this something that he coiukd really turn to someone else for help with? Diana was his friend and ally there was no disputing that as far as he was concerned. But for most of the members of the League their was a point you did not cross when discussing and dealing with each. Clark could not see the harm in sharing with Diana if she was ok with listening. Though the Man of Steel had to realize that he was not sure he knew the right words to convey the right message. At the moment it felt like he was of two minds, but this very well could be just the sort of thing that Diana would understand having joined a new world herself not that long ago.
Clark took a steadying breath as he tried to find the words to express the thought that were on his mind. But it would seem that he would find himself saved by the bell as he understood the expression to be said. A mudslide was something that was clearly more pressing than anything that he had to speak on at the moment. Pursing his lips for a moment he found himself turning in the direction of the airlock. "Victor is not here, I can get us there fast enough that a few seconds out in space should not be a problem." Clark was going to have to carry Diana to make it in enough time. While they held a very similar power set Clark was much faster and without the aide of the boomtube he was the fastest mode of transportation.
Clark headed in the direction of airlock with a solid sense of urgency. One Diana arrived he planned to simply gather her on his arms and speed off to the planet below. As long as he held her close enough Clark was confident that Diana should be sufficiently protected from both the void and the heat of re-entry.
"No rest for the wicked as they say." Clark mused as he held out a hand to Wonder Woman gently becoming her to take the plung with him. It was odd that there were few beings living that Clark would ever risk something like this with. Not many other people could stand the physical strain of moving around the world in the fashion that he did. It was odd to think about how easily he accepted Diana into these risks. It was nice to know that at the very least the pair of them were compatible enough to work together and protect their adoptive home.

Diana turned back to her work for a moment, in order to give Clark time to think over her offer. She had learned that men needed time to consider an offer from time to time, and it wasn't a good thing to rush them. There were time however when a man did make rash and quick dictions but normally she found when she asked them a question they needed time to consider it for a moment. Though she wasn't looking at him, Diana could almost feeling his mind pouring over her idea, the pros and cons about the whole thing. It took him a matter of moments before Diana heard him take a steadying breath, it was clear he had decided to share what was bothering him. Diana ready herself to put her work to the side and give a listen ear to whatever problem the man of steel wished to bare. Before he could even open his mouth the start speaking whatever what on his mind, the computers went off with a warning bell; along with flashing lights and the computers taking over to show what it was alerting them to the current danger that the Earth was finding itself in. Diana didn't have to do anything, Bruce and Victor had set this system up so that anything important the computers would already do all the work for them; all they would have to do is read over the specs and send out the right people for the task. Diana was already out of her set and getting ready to head to the boom tube, in order to type in the location to take her to the mud slide, but stopped when Clark recommended that he could get them there faster. Their bodies were different, he could make it in space where her body couldn't so well; not to mention she would need air. The choice before here was to either trust Clark or not, well they were team mates and it was apparent that he was somehow hurting inside so her choice was clear. Turning quickly and grabbing a air mask off the wall to insure she had enough air while in space, Diana followed Clark into the airlock.
Diana strapped on the air mask, making sure it worked, than took Clark's hand; she trusted him and showed it as she moved closer to him. She knew he would have to hold her closer in order to make sure that she was protected from the coldness of space as well as the heat of the reentry, truth was if anyone else tried this with him they would end up dead and if he didn't protected her right she could end up the same way. "Oh the wicked rest, for it takes less time for them to cause mayhem than it is for us to fix it."

As Diana took his hand after placing an air mask on. Clark understood that time was of the essence. As Clark paused for a moment to offer a half smile as the Princess before him offered her own counter to his saying. Clark supposed that in her own way she was not wrong about that. Perhaps indeed there was no rest for the righteous. Gathering Wonder Woman in his arms he prepared for their descent to Earth as the pressure in the airlock shifted. “You might want to close your eyes.” Clark offered somewhat helpfully as the last of the air left the chamber. Superman held her closer shielding her with both his body and the field that surrounded his own body. Once the door’s of the tower opened they were off.
When moving at super speeds it often seemed easier to gage time in the span of heart beats rather than in regular measures of time. Honestly there was no real way to gage how time passed when you performed whole actions in a fraction of a second. by the first thump of Diana’s heart against his side the pair had exited the watchtower and where dropping through the upper Layers of the Earth’s atmosphere. Superman had already started exhaling as they pushed their way through the planets invisible barrier. The wind bubble he created with the subtle exhale, not unlike whistling was enough to form shield that would absorb most of the heat from reentry. This way Clark was able to make sure that while they would still make a fireball, it would be around them rather than be composed of them.
By the second soft thump against his side Clark had released his breath in a quick short burst that had broken the previous flame bubble that had surrounded them and had started the process of slowing down. It was odd to note that as a boy the idea behind flying had been so foreign to him, but now such advanced maneuvers as a high speed reentry had become second nature to the Man of Steel. By the time he had felt the third thump against his side he and his passenger were set down on on solid ground once more. Grim faced he looked out at the destruction before him.
“I am going to see what I can do to slow this mud down, see if you can help the survivors get out of the area.” Superman suggested as he turned his gaze and the heat vision that it directed to the still moving and wet onslaught of earth. His hope was to dry it enough to slow some of the progress while they tried to get people to safety.

As Clark took Diana’s hand she could see how in that brief moment, the women in man’s world reaction to him. He was clearly what women dreamed of when they thought of their dream man. Diana was a different however as she had grown up on a island full of women, and men were not though to too highly there. Most of the women had been born from the souls of women that had died before their time; and many from the hands of a man. Her own mother, the queen, had suffered death from her husband in her life before Themyscria, and those feelings still stayed with the women.
When Clark took Diana into his arms, she had to admit it was little weird; for lack of better words. She wasn’t use to a man picking her up as if she was a doll, or was she use to the fact that her very life was right now in his hands and she had to trust him. She wasn’t a damsel in distress like other women in men’s world, for she had gifts and powers granted to her by the gods themselves that made her stronger than most mortal men. But now she was depending on someone else to protect her and see to her safety, not to mention she wasn’t use to being held like this though she wouldn’t lie that it was a little nice though she didn’t allow her mind to read anything into it.
As the last air left the chambers Diana closed her eyes as Clark has instructed her too. She could feel the stillness around her. Unable to help herself she took a deep breath from her air mask, grateful to see that it was working and that her lunge would receive the wonderful life giving air that she needed. She could feel Clark’s arms encircle her body, using his body to protect her from the space outside as he lifted himself and her into the air and toward the Earth.
The two were moving so fast, that to Diana it didn’t even seem as if they were moving. She could feel some of the air and the heat that came from reentering the Earth, but not like she was use to feeling when she flew on her own. It was fast enough that in reality a person couldn't even tell they were moving unless they knew what to look for, which Diana did. In two heart beats they had left the watch tower and landed on earth, that's all it took was two of her heart beats and it was over. Diana could feel the ground below her feet now, as Clark gently sat her down. Opening her eyes she could see they where on earth, and with one swift movement she took of the air mask; no longer needing it.
"I am going to see what I can do to slow this mud down, see if you can help the survivors get out of the area.”
Diana raised an eyebrow as he mentions her helping the survivors as if she couldn't take care of herself; he was around normal women way to off like that woman reporter friend of his. But realizing that this wasn't the time to pick a fight or to argue, right now was the time for action. So Wonder Woman took off from the ground and flew in the directions of the survivors.

Kal could feel the pause in Diana before she set off to work helping getting the civilians to safety. Had he said something wrong when addressing her before? Kal knew that now was not the time to worry about that now. Applying the heat vision to the onslaught of wet earth was indeed slowing it down, but Clark knew this was not the best fix. It would make it harder for others to come in behind them and find more survivors. Clark needed direct the mudslide away from the more populated areas now and get to aiding Diana in the rescue. Diving into the ground quickly Clark quickly carved a path that would help to drive off the mudflow. It should be enough to stop the mud from overtaking what was left of this particular town.
Rising out of the ground Clark quickly shook his head removing some excess dirt from his hear. Once more getting back into the air Clark moved over to Diana’s direction seeing as she had already done a great job of getting the rest of the populace to a safe place. Landing by the Amazon Princess Clark thought it best to express some appreciation for what she had done. “Thanks for the help, I could not have done that without you.” Clark offered a sincere note of thanks. “It looks like they might have it from here.” Clark concluded after surveying the rescue efforts in place. There was more they could do but it was clear that things could be easily handled from here. Clark was sure that it was time for them to move on, there was a whole world out here that was a whole world beyond here that seemed to need him.
“What do you say we get back to that discussion?” Clark asked as he offered an outstretched hand. He was ready to take his leave of this place. Batman had done quite a job of impressing upon member of the League their importance of doing their job and not overstaying their welcome. That was something that Clark had did his best to practice when presented the chance to do so.
