That’s the first impression that Veronica Cale exhumes to people, new and old. She is recognized as one of the single most self-confident and durable people that anyone will ever meet, it’s her determined demeanor that makes her both admirable and respectable among friends and colleagues. On a superficial level, Cale is recognized for her hard work and the amount of effort that she puts into just about anything. People admire her altruism and most of her closest friends or employees will tell you she is one of the sweetest and responsible people that they have ever met. Veronica is everything anyone wants to be, she’s the mary sue of real world and no one can deny her that title. Underneath this perfect and moderately real façade, Veronica Cale harbors a severe obsession with success and rising above and beyond general expectations even her own. Her childhood has manifested this sense of entitlement where Veronica whole heartedly believes that if anyone should be rewarded the American success story, the Wonder Woman of this day and age it is her. This deep rooted obsession has made it her top priority to retain her spot and while this type of perseverance is admirable it has also driven her to a relative point of insanity. Her whole life is dedicated to besting others, all while maintaining this public image of perfection. And Veronica will even go so far as to get her hands just a little dirty to retain her position and she won’t hesitate to take out anyone who opposes her, even close friends. Despite this deep psychological problem, Veronica is still a compassionate woman who does only care for the well-being of anyone that is considered close. At the end of the day, she doesn’t want to be alone and so while she can go a little overboard with her feelings she is capable of forgiving and sometimes forgetting. Smart, beautiful and positively charming, Veronica Cale is indefinitely the epitome of success and fortitude and as such it will take a lot to mentally break her down. While she retains a clear head and makes most of her decisions without an emotional viewpoint, Cale has done things that have haunted her caused her to break down. The release of the four horsemen and the recognition of the damage she was partially responsible for brought Cale into a state of shock that almost brought her to the end of her life. Although spared, she suffered a mild mental breakdown but has since recovered and become a renewed woman bent on righting her wrongs and is ever more confident in upholding her status as the Wonder Woman. DOCUMENTED HISTORY Laura Cale was born into a typical Southern family in Amarillo, Texas. Her father worked in a meat packing factory and her mother worked late hours at the local diner. She had a rather typical upbringing and like any other small town, country girl she had dreams of making it to the big screen and walking amongst the stars. She was an ambitious young woman and often let her dreams overrule her ability to succeed. By the age of 16 she decided that Amarillo education just wasn’t hacking it, dropped out and moved to Dallas to try her hand at life in a bigger city. The big city wasn’t as welcoming to the young Laura. In Dallas she was quickly kicked to the streets and found herself penniless since the abandonment of her parents. Left to fend for herself, Laura got into the best acting gig she could at the time – a stripper at Lace Lounge in downtown Dallas. It wasn’t the career she was looking for, but Cale learned that getting money from sleazy old men was the easiest way to pay for a roof over her head. Lace Lounge was also an upscale gentleman’s lounge and Laura Cale was fortunate enough to cater to the wealthiest of men. She immediately became a customer favorite and without much choice, Cale made it her career of sorts. Her “dancing career” brought her the audience of a wealthy gentlemen named Jeffrey Pratt. He immediately took a liking to Laura and adored the young woman. He adorned Laura with money and attention and even though he was married, he convinced Laura that he loved her and that someday he would take the young Cale away from all this and to a better lifestyle. Pratt was smitten with Cale, so much that even on business trips he would send her letters and remind her of the promises he had made. Laura was convinced, and she was so happy to learn that her charming prince on a white horse would someday whisk her away. The dream was very real for Laura Cale, and she believed Pratt on his every word until the day she learned he had impregnated. Excited about this news, she quickly told him, hoping that this would be the thing to finally seal their fairytale story. But it wasn’t and Pratt assured Laura Cale that he wanted nothing to do with her or his unborn child. Pratt made sure to instill this in Laura with a simple backhand and from that day Laura understood just exactly where her life was going. Despite the darkness and deception, Laura carried her child for nine months and finally gave birth to a beautiful and healthy baby girl. She loved the baby on first sight and knew that even though she had experienced pain, things would be better now. Laura named her daughter Veronica, believing that the child’s name would hold true and this young girl would accomplish what Laura had not. Veronica Cale would be victorious. Veronica was raised in a humble, single parent home. Her mother was fortunate enough to get welfare to help pay for her child’s upbringing and for extra cash she found work by cleaning homes. Although Veronica’s mother wasn’t educated, she took she initiative to give her daughter as much opportunity as she could. From a young age, Veronica always had a book in her hand or being read to her as part of her mother’s encouragement to strive for something better. She was taught by her mother that she could be anything and do anything if she was smart and worked hard enough. Most of all, Veronica was taught that in order to succeed she had to want it bad enough. Fortunately for Veronica she was born with a rather special gift. She was smart, too smart for her school district, but too poor to actually exercise her ingenuity. Despite the apparent road block in life, Veronica made efforts in receiving better opportunities to enrich herself. She would volunteer at the local hospital, doctor offices, library – anywhere that would take a girl her age with her brains a chance. Fortunately, her mother’s home cleaning business gave the pair a good set of contacts, so everyone was willing to help out the poor little Cale girl. Life was relatively normal for Veronica until the age of fourteen when her mother became ill and was no longer able to work. Recognizing the terminal path her mother was currently on, Veronica took matters into her own hands. Pratt did not remain long forgotten within the Cale household. Laura was sure to share the story of Veornica’s father and she spared no details on just how vile her father was. It was a tale of caution and it was a story that would teach Veronica to not make the same mistakes as her mother. It was at this time, in the shadow of her mother’s sickness that Veronica decided it was time for Pratt to take responsibility in this relationship. Veronica paid a visit to Pratt in his luxurious new home in Houston. The man was disgruntled to see the fourteen year old girl, but despite all his business sense he found himself being blackmailed by his own daughter and handing over a generous sum of money to his abandoned family. The Cale household had struck gold, but even that money wasn’t enough to save Veronica’s mother. At the age of sixteen, Veronica lost the only person that mattered in her life to cancer. All hope was not lost however, Veronica’s ingenuity earned her an early admission into Harvard and at the time she was one of the youngest women to be admitted to the institution. She followed her mother’s advice, and worked hard to earn her first PH.D at 19 and her second and third at 21 and 22 respectively. Cale did not stop there, at 24 she made her first real fortune by selling a medical tracking program she created to Wayne Tech. Using those profits she founded her own software company which published computer games. With her continued profits she used the rest of her fortune as an investment and by 26 Veronica Cale and her partner, Leslie Anderson founded Cale – Anderson Pharmaceuticals. By the time Veronica reached 28 she was worth one hundred million dollars. Her rough upbringing made Veronica modest and humble and most of her profits were generously spread around to countless charities, grants and scholarships – all with the intent to help everyone and anybody succeed. Veronica Cale was the American Success story, she was the epitome of the American Dream, she was the woman all women emulated – that is until Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman stole the spotlight. Veronica Cale resents Wonder Woman for finding acceptance in a patriarchal society so easily. Dr. Cale also views Diana’s message for peace as simplistic reasoning which is easy to proclaim when someone like Diana is a super strong demi-goddess that can end her conflicts with a few hard hitting punches. However, Cale’s resentment toward Diana runs further than just petty envy. Cale's hatred of Wonder Woman seems to be founded on competition because she believes that if there is a Wonder Woman then it can only be her. Cale's tragic childhood also plays a factor in Cale’s way of thinking. Her father left before she was born, her mother died early of cancer but Cale was able to gain a number of doctorate degrees and became a self-made female millionaire as well as a philanthropist. Cale believes that her accomplishments should have made her more worthy of the people’s reverence than being born into fame and fortune like Diana was. When Diana wrote Reflections, a study of Amazon philosophy, Dr. Cale sought to discredit Wonder Woman by using Diana's controversial new book. Dr. Cale uses selected quotations from the book to spin the media against Diana. Cale became the book's most outspoken critic and she loses the debate with Diana no less. Afterwards, Cale arranges to have the book's proponents killed at a demonstration which was being held in an embassy. By this time, Cale had allied herself with some of Wonder Woman’s deadliest foes like Doctor Psycho. Dr. Psycho used is manipulative skills to draw the crowds into an uproar thus creating a riot outside the embassy. Eventually, Dr. Psycho captures Cale by binding, gagging, and locking her in a closet. Dr. Psycho then took this opportunity to impersonate Dr. Cale but this only lasted for a short while. Dr. Psycho was defeated and Dr. Cale was rescued by none other than Wonder Woman. Unfortunately, this does not change Cale’s perception of Wonder Woman since Diana’s influence has touched Dr. Anderson which Cale finds infuriating. Dr. Cale is later coerced by Circe into becoming the legal guardian of Circe's daughter Lyta as a way of removing Lyta from Themyscira, the Amazon Island in exchange for Circe’s involvement in Cale’s revenge plot against Wonder Woman. Circe and Cale work together in upgrading Silver Swan’s (Vanessa Kapatelis) weaponry after purchasing Swan from Sebastian Ballesteros. Dr. Cale also helped Circe with resurrecting Medusa in order to unleash the gorgon on "man's world." However, this arrangement between these two witches is dissolved when Ares arrives and kidnaps Lyta from the island which angers Circe. Circe abandons Cale’s scheme until Cale manages to return Lyta to her mother with Wonder Woman’s help. When Wonder Woman killed Maxwell Lord for murdering Ted Kord, Dr. Cale was momentarily satisfied by the media’s scrutiny towards the Amazon Princess until she was kidnapped by Chang Tzu aka Egg Fu. During Week 26 of 52, Dr. Cale appears alongside other abducted scientists on Oolong Island. She was the only female among the unscrupulous group of mad scientists. Eventually, Cale suffers from a mental breakdown after releasing Egg Fu’s pet project from Apokolips: the Four Horsemen. Sobek, who represented the Famine Horseman, devoured Osiris while the other Horsemen defeated the Black Marvel family. In retaliation, Black Adam starts his world-wide crusade for vengeance starting with Oolong Island. Meanwhile, Cale’s mental breakdown causes her feelings to conflict with one another. Will Magnus was the only creditable doctor amongst the other scientists. Magnus’ handsome demeanor drove Cale to seducing Magnus and eventually fall in love with him. When Black Adam arrived on Oolong Island, Adam threatened to kill Magnus first for creating the Horsemen but Cale proclaims that she is to blame. Her attempt to confess and confront Shazam’s fallen hero was ignored as Adam continued to destroy the island. Cale managed to help Magnus as well as the other mad scientists get off the island. Magnus left Cale and Cale formed an independent collective with the remaining scientists called the Science Squad. The collective’s first problem was the return of the Four Horsemen of Apokilips. Feeling responsible, Cale ingests a semi-organic containment unit and uses it to absorb the Horsemen's essence. She later undergoes an operation to remove the unit thereby sending the Horsemen back to Apokolips. Cale then becomes the President of Oolong Island after she had attained sovereignty. With Ira Quimby by her side, Cale also becomes a reluctant ally with the Doom Patrol because she needed the Doom Patrol as the island's pre-emptive strike force in case of an emergency. Eventually, Cale betrays the Doom Patrol when she joins forces with the Front Men who used to work for Thayer Jost when he was possessed by Mr. Somebody. The insanity brought about by the manipulation of Mr. Somebody and the Front Men forces Oolong Island and Cale specifically in the negative eye of the public. Her obscurity in the tabloids have also affected her current positioning and significance in the business world and as such investors have been clamoring about to sell off Cale-Anderson Pharmaceuticals. In an effort to retain relevancy Cale is venturing in new business ventures to renew herself and to build herself above the Woman of Wonder. POWERS AND ABILITIES KNOWN POWERS: None, but she boasts an modestly impressive I.Q. KNOWN ABILITIES: Veronica Cale possesses quite possibly one of the finest minds for someone of her circumstances. From the day she was born, Veronica was able to overcome any obstacle life threw at her and that’s because of the wit and intellect she was somehow bestowed upon her since a young age. She has utilized her quick thinking in the fields of science, technology, business and politics. Veronica has excelled in all fields with her wit and has demolished anyone in her path. Along with her great mind, she also carries the womanly charm of subtle manipulation, a technique that works on both sexes and has for the most part had very successful results. If she isn’t being a snake in someone’s ear, she utilizes her authority and intimidation to get what she wants out of people. While her empire is vast, she primarily has a strong presence in the medical and technological field, as such she is revered as an remarkable expert in her field and has the respond of her colleagues and the public. Her connections in the field also allow her easy access to what is new and unavailable to the public. About all, Veronica is chock full of determination and this makes her extremely resilient to any face that adversary takes on. Whether it be Wonder Woman or another business executive, Veronica has what it takes –the undying desire to at the top at the end of the day. Her desire to be better than Wonder Woman has also made her very conscious of her body image, so in an effort to get what would be the closest thing to an Amazonian body, Veronica has hired the best personal trainers to coach and train her to reach near physical perfection. STRENGTH LEVEL: Veronica has average strength for a woman her height and weight who partakes in moderate exercises. She can lift and carry 50 pounds with some effort. WEAKNESSES: Determination is a double edged blade for Veronica. While it has carried her through every hardship in life, it has also provided her with a plethora of problems that would otherwise have been avoided. Her determination while admirable also borders on obsession, the obsession to be at the top, to be revered and to be recognized. It is easy to drop business partners and get rid of troublesome news reporters, but when you’re trying to level with Wonder Woman you’re in a whole other playing field. Even though Veronica is trained by the best of the best, she is no physical rival to the Amazonian princess. Her physical abilities are commendable from her fighting capabilities to her actual physique, but just like any other person her body will have its natural limitations. Despite her continuous efforts to uproot the Amazonian’s princess outstanding image, Veronica has found herself on the bad side of the public’s eye. She is so obsessed with being somebody and doing something that will outshine Wonder Woman that she has went as far as almost destroying the whole world and potentially bringing death to herself. She won’t admit to this fault, but it’s her life passion Veronica has wanted nothing more in life than to be without a doubt successful. PARAPHERNALIA Veronica Cale has amassed an impressive fortune that allows her access to upscale cars and other transport vehicles. She is also able to obtain military grade weapons through her connections and through her various networks with scientists she can obtain high tech equipment and weapons at the drop of a dime. subject examined by Doctor Cyber | [atrb=border,0,true][atrb=cellpadding,0,true][atrb=valign,top][atrb=cellspacing,0,true][atrb=style, width: 40px;] V E R O N I C A C A L E |
