The backhand sent her reeling.
"You stupid, worthless bitch!" Ricky yelled at her. "You've been working since nine and this is all you make?" He threw the wad of twenties at her and the teen cringed in terror. If she wasn't so afraid for her life, she might have noted with humor that Ricky's rash actions now forced him to pick up the bills from the dirty alley floor. Ricky was like that- there was no telling what he would do when his temper made him roused, and that was the scariest thing about him.
"I take you in, give you clothes, shelter, food- and this is how you repay me, Mia? You didn't even break five hundred!"
Mia lowered her eyes and waited for the next blow and volley of insults. This was the story of her life- disappointing people ang getting hurt because of it.
"How does a hot little thing like you not make a grand easily come collection time? If you fall short on me, I don't see why I should help you get a fix."
Her eyes widened. She had thought she was just going to be beaten and maybe raped, which was bad enough. "No, please," she whined, "I need a hit bad, Ricky!"
Her answer was another fist to the face and him pushing her up against the grimey alley. He ripped off her short top and her bra, his bad breath making her turn her face aside. "I'm going to give you a little extra practice on being a good whore, since you clearly need it."
"You want to do it here?" Mia asked, her voice rising in alarm.
He sneered. "Half of the city has already seen your assets...now you're getting shy?" She didn't respond. The best thing she could do was try and endure Ricky's fun. She had long ago given up the notion of a white knight coming to save her from her life.

Roy wasn't pleased with the outcome of what was going on. The young woman's voice had drawn his attention. As he crouched on the roof of the building, peering into the alley way. His eyes narrowed and he took a small breath to try and hold his temper. He wasn't about to let this go on, not ever. He had to hold his temper at not act over react. The back hand that sent the young girl the floor had him standing up, arrow ready to fire, but he waited a moment.
The man hit her again and he was already moving. He leapt from the roof top, landing lightly on his feet in the shadows of the alleyway. He moved his steps light as the man shove the woman against the wall and ripped her top. "Let her go scum bag!" he hissed his hand reaching to curl around the man by the back of his shirt and pull him roughly from his victim. His arrow was easily across his back and he was ready to bring his left fist into the man's face. He didn't hold back and let his fist fly.
"You've got a lot of nerve, hitting a woman!" he growled jerking his arm and throwing the man towards the other side of the alley way and positioning himself between Mia and the man who could only been her pimp and her drug dealer. He shot the girl a look, as he pulled his bow and aimed it at the man.
"Stay behind me we'll talk when I finish with him." he told her, his gaze not leaving he man for long, people like this were dangerous to underestimate, not that he was worried. Roy could handle the man, but he didn't want this young girl to be hurt anymore then she already was.

She heard an indignant shout and looked around to see a masked man dressed in red heading toward Ricky. "No, wait!" she said. It wasn't that she wanted to protect Ricky, but the teen figured Ricky would kill this wannabe vigilante. He was armed only with a bow, for crying out loud. What use was a bow in a neighborhood where every other person owned a gun?
She was puzzled by him drawing the bow at such close range. Why not just try for another few punches? The masked man had the advantage of surprise- at least until Ricky shook off the effects of that first punch.
She didn't want to see Ricky kill this guy, and Ricky would take out his anger on her. She wasn't willing to risk the masked man she'd just met disapppointing her, so she ran. Where, she knew not- she was fleeing the closest thing to a home that she had.

Roy cursed and his eyes narrowing as the girl did the one thing he didn't want. She ran, ran from him out into the busy streets of the city. She was going to get herself killed, running blindly like that. The much fear and desperation made people do stupid things, women especially, especially those addicted to drugs and facing a beating.
He'd seen far to many women beaten and far too many took that and other things for a fix. His attention was solely on the man in front of him and it infuriated him that this man had laid his hands on the young girl. And he would pay, later he didn't have time to deal with him, he had to catch her.
Bow string pulled back and the blunt arrow head pointed at the older man's chest. He let the arrow fly, watching as it hit the man in the chest and the edges went outward, in a net as it encased his arms holding them down to his side as the sharp claw like ends dig into the brick wall trapping the man there, as his body had been knocked off his feet with the close range attack. Roy walked over to the man his knuckles jutting the man under the chin roughly. "I'll be back to deal with you, don't go anywhere." the unspoken threat hidden in his words.
Roy turned his back on the man and took off at a run out of the alley, his head twisting to try and catch sight of the girl. Damn, she's fast.[/color]
He caught sight of her, well not her it was the parting of the thick crowd, they way they spilled to the side to allow someone he couldn't see over their own height from his vantage point. He moved his long legs striding at a run through the crowd, they were more willing to part out of the Hero Red Arrow's way.

Mia knew she shouldn't be running...Ricky would kill her for this. Then again, he may kill her just because the guy dressed in red pissed him off- it was hard to say. Maybe her odds were 50/50, and maybe she was going to die no matter what.
Ah, what the hell, then.
She'd always been fast, even while eating a crappy diet and getting high as a kite. That was part of how she'd earned the nickname Speedy- the other part was due to her familiarity with the city layout. Some people panicked when they ran- but Mia had quickly figured out that was a good way to end up dead or in a holding cell somewhere.
Mia almost laughed when she looked both ways before crossing the street. Why did she bother? There was no way things could turn out okay for her after this. She may as well try to get hit by a car and spare herself some pain at Ricky's hands.
Yet she kept running. She was unaware that Red Arrow was quickly closing in on her.
(OOC: feel free to tackle her or whatever)

Red Arrow lengthened his stride and ran at a quicker speed, his feet arching to run on the tips of his feet. He was nearly there just a few more feet and he'd be able to catch her. By now most of the people were well aware of what was going on and who his target was and were more then willing to get out of the way.
As he neared her he reached out his hand, his fingers curling around her arm, as he gave a sharp pull and his other arm curled around her shoulder and his body slowed and he lifted the shorter girl from the ground. His chest rising and falling in rapid breaths as his breath circled along her neck as his breathless voice tickled her ear. "I told you not to run Mia, just relax. Let me help you,"
He knew this was dangerous but he needed her to consider what options she could have besides the life she was living right now. "I have an offer for you Speedy and a couch if you want to take the offer," he said gently. As he gently allowed her feet to touch the ground and her to turn and face him, but his hand curled in a surprisingly gentle grip as he squeezed her fingers, his blue eyes hopefully behind his mask covered eyes.

Mia gave a startled yell and flailed as someone grabbed onto her from behind, lifting her off the ground. She snapped her neck around, somewhat surprised to see that her captor was the red guy and not Ricky or one of his goons. "S-sorry," she stammered. She guessed she hadn't been giving the guy enough credit earlier if he was still alive.
"What happened to Ricky?" she asked. She was unsure if she would care if he was still alive- she knew he had treated her like crap, but he was the closest thing she had to a father. What she really wanted to know was if she needed to worry about Ricky coming back for her anytime soon.
"Help me with what?" she asked. She nodded quickly at the offer of a place to crash, then began to look suspicious. "I don't have any money," she said warily. "How can I pay you?"
Now that her moment of panic was over, the teen realized she was half-naked. She wasn't exactly feeling humiliated by the realization, but she realized she was drawing stares. She crossed her arms over her breasts. "Um..." she said looking down.

Roy shrugged his shoulders and slowly released her hand, as he pulled from his pack a shawl like coat, with a hood, it was red and matched his uniform. He held it out to her and politely turned his head to the right to give her some privacy, but he didn't get out of her quick vicinity. He flexed his fingers, before running his hands through his red hair.
"He won't be bothering you, trust me. Not if he values his life." he told her, the edge in his voice when he said that was definite. If the man didn't do as he said, he'd regret it. He looked back at her once she was dressed. "Help you out of this life, you can do so much better Mia, is this really the life you want?" he countered with a question as he shrugged off her not having any money. "I don't want your money, l'm giving you a chance to be better then the person you are now, are you happy with who stares back at you in the mirror?" he asked her.
His hand landed on her shoulder and her steered her towards the another alley way, but he motioned for the room, via the fire escape. "Let's talk, up top. Too many ears around here," he said it more to himself though then to her. Just a feeling, but one he paid attention too.

Being a prostitute, Mia wasn't shy about her body, but nothing drew police attention like a half-naked girl in the middle of the street. Red seemed to confuse her practical concerns with an attempt at modesty, however, and she smirked when he turned his back. She could try and run again, but Red here seemed to be her best bet for a place to crash at the moment.
Red seemed to genuinely hate Ricky, but it appeared he had left the pimp alive. She was worried about that, but at this point she had no choice really besides throwing in with Red.
She jerked her head away as he continued to talk however- hurt and angry from his words. "Hey, Red, I live on these streets. You don't. Don't judge me. I'm grateful for somewhere to stay, but don't try to change me or make me into your pet project. Hell, mister, I don't even own a f&@kin' mirror." Still, she followed him up the fire escape. If Red's worse fault was that he thought it was his job to save her from herself, well, she supposed she could live with that.

Roy clenched his jaw not sure what he'd be doing about the attitude. Ollie was far more suited to handle it, somehow he put up with his attitude when he'd first taken up the mantle as Speedy, first started to join the caped crusade and fight in a costume against crime. He let out a slow breath, wondering what he'd need to do about this situation.
He didn't normal get involved, well he did but it wasn't as though he would out of his way to offer anyone a place to crash, why did he care, what did it matter that he could see a little bit of himself in the girl next to him? It shouldn't but it did, he'd allowed himself to get involved and now he was going to pay for it one way or another.
He ran his hand through his hair and looked at her. "What do you want to do with your life?" he questioned as he gazed at her watching her facial expression her actions as he asked her this question, he wanted to know, it would help him know if he was going to be dealing with a life time druggie or something that wanted to do more, to be more then who they are now. He used to be where she was, but he came out on top and now look where he was, at what he'd accomplished, she could do the same, all it took was the desire to be better.
