It has been suggested this is distinctly related to some underlying psychological issues that Gem has, and could be some form of obsessive compulsive disorder for her - or some intense stylistic choice on her behalf. Gem also has a tendency to obtain expensive brand-name sports clothing and shear the labels off. She also has a tribal tattoo that moves up from the lower section of her bicep and up across her shoulder-blade, in a distinct dark red that, surprisingly, does not match her clothing. BEHAVIOR PROFILE[/style][STYLE= margin: 0px 10px 0px 10px; border: 2px solid #191919; padding: 2px; font-family: verdana; height: 125px; overflow: auto; font-size: 11px; color: #000000; text-align: justify; background-color: #ffffff; opacity: 0.8] Gem Antonelli is perhaps not the first person you'd expect to have either A - superpowers, or B - a distinctly vicious streak to her, but she has both. On the surface, she is little more than an average tomboy, but even her surface appearance suggests a melting pot of mental problems and issues; The surface suggests she is the stereotypical teenager of today - one who knows how to use her mouth - and use it well - and who thinks she knows exactly how the world works. She is, or was, a model student, but like nearly anyone who would, given the chance, she has abandoned that in favour of her current form of employment; She feels she is distinctly anti-authoritarian, and often railed against her parents and took part in several marches, thinking she's in the know about politics and the like, but all of her information comes from incredibly biased and inaccurate sources; Michael Moore films, Rage Against the Machine albums... She's the kind of girl who defiantly shears off the labels from her designer sports gear thinking it's cool and rebellious and kind-of punk. In retrospect, she calls it an 'armchair rebellion', on her behalf - given it took very little thought for her and was easy to use to state how she felt without thinking in through. In that sense, she felt she was something of a sheep. To some degree, this proves true even though she has now taken up work willingly with N.O.W.H.E.R.E. Despite the fact she was put through Hell by them in the Culling, she has seen the benefits of working for the group, and has taken on a new sense of aspiration, to succeed. Whilst often rather placid and easygoing, Gem is selfish, and has learned to put herself ahead. She's not above using her powers to get what she wants, or set people up; On several occasions, she has thrown her fellow workers into the firing line to avoid discipline herself. In this sense, she's loyal, certainly, but loyal to herself, and to Harvest, and perhaps her newest team leader. She's certainly not averse to throwing people under a bus to maintain her position, but finds it at least slightly unusual that her attitude seems to be encouraged; At the same time, she's not surprised; N.O.W.H.E.R.E. is, in her words, 'the kind of place that basically sacrifices about a hundred people to gain one meter of land'. That's sort of a butchered World War One analogy, but she views it as being absolutely true. Still, she's not complaining. N.O.W.H.E.R.E. has given her something of a lifestyle she's happy with. Alarmingly, Gem hasn't once questioned the status of her parents since her initial abduction. This isn't to say she loathes her parents, or that she doesn't particularly miss them, but she avoids any opportunity to bring them up or even look them up using N.O.W.H.E.R.E.'s resources. It could potentially be down to her new found abilities, but Gem usually seems fairly distant from others, and her lack of desire to seek out her parents again could be down to this; If only initially, she seems to judge people by their sense of willpower. If she considers them weak, she has no hesitation throwing them under the aforementioned bus. If she considers them strong, then she considers it easier to stay on their good side rather than potentially aggravate them - and aside from the banter they share, this is often the attitude she employs with Rose Wilson, her new team leader; She projects it as a distinct mixture of meekness, friendliness and respect - and actually has something resembling all three when it comes to the older woman - but Gem instinctively knows that Wilson is definitely not someone to mess with. In this sense, there is something unusually Machiavellian for an eighteen year old woman going on with Gem. She's certainly not an incredible plotter, but she at least seems to have a good sense, again, of how to get by; Who to throw under a bus, who to befriend, who to keep an eye on, and who to suck up to as much as possible. It doesn't mean she's incapable of genuinely making friends with someone, but the circumstances that have led to her current situation have made it rather difficult for her to trust others. Being rather underhanded and careful in this sense, Gem nonetheless displays one of the distinct signs of her personality type in that she is very, very cynical at times. It's usually present in her banter. As you can tell, this means there is some distinct contrasts in Gem. She generally lacks faith in humanity and the like following her own abduction and her own willingness to brutally slaughter others to stay alive rather than die a pacifist, but even before this, showed a general tendency to play up to these negative aspects herself; Her first act with her newfound powers was to make a boy jump off the highest section of a stairwell in school; Her reasoning is that it was either him or her. Again, Gem is a melting pot of problems, and whilst operating in a normal, healthy manner a majority of the time, occasionally displays contradictory attitudes or actions that differ from what she says she's going to do. This alarmingly suggests some manner of schizophrenia or multiple personalities that NOWHERE themselves may have actually caused in addition to the treatments and processes Gem underwent before her birth; This manifests itself rarely, but seems to have been exacerbated by her taking part in the Culling. If cornered or put into a fight, Gem can manifest something of a vicious streak that will see her aggressively assault a foe until they stop or she is stopped. She is not particularly bloodthirsty, but it is something of a distinct mean streak that appears, again suggesting the ongoing maintenance of that 'them or me' attitude that first appeared when she made the boy in school jump. As a side note, N.O.W.H.E.R.E. have diagnosed this ongoing personality problem, and have responded with a course of medication that seems to curb her more aggressive moments, and are maintaining something of a close watch on the things medication can't control. [/style][STYLE=color: #191919; font-size: 10px; margin-top: 10px; margin-left: 10px;]DOCUMENTED HISTORY[/style][STYLE= margin: 0px 10px 0px 10px; border: 2px solid #191919; padding: 2px; font-family: verdana; height: 125px; overflow: auto; font-size: 11px; color: #000000; text-align: justify; background-color: #ffffff; opacity: 0.8] Gem was born to a relatively simple life in Los Angeles - or so it seemed. Whilst she seemed a perfectly average little girl, she was partly the result of a family greatly embedded in the US military-industrial complex, and partly the result of extensive genetic meddling. Her immediate family all had careers in intelligence or the military, and her parents in particular were members of a breakaway faction from the CIA called International Operations, or I.O. for short, whose focus was the development of metahumans that could later be used in the government's service. Her mother, upon learning of her pregnancy, volunteered herself for the group's newer 'Gen-Active' experiments, and so, as she grew, Gem was exposed to all manner of treatments and procedures. Upon birth, she and her family were installed in a Los Angeles home on I.O.'s dime, where Gem could be observed in a 'natural environment. As it was, her life was fairly typical. Gem was never particularly the kind of girl who was into pink and dolls and ponies, but she had things she distinctly liked. She admired superheroes, and perhaps desired that kind of lifestyle so she could escape the more mundane trappings she was growing up in; Doctors diagnosed her early on with ADHD - perhaps an unintended side-effect of the treatments she had been put through before birth, but in general, she was prone to flights of fancy and drifting off into her own little world. When she put her mind to it, however, her parents found that she was something of a model student, although there were no real visible effects or signs of the treatment she had been given. As such, Gem remained blissfully unaware of her parents and their secret lives, and for their part, their main concern was that she occasionally displayed something close to mental issues and problems, which intensified as she moved through adolescence. That all changed when she turned seventeen, however; It had been a fairly average day; Study hall in the morning, Math and French in the afternoon. Gem's headaches - a common thing by this point - were more severe than usual; She got into an argument with a boy, which intensified until the point that something in her head just clicked. Suddenly, he was doing everything she did; At first, Gem thought he was making fun of her, but she immediately understood the second she managed to walk him to a flight of stairs and take a swan dive off the railing. She was partly horrified, but largely amazed. Sneaking out amidst the chaos that ensued as an ambulance was called in, Gem began her usual run home, only to suddenly be wrenched into an alleyway and knocked out. Turns out she was of interest to more than just I.O. When she woke, she was basically flung straight into a contest known as the Culling. Rationalising it and branding it as 'the Hunger Games-lite' in her head, she also mentally told herself it was either her or them. Barely able to grasp her abilities, she soon underwent what could only be called a trial by fire; Tapping into the same kinds of feelings she'd had when she'd caused the boy she was arguing with to jump from the highest stairwell in the school, Gem quickly developed a strategy of controlling and dominating those she came across, before battering some of them to death, or at the very least, disabling them. It worked out just dandy, for the most part, with Gem managing to stay out of trouble, until she was almost throttled by another meta sneaking up on her as she finished another one off. In what she felt was her first monstrous moment as a metahuman, Gem proceeded to kill the next meta who happened to have a good enough conscience to save her. 'Every man for himself' was the maxim she quickly began using. Eventually, she emerged from the Culling blood-soaked and alone, and was quickly assigned to a group of operatives. Adopting the codename Copycat, Gem adapted to this odd new life rather quickly, even with the machinations of N.O.W.H.E.R.E.'s mysterious Harvest. She feels oddly more satisfied than she has in years - despite the fact that her comfort levels have dropped ever so slightly since being reassigned to Rose Wilson's team.[/style] [STYLE=color: #191919; font-size: 10px; margin-top: 10px; margin-left: 10px;]POWERS AND ABILITIES[/style][STYLE= margin: 0px 10px 0px 10px; border: 2px solid #191919; padding: 2px; font-family: verdana; height: 125px; overflow: auto; font-size: 11px; color: #000000; text-align: justify; background-color: #ffffff; opacity: 0.8] KNOWN POWERS: Gem was genetically modified in her development to be able to possess people later on in life. This ability essentially allows her to control every function of a person's body. Whilst she is relatively experienced with this ability - which simply requires her to mentally target and think about the victim she wishes to possess - there are a distinct number of limitations in place. Primarily, they must be in her line of sight, or Gem must be distinctly aware of the person in her vicinity and know who they are to possess them. Even with line of sight, there is a distinct range of about twenty-five meters or so, and beyond that range, she cannot possess them. There is also a time limit in place of around fifteen minutes, tops, in which she can possess a person, before she is forcefully evicted from their body. There are also distinct elements of willpower in place - if the person she attempts to possess has a stronger will than she, then they may be able to force her out prematurely or block her from possessing them entirely. Her possession ability is also distinctly unusual in that Gem actively has to do the things she wants the possessed to do; If she wants them to move, she actively has to follow at a pace behind them; the same applies for running. If she expects to use someone to scout ahead, she actively has to squint and/or simulate using binoculars and the like. If she possesses an athlete, then that means she would have to at least attempt performing any moves she wants them to make herself. This also extends into powers; If she possesses someone else with natural abilities, then she does gain an instinctive understanding of how their abilities work, but none of the experience - she also has to move or gesture in the same fashion that they do in order to make the powers work. KNOWN ABILITIES:
STRENGTH LEVEL: Thanks to training at the insistence of her team leader following her victory in the Culling, Gem has recently enhanced her natural strength to be slightly above average for someone of her height and build, and maintains it via exercise on a regular basis. WEAKNESSES:

[STYLE=color: #191919; font-size: 10px; margin-top: 10px; margin-left: 10px;]PARAPHERNALIA[/style][STYLE= margin: 0px 10px 0px 10px; border: 2px solid #191919; padding: 2px; font-family: verdana; height: 125px; overflow: auto; font-size: 11px; color: #000000; text-align: justify; background-color: #ffffff; opacity: 0.8] EQUIPMENT:
- Gem has an all-red outfit largely comprised of what one might call 'street-gear'. It is all brand-new clothing, like say, Nike or Adidas or Puma with the labels sheared off. Notably, all the garments she wears are one of three distinct shades of red, one of which matches her hair.
- Gem also wears one of the standard issue communications devices common to N.O.W.H.E.R.E. operatives, enabling her to stay in touch with her team leader and her home base.
TRANSPORTATION:
- Standard issue N.O.W.H.E.R.E. transportation is usually the first port of call for Gem. She used to own a lightly powered moped which she insists she will track down one day, despite it being utterly outclassed by the vehicles N.O.W.H.E.R.E. has on offer.
WEAPONS:
- Gem tends to avoid using weaponry unless she views it as absolutely necessary. In these instances she again relies on the N.O.W.H.E.R.E. stockpiles or the offered equipment for a mission.
[STYLE=color: #191919; font-size: 10px; margin-top: 10px; margin-left: 10px;]EXAMINATION RECORD[/style][STYLE= margin: 0px 10px 0px 10px; border: 2px solid #191919; padding: 2px; font-family: verdana; height: 125px; overflow: auto; font-size: 11px; color: #000000; text-align: justify; background-color: #ffffff; opacity: 0.8]Gem scowled to herself as she defiantly tried to fit one blade of the nail scissors beneath the stitching of the label; Sitting cross-legged on the floor of her quarters in the midst of a new set of clothes - track tops, shorts, leggings, new sneakers, the works, essentially - she was doing her usual thing of stripping them of any and all logos that they might feature. If she was being entirely honest with herself, then she had long since lost track of why she did this, really; Buzzwords like 'individuality' and the like flashed in her head, but Gem knew for a fact that this was about as unique and as groundbreaking as say, visiting the local Pizza Hut on a Saturday night, or going to the movies with friends. In short? It really wasn't unique at all. In fact, thinking about it, this was actually something she'd stolen from a website somewhere. It honestly wasn't special or unique in the slightest. All it meant was that she was basically a fashion-hag who was ashamed of the amount of money that had been spent on things she could get at a similar quality for a way, way lower price. It was pathetic.
And yet Gem continued to do it. Working with N.O.W.H.E.R.E. had given her something of an itch that only money could solve. This involved throwing people to the lions, capturing them and basically hurling 99 percent of them to their deaths, and somehow, she was fine with it. Because N.O.W.H.E.R.E. had elevated her up from the common muck. Simple as that. Grinning to herself with satisfaction as she managed to lift away the woven label and reveal the set of stitches beneath it, the scissors were carefully inserted and snipped once, twice, thrice, taking out three slim threads each time, before the label - the distinct cat of her particular brand, flopped to the floor. Still satisfied, Gem tugged the loose thread out, and tossed the shorts aside into a pile alongside the clothing she'd already worked on. Honestly though; She'd been quizzed before as to whether she missed her parents. Whether she missed what the 'therapist' had called 'the real world'.
She didn't get it. If that out there, living some bland life in a miserable, ramshackle home with a complaining father and a whining mother desperate for 'girl time' was the 'real world', and this was, in fact, some Matrix-style delusion? She'd take this any time. Who wanted to be mundane? To be dull? She had powers. She had everything N.O.W.H.E.R.E. had to offer. Who would want to go back to that? Gem snorted to herself, the noise clearly derisive; No teenager in her shoes would do any different, even if they denied it. She was certain of that. Certain. Absolutely certain. Her eyes narrowed slightly. She knew she was right. It was.. It was like that thing from Scarface - 'the world is yours' - and another snort emerged as she remembered her father prattling on at her for so long because she'd watched that and not even been old enough.
Absolutely certain. She was. So certain. Gem blinked, screwing her face up for a moment, as if something had stung her. She sniffed. Grabbed another pair of the designer sports shorts. And carried on.
