Gripping the phone tightly, Terra’s hands shook as she dialled the number she knew off by heart, her eyes darting around the dark trees looking for any signs of movement. For several rings nobody answered until suddenly a familiar voice sounded on the other end and Terra gasped in relief. “G…Gar you’ve got to help me…she’s going to kill me…I can barely slow her down…” she was so badly out of breath, her voice such a panicked whisper that she was difficult to hear, but nonetheless she doubted that the person on the other end wasn’t riveted to what she was saying. “I’m…Merced Park…hurry…please!” Something brushed against leaves and Terra dropped the phone mid call and again started to run, desperately trying to escape from her attacker.
Moments later Gemini stepped out of the treeline, looked down at the phone and crushed it under her foot, she could clearly see Terra running through the trees with night vision she’d copied from an owl, but for the moment she made no move to pursue. The girl wasn’t escaping no matter how fast she ran, but Gemini didn’t want to corner Terra before her star ‘guest’ arrived, that would ruin the plan. As the girl made it to the shoreline of the lake and was forced to start running around its edge, Gemini finally resumed her pursuit, her legs elongating in giant stretchy footsteps to catch up with her fleeing prey.
At least that was what it would look like; catching the running Terra was not difficult when she was simply another part of her body. Normally Gemini avoided dividing her mass, not liking the multiplicity of senses that came with taking more than one shape, but for Garfield Logan any discomfort for her was more than compensated for. Her wide frightened eyes took in the park as she ran as fast as a human body the size of Terra’s allowed, whilst her other set of eyes fixed on her own fleeing back. It was an odd sensation, but with any luck her trick would fool Beast Boy completely. She’d even spied on the rock mover to make sure her Terra form had the right perfume and shower products and then lured the girl out with a fake message. With her out of the way, Gemini had been free to proceed with her plan.
Gasping in fear, ‘Terra’ fell over a tree branch and pulled herself up again, narrowly avoiding the enlarged hand which stretched almost a hundred metres to grab her. If she had to Gemini would keep this up all night, chasing herself repeatedly around the lake’s edge until Changeling arrived to ‘save the day’.
